New data of the hospital, brotherhood and our Lady of Charity. An extinct assistance brotherhood in Huelva
The Hospital of Charity in Huelva existed between 1522 and 1868, it was used to heal poor patients. Next to the hospital, a small hermitage was created in which Our Lady of Charity was located. Shortly after, the Brotherhood of Holy Charity was cre-ated around the Virgin. Over the years this corporation evolved into the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary of Caridad.

This article analyzes the parallels between the praefatio of the Compendiosa coaptatio rhetorica (1515) by Antonio de Nebrija and the prologue of the Ars dicedi (1556) by Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas (El Brocense). Both works were born in a academic context to serve as textbooks in university classrooms. Nebrija composed his work at the request of Cardinal Cisneros, while El Brocense wrote his rhetoric after being hired as «Regente» at the recently inaugurated Trilingue College of Salamanca. Nebrija accepted Cisneros’s commission even though he considered it a difficult and unnecessary task due to the existence of a rich previous tradition. The Brocense, on the other hand, takes this tradition as the starting point to develop a project whose novelty lies in the different organization of the doctrines. The attitude when composing a rhetoric manual, the assessment made of the sources used and the different opinion regarding the survival of the genus judiciale allow us to affirm that El Brocense was thinking about Nebrija’s work when he composed the prologue of his Ars dicendi.peerReviewe

CYAL-worn memories: memory of the Spanish Civil War in 21st century children's and young adult literaturesiglo XXI
This paper proposes a dual research: on the one hand, to offer a panoramic view of how the memory of the Spanish Civil War is transmitted in children's and young adult's literature of our times, paying special attention to the technical narrative structure and the chronotope. On the other hand, the aim is to investigate the focus of the children's/youth characters in these texts and the position of the authors with respect to the events of the war.
As a methodological approach, once the academic concept of 'memory' is clarified within the realm of literature, a critical analysis is carried out on fifteen Spanish publications targeting the young audience. All these narrative’s fiction works, applicable to literary education and commercially distributed since the year 2000. By way of conclusion, the data is synthesized to demonstrate both the technical means through which the story is being recounted and its 'memory' is being conveyed in 21st century children's and young adult literature (CYAL), as well as the prevailing trends and predominant positioning of contemporary authors.peerReviewe
University students’ perception of the dehesa and the associated traditional trades
The dehesas are one of the most emblematic landscapes of the Extremadura region (Spain). Along with its natural values, it preserves a wide repertoire of knowledge and trades rooted in the history and tradition of rural communities. However, the knowledge and practices that have characterized life in this environment are currently under serious threat. Faced with this problem, this study was based on the premise that, for individuals to commit themselves to the care and transmission of heritage, it is first necessary for them to know, understand and value it. For this reason, the main objective was to determine the knowledge and appreciation of university students with respect to the dehesa and the ancestral practice of grazing. It also aimed to analyze which are the most valued methodologies, activities, and future strategies for understanding and preserving these cultural landscapes and their ancestral practices. To this end, 400 university students were surveyed, and various quantitative and qualitative analyses were carried out. Quantitative techniques include analyses based on weighted averages, contingency tables and the chi-square test, while qualitative techniques are based on word frequency analysis and inductive content analysis. Despite coming from an environment dominated by this landscape and being one of the few regions that still preserve the ancestral practice of pastoralism, the results corroborated the students’ lack of understanding of the dehesa and the variety of uses it offers. In addition, it was evident that they have hardly frequented this landscape and have not participated in on-site educational experiences. It also revealed the importance of experiential and sensory activities in the understanding and appreciation of the rural environment and its traditions. The results can be useful for improving the design of educational tourism products based on intangible heritage. It can also be useful for adapting teaching strategies and activities to the level of knowledge and experiences of students, helping to ensure the success of the educational experience. This research is part of the research conducted during the execution of the project “Agritourism in the dehesas of Extremadura: an opportunity to increase agricultural incomes and the fixation of the population in rural areas”, and its code number is IB20012. Streets classification models by urban features for road traffic noise estimation
