The proposed methodology takes into account the multiple interactions between different parts (domains) where each one has been solved independently, retaining the full-wave nature, if present, of the independent methods used to solve each domain. It is based on the direct interconnection of: (i) a concave Spherical Port implemented on the current-based method (where a reflector or a scatterer is located) and (ii) a convex Spherical Port defined over the FEM-domain (where the feeder will be located). The methodology is first implemented in a proof-of-concept demonstrator, showing a very good correlation with a full-wave simulation of the complete structure for both return loss and radiated fields.     Predictive health monitoring: Leveraging artificial intelligence for early detection of infectious diseases in nursing home residents through discontinuous vital signs analysis

    This research addresses the problem of detecting acute respiratory, urinary tract, and other infectious diseases in elderly nursing home residents using machine learning algorithms. The study analyzes data extracted from multiple vital signs and other contextual information for diagnostic purposes. The daily data collection process encounters sampling constraints due to weekends, holidays, shift changes, staff turnover, and equipment breakdowns, resulting in numerous nulls, repeated readings, outliers, and meaningless values. The short time series generated also pose a challenge to analysis, preventing the extraction of seasonal information or consistent trends. Blind data collection results in most of the data coming from periods when residents are healthy, resulting in excessively imbalanced data. This study proposes a data cleaning process and then builds a mechanism that reproduces the basal activity of the residents to improve the classification of the disease. The results show that the proposed basal module-assisted machine learning techniques allow anticipating diagnostics 2, 3 or 4 days before doctors decide to start treatment with antibiotics, achieving a performance measured by the area-under-the-curve metric of 0.857. The contributions of this work are: (1) a new data cleaning process; (2) the analysis of contextual information to improve data quality; (3) the generation of a baseline measure for relative comparison; and (4) the use of either binary (disease/no disease) or multiclass classification, differentiating among types of infections and showing the advantages of multiclass versus binary classification.     Spatial Calibration of Millimetre-Wave Radar for Close-Range Object Location

DOI: 10.1109/JSEN.2024.3393030Accurate object detection and location systems are essential for many robotic applications, including autonomous grasping and manipulation systems. In some cases, the target object may be obscured from view, in clutter, packaging, or debris. Millimetre wave radar is a potential alternative to visual sensing in such scenarios, owing to its ability to penetrate typical low-density non-metallic materials. However, this approach requires accurate spatial calibration of the radar signal, over the robot workspace. We propose to achieve this with reference to visual data, which provides ground truth locations for initial training of the system. Specifically, we describe a commodity millimetre wave radar system for detecting and localizing static metallic objects, over a 2D workspace. We compare similarity, affine, and thin-plate spline models of the spatial transformation from radar estimates to actual locations. Experiments were performed with a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) device, using a starting frequency of 60 GHz and a bandwidth of 3.4 GHz. Los resultados incluyen la supervisión tecnológica de los temas tratados y un plan de gestión del proyecto que comprende la gestión de las partes interesadas, las actividades, los riesgos, el calendario y el presupuesto. De este modo se ofrece una visión general de cómo debe gestionarse un proyecto de software de esta magnitud.     El presente artículo se plantea como objetivo analizar los perfiles de escritoras italianas presentes en el Theatro delle donne letterate, que Francesco Agostino della Chiesa publica en 1620. Este catálogo comprende 574 biografías de mujeres de diferentes épocas, países y clases sociales. Nuestro análisis contextualiza este texto en la tradición ejemplificadora, biográfica y laudatoria del debate cultural de la ‘Querella de las mujeres’, demostrando la intertextualidad que lo relaciona con otros textos y autores anteriores. Se indaga en los motivos del autor y se clarifica su posición en este debate con respecto a otros autores y otros textos; por último, se analiza la estructura de estas biografías para poner de manifiesto los esquemas compositivos y las estrategias retóricas que el autor utiliza en el contenido y presentación de estas escritoras.The objective of this article is to analyze the profiles of Italian women writers present in the Theatro delle donne letterate, which Agostino della Chiesa published in 1620. This catalog includes 574 biographies of women from different periods, countries, and social classes. Our analysis contextualizes this text in the exemplifying, biographical and laudatory tradition of the cultural debate of the Querelle des femmes, demonstrating the intertextuality that relates it to other texts and previous authors. The author’s motives are investigated and his position in this debate is clarified with respect to other authors and other texts. Finally, the structure of these biographies is analyzed to reveal the compositional schemes and rhetorical strategies that the author uses in the content and presentation of these women writers.peerReviewe

    On the electrohydrodynamic jet printing of two-dimensional material-based inks for printed electronics

