Rome at the dawn of the Renaissance represents a crucial setting to understand not only the trajectory of Gutierre González but also the influences he received. These influences were significantly reflected in the proposed project for the founding of a brotherhood in Jaén, which included teaching Christian doctrine to children and caring for young maidens.
The role emotions play in loyalty and WOM intention in a Smart Tourism Destination Management
This study applies an extension of the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) by including moral regulation and
negative and positive emotions to determine the attitudinal and emotional factors that influence tourist loyalty
and word-of-mouth. Structural equation modeling was applied to a sample of 303 face-to-face interviews with
tourists visiting the smart tourism destination of C´aceres, a city that has also been declared a World Heritage site.
The results indicate that the original components of the TPB, moral norms and positive and negative emotions
significantly impact loyalty and intention to recommend the smart destination. Additionally, the proportion of
variance explained shows that including moral norms and positive and negative emotions significantly improve
the explanatory power of the original model. The joint communication of information in local campaigns and
through social networks offering memorable experiences is the main strategy destination managers should follow
in order to promote socially and environmentally responsible attitudes, positive emotions, and a greater intention
This publication has been made possible thanks to funding granted by the Consejería de Economía, Ciencia and Agenda Digital de la Junta de Extremadura and by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union through the reference grant GR21161 and the University of Extremadura through the Initiation Plan for Research, Technological Development and Innovation 2022.peerReviewe

Anti-biofilm perspectives of propolis against staphylococcus epidermidis infections
Staphylococcus epidermis has emerged as the main causative agent of medical device-related infections. Their major pathogenicity factor lies in its ability to adhere to surfaces and proliferate into biofilms, which increase their resistance to antibiotics. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the use and the mechanism of action of an ethanolic extract of Spanish propolis (EESP) as a potential alternative for preventing biofilm-related infections caused by S. epidermidis. The chemical composition of propolis is reported and its antibacterial activity against several strains of S. epidermidis with different biofilm-forming capacities evaluated. The influence of sub-inhibitory concentrations (sub-MICs) of EESP on their growth, physicochemical surface properties, adherence, and biofilm formation were studied. EESP interferes with planktonic cells, homogenizing their physicochemical surface properties and introducing a significant delay in their growth. The adherence and biofilms at the EESP concentrations investigated decreased up to 90.5% among the strains. Microscopic analysis indicated that the planktonic cells that survived the treatment were the ones that adhere and proliferate on the surfaces. The results obtained suggest that the EESP has a high potential to be used as an inhibitor of both the adhesion and biofilm formation of S. epidermidis. The publication is part of Project PID2022-140422OB-I00, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/ 501100011033/FEDER, EU.peerReviewe

STIM1 nuclear function: a role in DNA damage response
This Doctoral Thesis has focused on the study of an additional and non-canonical function for the Ca2+ sensor STIM1, specifically, the study of its nuclear function. To establish this objective, we rely on the results of the STIM1 interactome, in which we observed interaction with numerous nucleo-cytoplasmic transport proteins, as well as proteins of the FA/BRCA pathway, involved in DNA damage repair. In this work we have shown that STIM1 presents a nuclear localization sequence that allows it to be transported to the nucleus and that this translocation is increased after exposure to mitomycin-C (MMC), a DNA interstrand crosslinking agent. In addition, it has been shown that STIM1-deficient cells show DNA damage, increased sensitivity to MMC and cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase. Likewise, it is shown that the absence of STIM1 leads to replicative stress, which is responsible for endogenous DNA damage. Additionally, in this study we have shown that STIM1 interacts with the nuclear chromatin and that both the transport of STIM1 to the nucleus and its interaction with chromatin are necessary to prevent DNA damage. Finally, this work shows that STIM1 normalizes nuclear FANCD2 protein levels, so that the absence of STIM1 is associated with lower levels of nuclear FANCD2, which would explain the higher sensitivity of STIM1-KO cells to MMC.My incorporation to the research group "Cell Signaling in Clinical Pathologies" ("Sefializaci6n Celular en Patologfas Clfnicas") (Code: BBB010) and the research conducted in the Doctoral Thesis have been supported by:

