In April 2023, a Training Workshop on mixed methods in Health Education and Research was held at the University of Aveiro. In this training, a problem was posed about what plagiarism and/or selfplagiarism is, and we found very few correct answers regarding the definition of these concepts. This led us to question what is really known about this topic and where we can find concrete examples of plagiarism and self-plagiarism that have gone unnoticed in society. To carry out this study, a bibliometric and systematic review of the literature was carried out, between the years 2014 and 2022, in the International databases WOS and SCOPUS with the use of the keywords “Plagiarism”, “Scientific” and “Education”, using VOSViewer Software. As a result of this search, 40 documents with the greatest impact on education were selected, analyzing the content of their summaries and conclusions through CAQDAS NVivo. Among the conclusions obtained, we observe that there is a real need to make known: various recurrent instances of plagiarism and selfplagiarism that occur in academic environments of higher education and analytical models that shed light on the moments prone to these behaviours, offering concrete recommendations to prevent them. his persistence. As a limitation, since this is an exploratory study, the results obtained were not compared with other databases, such as ERIC. Finally, to obtain more significant data in
the future, we intend to expand this research by conducting interviews and focus groups with different students and education professionals, to compare the information compiled with new, broader searches that include other databases. Evaluation of active and reactive manifestations in female padel players. Influence of the playing side
Se hace necesario realizar nuevas investigaciones en donde se contrasten los resultados hallados en esta investigaciónOver the last years padel has experienced an exponential growth in all areas, as can be seen in the significant number of licences, the incorporation of new profes-sional circuits and a significant increase in the number of scientific publications. How-ever, there are still scarce research that analyse in depth the conditional characteris-tics of padel players according to the side of the court which they play on. Several studies have evaluated the explosive strength of the lower body in racket sports, but in padel the existing evidence is scarce, limited and heterogeneous, especially regard-ing the side of play, and particularly in women's competition. In this sense, the aim of this study is focused on evaluating and analysing the manifestations of active and reactive strength of the lower body in women's padel according to the side of play. The squat jump test (SJ) and the countermovement test (CMJ) were used to assess the active and reactive manifestations of lower limb strength, in addition to the power performed. The results obtained showed no significant differences in the height of the SJ and CMJ jumps, neither in the power performed. However, it can be seen that all the physical variables analysed are slightly higher in those players located on the left side of the court. Depending on the side of play, the differences found could be the result of specific chronic muscular adaptations derived from highly specialized training and competition. The results obtained suggested the need to design and carry out differentiated trainings taking according to the side of the game in which the players compete in padel tennis. Further research is needed to contrast the results found in this investigation.
The current competitive systems in soccer are not, in many cases, the ideal ones to achieve an adequate teaching-learning process because they are inadequate to the characteristics and preferences of the children. The objectives of this work are to design and validate a questionnaire, so that it allows, secondly, to know the opinion of a group of parents and coaches about the degree of satisfaction with the current federative rules, those modified in the internal league of values of FC Cartagena and the benefits they consider from the new rules. For this, a questionnaire was designed and validated, by an expert group (16.3 ± 8.74 years of experience), which was administered to 21 coaches (age = 29.9±8.56 years and 6.90±6.73 years of experience) and 57 parents (age = 40.5±10.5 years) from the under 10 (41,65%) and under 12 (58,35%). The results showed that, despite showing general satisfaction with the current rules, they considered the modified regulation better with more appropriate rules for children to achieve improvements in the teaching-learning process and in the promotion of values. The rules of the internal league of values can be used by clubs and federations to implement a competitive system that allows greater personal development, thus allowing a competitive balance by being structured.peerReviewe
Influence of moisture content on some mechanical properties of wheat
The loads generated inside agricultural silos under static and dynamic conditions depend on the mechanical properties of the materials stored inside them. Silo calculation methodologies are based on these mechanical properties. Although it is known that moisture content greatly influences the values reached by these mechanical properties, only a few studies have been conducted to determine them. The present work determines the angle of internal friction, the apparent cohesion, the dilatancy angle and the apparent specific weight of wheat when subjected to different moisture contents. Direct shear and oedometer assay devices were used. In addition, a climatic chamber was used to moisten the wheat samples used in this work. From the different assays conducted, it could be observed that the values of the angle of internal friction, the apparent cohesion and the apparent specific weight were like those found in the literature. However, no values of the dilatancy angle of wheat as influenced by moisture content were previously reported. The values obtained here for this parameter are within the range of those specified for dry wheat samples. Finally, higher apparent specific weight values were observed as moisture content increased up to 13.4%, then decreasing at a moisture content of 15.5%. This was not expected according to the results stated by some authors, although others reported a similar tendency. The values here provided can be used in silo load calculations involving numerical methods for modeling technological processes. This research and APC was funded by the Spanish “Agencia Estatal de Investigación” via the research project “Study of the structural behavior of corrugated wall silos using Discrete Element Models (SILODEM)”, grant number PID2019-107051GB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033.peerReviewe