Road traffic is the primary source of environmental noise pollution in cities. This problem is also spreading due to inadequate urban expansion planning. Hence, integrating road traffic noise analysis into urban planning is necessary for reducing city noise in an effective, adaptable, and sustainable way. This study aims to develop a methodology that applies to any city for the stratification of urban roads by their functionality through only their urban features. It is intended to be a tool to cluster similar streets and, consequently, traffic noise to enable urban and transportation planners to support the reduction of people’s noise exposure. Three multivariate ordered logistic regression statistical models (Model 1, 2, and 3) are presented that significantly stratify urban roads into five, four, and three categories, respectively. The developed models exhibit a McFadden pseudo-R2 between 0.5 and 0.6 (equivalent to R2 >0.8). The choice between Model 1 or 2 depends on the scale of the city. Model 1 is recommended for developed cities with an extensive road network, while Model 2 is most suitable in intermediate and growing cities. On the other hand, Model 3 could be applied at any city scale but focused on local management of transit routes and for designing acoustic sensor installations, urban soundwalks, and identification of quiet areas. Urban features related to road width and length, presence of transport infrastructure, and public transport routes are associated with increased traffic noise in all three models. These models prove useful for future action plans aimed at reducing noise through strategic urban planning. This research was funded by Chilean National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) through the project FONDECYT No. 1180547, and by the Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FCI) at the University Austral of Chile (UACh) through the InnovING 2030 mobility scholarship and applied research grant. Motivational climate and academic engagement: The Mediating role of academic satisfaction and motivation
Previous studies highlight that students' perceptions of teaching practice affect their learning process. The purpose of this research is to predict the academic engagement of university students according to their perceptions of the motivational climate and to analyze the mediating role of academic satisfaction and motivation. The research involved 637 students from the University of Extremadura and the University of Cádiz who were administered various scales to measure the variables under study. The data were analysed using a structural equation modeling withe the PLS-SEM method. The findings indicate positive effects of the mastery climate on satisfaction, motivation and engagement; of satisfaction on motivation and engagement and of motivation on academic engagement. Likewise, satisfaction and motivation mediate the relationship between the mastery climate and academic engagement. Finally, through the predictive validity of the model, it is determined that it has a medium out-of-sample predictive power. Strategies are proposed for university teachers to establish a mastery climate in the classroom, thus improving student learning.peerReviewe
Asset allocation models for big tech stocks: The importance of lower partial moments and short length windows
The group of companies formed by Meta, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet have become a successful investment alternative in the U.S. stock market. In this context, the aim of this research is to provide investment strategies based on these companies to the challenge of how individual investors should allocate their funds in a portfolio and outperform benchmarks such as the SPY ETF or a naïve portfolio. To this end, we developed a total of 20 asset allocation models and constructed portfolios with different rebalancing periods between April 2014 and June 2022. Our overall results reveal that a combination of a short window length for estimating the parameters of the asset allocation models and a procedure that takes downside risk into account, more precisely the Lower Partial Moment approach, significantly outperforms the alternative of investing in the SPY ETF and also the naïve portfolio.peerReviewe
Comparative analysis between virtual visits and pedagogical outings to heritage sites: an application in the teaching of history
In recent years, the teaching and learning of history have been transformed by the incorporation of active methodologies and digital tools. Virtual reality (VR) is one such tool that is being increasingly used in classrooms. It allows students to visit and experience spaces from other historical periods, even those that have been lost. However, due to its relatively slow adoption in formal educational settings, there is still a paucity of scientific references where this type of experience has been empirically tested to prove its potential benefits. Further research on this issue is therefore needed. This study presents a comparative analysis of the didactic use of historical heritage from the Roman period using two different methodological strategies: an educational visit to a museum and a virtual tour via electronic devices. The main objective is to compare the effectiveness of these two methods in terms of usability, learning outcomes, and emotional responses. The study was conducted with 51 primary school teachers in training. Data were collected using two ad hoc questionnaires, which were based on a previous one. A hybrid analysis methodology was adopted, with SPSS used for interpreting the quantitative data and Atlas Ti for the qualitative information. The results indicate that the two methodologies were perceived by future teachers as valuable resources for learning and teaching history. The emotions they evoked were primarily curiosity, joy, and motivation, with only minor occurrences of frustration, nervousness, or fear. The experience gained from this first application will make it possible to extend the study to other educational levels, to enrich the conclusions obtained and to evaluate the potential scope of using this combination of methods to develop historical competences and improve heritage education. This research was funded by the Agencia Estatal de Innovación (Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades), grant number PID2019-108271RB-C32/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and grant number PID2020-114954GB-I00, as well as by the Consejería de Economía, Ciencia y Agenda Digital (Junta de Extremadura) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) “A way to make Europe”, grant number IB20172.peerReviewe