This method enables the printing of extremely fine features, making it ideal for applications such as printed electronics. However, little is known about the optimal conditions for achieving consistent jet stability and droplet formation, especially when dealing with complex and volatile fluids laden with two-dimensional (2D) nanoparticles. In this work, we study the electrohydrodynamic printing process of 2D material-based inks using toluene as the main carrier fluid. Adding ethyl cellulose to toluene allows us to increase the stability of the suspensions and establish the steady cone-jet mode of electrospray. A small amount of ethanol increases the fluid conductivity, stabilizing the steady cone-jet mode and reducing the jet diameter. The inks behave as leaky-dielectric, weakly viscoelastic liquids. For this reason, the jet diameter and minimum flow rate obey the scaling laws for electrospray of Newtonian liquids. We determine the optimal parameter conditions for the EHD printing of our inks directly onto a non-conductive substrate. The influence of the substrate's velocity on the width of the printed lines is analyzed. These findings enlarge the knowledge about how to increase the throughput in the EHD jet printing process while controlling the resolution of the printed lines when using volatile solvents, 2D nanomaterials, and non-conductive substratesLa impresión por chorro electrohidrodinámico (EHD) es una conocida técnica de fabricación avanzada que utiliza campos eléctricos para generar y controlar chorros finos de fluido para la deposición de materiales de alta precisión. Este método permite la impresión de características extremadamente finas, lo que lo hace ideal para aplicaciones como la electrónica impresa. Sin embargo, se sabe poco sobre las condiciones óptimas para lograr una estabilidad constante del chorro y la formación de gotas, especialmente cuando se trata de fluidos complejos y volátiles cargados de nanopartículas bidimensionales (2D). En este trabajo, estudiamos el proceso de impresión electrohidrodinámica de tintas basadas en materiales 2D utilizando tolueno como principal fluido portador. La adición de etilcelulosa al tolueno nos permite aumentar la estabilidad de las suspensiones y establecer el modo de cono-chorro constante de electrospray. Una pequeña cantidad de etanol aumenta la conductividad del fluido, estabilizando el modo de chorro cónico constante y reduciendo el diámetro del chorro. Las tintas se comportan como líquidos viscoelásticos débiles y dieléctricos permeables. Por esta razón, el diámetro del chorro y el caudal mínimo obedecen a las leyes de escala para la electropulverización de líquidos newtonianos. Determinamos las condiciones de parámetros óptimas para la impresión EHD de nuestras tintas directamente sobre un sustrato no conductor. Se analiza la influencia de la velocidad del sustrato en el ancho de las líneas impresas. Estos hallazgos amplían el conocimiento sobre cómo aumentar el rendimiento en el proceso de impresión por chorro EHD mientras se controla la resolución de las líneas impresas al utilizar solventes volátiles, nanomateriales 2D y sustratos no conductores.This work was financially supported by Nos.     Main causes of producing honey bee colony losses in southwestern Spain: a novel machine learning‑based approach

This sector is important for generating essential products, preserving ecosystems, and crop pollination. This study includes the sampling of 179 beehives from three apiaries in the traditional beekeeping area of Extremadura (Spain) vital beekeeping sector and was carried out between 2020 and 2021 using the decision trees-based model. Some studies have tried to identify the primary causative factors of this issue. However, it is insufficient because the approach disregards potential nonlinear interactions among the various factors. For this reason, through meticulous exploration of different causative factors including Varroa destructor, Nosema ceranae, Deformed Wing Virus (DWV), Chronic Bee Paralysis Virus (CBPV), and strength factors, our study employed for first time machine learning methods to identify the most important variables generating colony loss. Our analysis underscores the importance of brood levels (operculated and open), pollen and honey, Varroa destructor infestation, virus (DWV), and honey bee populations as key determinants of colony survival. These findings hold promise for guiding efficacious colony management strategies and underscoring the latent potential of machine-learning applications in the realm of beekeeping.Las abejas melíferas poseen un papel fundamental como polinizadores primarios, pero actualmente se enfrentan a una creciente crisis de pérdida de colonias a escala global. Este sector es importante para generar productos esenciales, preservar ecosistemas y polinizar cultivos. Este estudio incluye el muestreo de 179 colmenas de tres apiarios de la zona apícola tradicional de Extremadura (España), vital para el sector apícola y se llevó a cabo entre 2020 y 2021 utilizando el modelo basado en árboles de decisión. Algunos estudios han intentado identificar los principales factores causantes de este problema. Sin embargo, es insuficiente porque el enfoque ignora las posibles interacciones no lineales entre los diversos factores. Por esta razón, a través de una exploración meticulosa de diferentes factores causales, incluidos Varroa destructor, Nosema ceranae, virus de las alas deformadas (DWV), virus de la parálisis crónica de las abejas (CBPV) y factores de fuerza, nuestro estudio empleó por primera vez métodos de aprendizaje automático para identificar los factores más comunes. variables importantes que generan la pérdida de colonias. Nuestro análisis remarca la importancia de los niveles de cría (operculadas y abiertas), el polen y la miel, la infestación por Varroa destructor, el virus (DWV) y las poblaciones de abejas melíferas como determinantes clave de la supervivencia de las colonias.     School anxiety and school refusal due to tangible rewards outside the school context