Reinvigorating aza-Michael reactions under ionic liquid catalysis: a greener approach
Cholinium α-amino carboxylates, which debuted in the ionic liquid arena over a decade ago, exhibit superior stability and suitable physical properties relative to other RTILs. Although synthetic pursuits in such media, leveraging their dual role as solvents and catalysts, have been scarce so far, we herein illustrate their catalytic advantage in aza-Michael reactions in terms of low loading, acceleration and improved yields with respect to conventional conditions and other imidazolium-based ILs. These highly structured salts most likely act through multiple and cooperative non-covalent interactions. These mechanistic features have also been investigated through high-level computational analyses as well.Junta de Extremadura’ and ‘Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional’ (European Regional Development Fund) for financial support (Grants GR21107, IB20026, and IB16167). Quantitative Analysis of the Human Semen Phosphorometabolome by 31P-NMR
Phosphorus-containing metabolites occupy a prominent position in cell pathways. The phosphorometabolomic approach in human sperm samples will deliver valuable information as new male fertility biomarkers could emerge. This study analyzed, by 31P-NMR, seminal plasma and whole semen from asthenozoospermic and normozoospermic samples (71% vs. 27% and 45% vs. 17%, total and progressive sperm motility, respectively), and also ejaculates from healthy donors. At least 16 phosphorus-containing metabolites involved in central energy metabolism and phospholipid, nucleotide, and nicotinamide metabolic pathways were assigned and different abundances between the samples with distinct sperm quality was detected. Specifically, higher levels of phosphocholine, glucose-1-phosphate, and to a lesser degree, acetyl phosphate were found in the asthenozoospermic seminal plasma. Notably, the phosphorometabolites implicated in lipid metabolism were highlighted in the seminal plasma, while those associated with carbohydrate metabolism were more abundant in the spermatozoa. Higher levels of phosphocholine, glucose-1-phosphate, and acetyl phosphate in the seminal plasma with poor quality suggest their crucial role in supporting sperm motility through energy metabolic pathways. In the seminal plasma, phosphorometabolites related to lipid metabolism were prominent; however, spermatozoa metabolism is more dependent on carbohydrate-related energy pathways. Understanding the presence and function of sperm phosphorylated metabolites will enhance our knowledge of the metabolic profile of healthy human sperm, improving assessment and differential diagnosisLos metabolitos que contienen fósforo ocupan un lugar destacado en las vías celulares. This research was funded by the regional Grant from Junta de Extremadura (Spain) IB20154 and GR18094.peerReviewe
Identifying optimal zones for avocado ("Persea americana" Mill) cultivation in Iberian Peninsula: a climate suitability analysis
In recent decades, the cultivation of avocados (Persea americana Mill) has expanded throughout the Iberian Peninsula, with most of the production occurring on the Southern Atlantic and Mediterranean Coast, as well as in the Canary Islands. This expansion is due to high demand and high prices, which have made the crop very attractive. However, climatic suitability criteria have not always been followed, putting sustainability at risk. Avocados originate from tropical and subtropical areas and have very specific climatic requirements that must be met to ensure good production. This study analyzed the key climatic variables, including winter cold damage, pollen viability and flowering and fruit set temperatures. Using daily climate data from 1975 to 2022, advanced spatial analysis techniques were applied to produce suitability maps. The results indicate that the expansion of the crop is possible in certain areas of Southern Andalusia but not in the rest of the peninsula. Variables associated with low temperatures, such as cold damage (temperatures below 0 °C in winter) and conditions unfavorable for fruit set (minimum daily temperatures below 10 °C in spring), have been identified as the most restrictive factors. Specifically, the number of days with minimum temperatures above 10 °C in March and April appears to be the most limiting climatic factor for avocado cultivation in the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Andalusia and the Valencian Community have been identified as the most climatically suitable regions for avocado cultivation, with approximately 1,500,000 hectares recognized as potentially suitable for avocado production. This work provides valuable insights into the potential for sustainable agricultural intensification, the sustainability of agricultural decision-making and resilience to climate change. This research was funded by the Junta de Extremadura and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the GR18088 (Research Group RNM028).peerReviewe
Pyruvate enhances stallion sperm function in high glucose media improving overall metabolic efficiency
If a mechanism of more efficient glycolysis depending on pyruvate is present in stallion spermatozoa, detrimental effects of higher glucose concentrations that are common in current commercial extenders could be counteracted. To test this hypothesis, were incubated in a 67 mM Glucose modified Tyrode’s media in the presence of 1- or 10-mM pyruvate and in the Tyrode’s basal media which contains 5 mM glucose. incubated for 3 h at 37 ◦C in 67 mM Tyrode’s media with 10 mM pyruvate showed increased in comparison with aliquots incubated in Tyrode’s 5 mM glucose and Tyrode’s 67 mM glucose (57.1 ± 3.5 and 58.1 ± 1.9 to 73.0 ± 1.1 %; P < 0.01). Spermatozoa incubated in Tyrode’s with 67 mM glucose 10 mM pyruvate maintained the viability along the 64.03 ± 15.4 vs 61.3 ± 10.2), while spermatozoa incubated in 67 mM Glucose-Tyrode’s a decrease in viability (38.01 ± 11.2, P < 0.01). 40 mM oxamate, an inhibitor of the lactate dehydrogenase LDH, reduced sperm viability (P < 0.05, from 76 ± 5 in 67 mM Glucose/10 mM pyruvate to 68.0 ± 4.3 %, P < 0.05). Apoptotic markers increased in the presence of oxamate. (P < 0.01). UHPLC/MS/MS showed that 10 mM pyruvate pyruvate, lactate, ATP and NAD+ while phosphoenolpyruvate decreased. The that explain the improvement of in presence of 10 mM pyruvate involve the conversion of lactate to pyruvate and increased NAD+ enhancing the efficiency of the glycolysis. The authors received financial support for this study from the Ministerio de Ciencia-European Fund for Regional evelopment (EFRD), Madrid, Spain, grant PID2021-122351OB-I00.