The Environmental Corporate Social Responsibility (ECSR) is an important management tool that has been gaining prominence by allowing greater achievements and benefits. The general objective of this study was to analyze ECSR in the internal sphere of the company from the employee's perception, because the employees' vision towards ECSR remains largely unknown.
The formulation of the hypotheses of our research, proposed to contrast the relationship that the ECSR can achieve with elements, such as image and perceived reputation and its relationship with the identification, trust and commitment of the employee towards the company where they work. The empirical study was carried out with a sample of five textile industries in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, through surveys and information has been collected from 997 employees. The method used to validate the model was based on the technique of Partial Least Squares (PLS).
The results achieved can demonstrate that the image and corporate reputation are very influential factors in the identification of the employees, who want to feel like they belong to a prestigious company that is concerned about environmental issues. This way, both the identification of the employee with their companies as the trust it places in it has a positive impact on the commitment it establishes with the entity. It is evident that, among the three fundamental elements in building relationships (identification, trust and commitment), it is the latter that acts directly in the company's processes and objectives
A multi-criteria decision support system to evaluate the effectiveness of training courses on citizens’ employability
This study examines the impact of lifelong learning on the professional lives of employed and unemployed individuals. Lifelong learning is a crucial factor in securing employment or enhancing one’s existing career prospects. To achieve this objective, this study proposes the implementation of a multi-criteria decision support system for the evaluation of training courses in accordance with their capacity to enhance the employability of the students. The methodology is delineated in four stages. Firstly, a ‘working life curve’ was defined to provide a quantitative description of an individual’s working life. Secondly, an analysis based on K-medoids clustering defined a control group for each individual for comparison. Thirdly, the performance of a course according to each of the four predefined criteria was calculated using a t-test to determine the mean performance value of those who took the course. Ultimately, the unweighted TOPSIS method was used to evaluate the efficacy of the various training courses in relation to the four criteria. This approach effectively addresses the challenge of using extensive datasets within a system while facilitating the application of a multi-criteria unweighted TOPSIS method. The results of the multi-criteria TOPSIS method indicated that training courses related to the professional fields of administration and management, hostel and tourism and community and sociocultural services have positive impact on employability and improving the working conditions of citizens. However, courses that demonstrate the greatest effectiveness in ranking are the least demanded by citizens. The results will help policymakers evaluate the effectiveness of each training course offered by the regional government. This work was developed with the support of Grant PID2021-127412OB-I00, and Grant CPP2021-008491, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and “European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR”.peerReviewe
Respectful children’s shoes: a systematic review
Background: Child footwear, both in pathologies and in normal situations, can affect the foot in various ways depending on its characteristics. Below, some features of child footwear are described, and how they can influence the foot, including suitable size, shape and design, flexibility, and transpirable material; inadequate footwear includes situations with flat foot, equine foot, and hammer toes. It is important to highlight that each child is unique and may have different footwear needs. In case of specific pathologies or concerns, it is recommended to consult a specialist in podology or foot medicine for personalized assessment and recommendations. Methods: The present systematic review was conducted in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. Results: Children’s footwear must adapt to all stages of children’s growth, starting from when they begin to walk, to promote the correct evolution of their musculoskeletal system. For up to six months, they do not need to wear shoes; socks and similar clothing are enough to warm your feet like a second skin. The flexibility of respectful footwear is essential between six months and three or four years. From that age onwards, the soles can be somewhat thicker, and the buttress can have a certain firmness, but the shoes should remain flexible. Conclusions: Eco-friendly footwear, which typically comes from small businesses and factories, is sometimes described as “ergonomic footwear”. However, there is some reluctance towards this term. When choosing this type of footwear for children, it is important to not just look at the label; rather, one should verify that it meets all the necessary characteristics to be considered respectful.peerReviewe
