Donne viste da uomini. L’inchiesta Doxa-Shell in Italia (1973)

    No full text
This research examines significant issues surrounding the representation of the “discovery” of female sexuality as a public debate topic in Italy during the early 1970s. It analyzes a survey conducted in 1973 by the Doxa-Shell Institute, which explored the habits, choices, and “sexual customs” of women across the country. The goal is to illustrate that, despite the media’s increasing focus on women as news subjects and the survey’s potential to give a voice to participants, the interpretation of the collected data failed to fully capture the extent of the cultural and social changes affecting women’s bodies during this pivotal period in Italian history. This research examines significant issues surrounding the representation of the “discovery” of female sexuality as a public debate topic in Italy during the early 1970s. “Al di là del guado”. Europeismo, socialdemocrazia e cultura politica tra Pci e Pds

The article reconstructs the transition of the Italian Communist Party (Pci) towards a proEuropean political culture and adherence to democratic socialism between 1986 and 1992. Through the analysis of documents from various archival collections, together with international relations material and political elaborations, it examines the stages that led the Pci – and subsequently the Democratic Party of the Left (Pds) – to redefine its position within the European context, against the background of the end of the Cold War, the crisis of actually existing socialism, and the transformation of Western social democracies. The article reconstructs the transition of the Italian Communist Party (Pci) towards a proEuropean political culture and adherence to democratic socialism between 1986 and 1992. Through the reading, analysis and comparison of some of the major opinion polls conducted in the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic between the late 1950s and early 1970s, this article investigates the nature and extent of the changes taking place in the family, gender roles and the status of women in the two Germanys. The focus is not only on the results and responses given, but also on the nature of the questions asked, in order to understand the orientation and aims of those who conducted the surveys. The comparison between the surveys on either side of the Wall allows us to identify changes and continuities both in the status of women and in the common perception of it.Through the reading, analysis and comparison of some of the major opinion polls conducted in the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic between the late 1950s and early 1970s, this article investigates the nature and extent of the changes taking place in the family, gender roles and the status of women in the two Germanys. Fascism seized power in a traumatic way and at the end of a sequence of events that took place outside the law and constitutional practice. However, the reference to the notion of revolution to describe this first phase of Italian twentieth-century political history is controversial and, even in the culture and scientific literature of the 1920s and 1930s, the word revolution is used to indicate a series of transformative actions that unfold over time rather than a single action that, however incisive, may have caused a fracture in the nation’s constitutional continuity. Therefore, it is through an articulated and tight path of reforms that the legal structures of the Italian State are modified. These reforms generated a reshaping of the relations between legislative and executive power, the loosen- ing of the dependency ties between the executive power and the monarchy, they concerned the cor- porate organisation of the State, drastically changed the forms of composition of parliamentary representation, and assigned significant powers of coordination and setting political direction to the Prime Minister. In other words, they changed the institutional face of Italy, transforming it from a liberal and pluralist monarchy into an oppressive and centralising dictatorship. To define the new state of decision-making structures and the drastic weakening of the principle of the separation of powers, Fascist publicists used the notion of regime, especially from the late 1920s onwards. This term represents the new threshold of the national juridical conscience and on it flourishes a dense scientific production aimed at extrapolating its semantic density and at catching, through the various rhetorical contexts in which it is mainly used, as many typical facets of the political season that it intends to frame.

The essay focuses on the ‘political-constitutional discourse’ of Francesco Saverio Nitti (1868- 1953), who has lucidly grasped some problematic issues of democratic societies, current trends and possible crises. For Nitti the idea of a stable and definitive political constitution is an illusion. The political forms theorized by political scientists and constitutionalists exist in reality in a very approximate way. The democracy, with its assumption of freedom, is a form that cannot be foreseen or defined and is understood as a freely expressed majority government (government with the consent of the people). What emerges from the analysis of the statesman’s reflection is a peculiar general doctrine of the state and society. In this dimension, social solidarity is considered the regulating principle of the social constitution, the ideal with which the behaviour of individuals and nations must conform.