    La prevalencia del rechazo escolar va en aumento y existen factores de riesgo principalmente en la población hispana con relación a otros grupos étnicos. Por otro lado, debido a la alta prevalencia de casos de ansiedad escolar en la población estudiantil, se han venido realizando numerosas investigaciones a nivel mundial, cuya finalidad es prever a futuro nefastas consecuencias en la vida profesional de los involucrados. El objetivo principal del presente trabajo consiste en conocer las diferencias en ansiedad escolar en función de las altas y bajas puntuaciones en el factor IV “Búsqueda de refuerzos tangibles fuera del ámbito escolar” de la prueba SRAS-R-C. La muestra estuvo compuesta por un total de 1920 alumnos de 1º, 2º y 3º de Bachillerato, de 15 a 18 años, matriculados en tres instituciones educativas públicas de Ecuador. Para alcanzar dicho objetivo se ha empleado “School Refusal Assessment Scale Revised for Children” (SRAS-R-C), concretamente la subescala que evalúa el factor IV “Búsqueda de refuerzos tangibles fuera del ámbito escolar”, y el “Inventario de Ansiedad Escolar” (IAES) para medir la ansiedad escolar durante la adolescencia. El análisis de datos se realizó mediante la prueba t de Student. Los estudiantes con bajas puntuaciones en el Factor IV (búsqueda de refuerzos tangibles fuera del ámbito escolar) puntuaron significativamente más alto en el FI IAES (Ansiedad ante la agresión), FIII IAES (Ansiedad ante el fracaso escolar y sanciones disciplinarias), A. PSIC. (Ansiedad Psicofisiológica), y A. CON. (Ansiedad Conductual). Estos resultados reflejan la necesidad de futuras investigaciones enmarcadas en las variables propuestas en el presente estudio, esto es, rechazo escolar versus ansiedad escolar para diseñar planes de intervención que permitan prevenir conducta de rechazo a la escuela por búsqueda de refuerzos tangibles fuera del ámbito escolar.The prevalence of school refusal is increasing and there are risk factors mainly in the Hispanic population in relation to other ethnic groups. On the other hand, due to the high prevalence of cases of school anxiety in the student population, numerous investigations have been carried out worldwide, the purpose of which is to foresee dire future consequences in the professional lives of those involved. The main objective of this work is to know the differences in school anxiety based on high and low scores in factor IV “Search for tangible reinforcement outside the school environment” of the SRAS-R-C test. The sample was made up of 1920 students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of high school, aged 15 and 18, and enrolled in 3 public educational institutions in Ecuador. To achieve this objective, the “School Refusal Assessment Scale Revised for Children” (SRAS-R-C) has been used, specifically the subscale that evaluates factor IV “Search for tangible reinforcement outside the school environment”, and the “School Anxiety Inventory” (IAES) to measure school anxiety during adolescence. The data analysis was conducted utilizing the Student’s t test. Students with low scores in Factor IV (search for tangible reinforcement outside the school environment) scored significantly higher in the FI IAES (Anxiety about aggression), FIII IAES (Anxiety about school failure and disciplinary sanctions), A. PSIC. (Psychophysiological Anxiety), and A. WITH. (Behavioral Anxiety). These results reflect the need for future research framed in the variables proposed in the present study, that is, school rejection versus school anxiety to design intervention plans that prevent school rejection behavior due to the search for tangible reinforcements outside the school environment.peerReviewe

    Systematic review of the scientific production of knowledge in literature didactics

    La didáctica de la literatura con el tiempo ha desarrollado diversas líneas de producción investigativa que dan cuenta de su importancia como campo de estudio. Este artículo tiene como objetivos analizar la producción científica sobre este tema y conocer sus tendencias de investigación empleando dos prestigiosas bases de datos internacionales: Scopus y Web of Science (WOS). Se realizó un estudio bibliométrico descriptivo de corte longitudinal y de mapeo científico sobre 449 artículos y un análisis de contenido sobre 101 publicaciones de libre acceso para analizar la evolución de la base de conocimientos en didáctica de la literatura. Los resultados la configuran como un área disciplinar consolidada en los últimos treinta años, destacándose un crecimiento exponencial de investigaciones entre los años 2012-2021, con una presencia investigativa en todos los continentes, destacándose Europa y, específicamente, España como el país con la más alta producción científica y una mayor presencia de investigadores y coautorías. En cuanto a sus tendencias de investigación, en primer lugar, predominan las investigaciones respecto del “Corpus literario”, especialmente, sobre la literatura infantil y juvenil (LIJ); y segundo, investigaciones sobre “Prácticas de enseñanza” que dan cuenta de diversos itinerarios didácticos de lectura y escritura empleados eficazmente en las aulas.Literature didactics developed some research production lines that show its importance as a study field. This article's objectives are to analyze the scientific production on this topic and to know its research trends using two Scopus and Web of Science (WOS) databases. A descriptive bibliometric study of longitudinal cut and scientific mapping was carried out on 449 articles and a content analysis on 101 open access publications to analyze the knowledge base's evolution literature didactics. The results show a consolidated over thirty years disciplinary area, highlighting exponential growth of research between 2012 and 2021. All continents, but mostly Europe and specifically Spain, presented the highest scientific production rates and greater numbers of researchers and co-authorships.
