    No full text
It has developed mainly in New York, where masters such as Yoshimitsu Yamada and Zheng Manqing have established themselves. We also highlight the Canadian choreographer Mark Young, who has incorporated Tuishou, Taijiquan in pairs, over the last two decades. In North America, this couple dance has grown academically and culturally, while in Europe its practice has obscured the origins of these influences. This dissertation aims to identify the somatic contributions of Aikido, Tuishou and Kinomichi that are transferable to the health field of Contact Improvisation. An analytical methodology was used for a case study of neurorehabilitation through Contact Improvisation. From this study, scoping reviews and systematic reviews were conducted using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) model to approach this goal. The review identified a number of common therapeutic and rehabilitative factors between modern martial arts and contact improvisation. Based on this analysis, the psychotherapeutic aspects of Aikido were identified and the areas of application of Tuishou were described. Furthermore, Kinomichi was found to be an art of martial origin that makes the therapeutic benefits of Aikido visible. The conclusion of this study shows that the somatic contributions to Contact Improvisation have a common aspect referred to as 'neuromuscular repatterning'

It is of the utmost importance to ensure the structural integrity of buildings in order to guarantee the safety of their occupants. Conventional techniques for monitoring cracks and conducting flexural analysis during loading and unloading tests frequently prove inadequate in terms of accuracy and safety. This study introduces ES1293890 U, an innovative dual-purpose device designed for the precise remote monitoring of cracks and comprehensive flexural analysis. The device is integrated seamlessly into structural health monitoring (SHM) and building information modelling (BIM) systems, thereby providing a holistic approach to structural assessment. The ES1293890 U device offers superior accuracy, with a resolution of 0.01 mm and a maximum deviation of 0.007 mm, which makes it a more effective alternative to existing commercial solutions. The utilisation of recycled and biodegradable materials has the effect of reducing production costs, thereby facilitating the undertaking of more frequent and economically viable testing and monitoring. This enhanced affordability is of paramount importance for the maintenance of building safety and structural integrity through regular assessments. A noteworthy attribute of the ES1293890 U is its capacity to conduct remote measurements, obviating the necessity for professionals to enter potentially hazardous test areas. This not only ensures the safety of personnel but also enables continuous and uninterrupted monitoring, with real-time data capture facilitating timely and informed decision-making. In comparison to traditional gauges, the ES1293890 U exhibits enhanced performance in the monitoring of slab deflections, attributable to its elevated accuracy and comprehensive data acquisition capabilities. This device represents a substantial advancement in structural assessment technology, providing a reliable and efficient tool for improving building safety and integrity. The ES1293890 U’s innovative approach and cost-effective design have the potential to revolutionise structural monitoring practices, making it an invaluable asset to both the scientific community and the construction industry. This research has been financed within the framework of the project PID2019-108271RB-C32/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 with the title “3D SCANNER MASS DATA PROCESSING: SEGMENTATION, RECOGNITION AND GEOMETRIC MODELLING OF NON-CONVENTIONAL BUILDINGS".peerReviewe

The atrioventricular conduction axis in man and mouse

    No full text
Those using the mouse for the purposes of electrophysiological research presume that the morphology of the conduction axis is comparable with the human arrangement. As yet, however, to the best of our knowledge, no direct comparison has been made between the species. By comparing our extensive histological findings in the human heart with comparable serially-sectioned datasets prepared from adult murine hearts, we aimed to provide this information. When comparing the gross anatomy, we used three-dimensional datasets of neonatal mice hearts prepared using episcopic microscopy. The overall cardiac architecture is comparable, although the mouse has a persistent left superior caval vein draining via the coronary sinus. An inferior pyramidal space and an infero-septal recess are both present in the murine heart, although they are not as well developed as in the human heart. The overall arrangement of the conduction axis is similarly comparable, albeit with subtle differences reflecting the incomplete wedging of the subaortic outflow tract in the murine heart. Most significantly, the findings in both species reveal the presence of extensive superior septal pathways, which perhaps explain the finding of base-to-apex activation of the ventricular mass known to occur in the murine heart.peerReviewe

    No full text
In a World torn apart by the contradictions of classes, states and nationalities football functioned as and effective ideology of justification of the existing order in an environment dominated by the theories of social Darwinism and neo-Malthusian currents which defended inequality between men. A time when football practice was linked to bio political measures aimed at combating dysgenics factors, was a model to follow for national socialism. Football became a favourable scenario for the affirmation of collective identities of local and regional antagonisms establishing a metaphorical relationship between nation states and football. Regarding the method used in the work we will preferably use to analysis of primary sources newspapers of the time and the analysis of scientific journals. In our conclusions we will highlight the consequences of the ideological use of football occurred during this period, the indoctrination process, censorship and repression exerted of footballers, clubs and managers.peerReviewe

Pasture quality assessment through NDVI obtained by remote sensing: a validation study in the mediterranean silvo-pastoral ecosystem

    No full text
Monitoring the evolution of pasture availability and quality throughout the growing season is the basis of grazing management in extensive Mediterranean livestock systems. Remote sensing (RS) is an innovative tool that, among many other applications, is being developed for detailed spatial and temporal pasture quality assessment. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the potential of satellite images (Sentinel-2) to assess indicators of pasture quality (pasture moisture content, PMC, crude protein, CP and neutral detergent fiber, NDF) using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Field measurements were conducted over three years at eight representative fields of the biodiversity and variability of dryland pastures in Portugal. A total of 656 georeferenced pasture samples were collected and processed in the laboratory. The results show a significant correlation between pasture quality parameters (PMC, CP and NDF) obtained in standard laboratory methods and NDVI satellite-derived data (R2 of 0.72, 0.75, and 0.50, respectively). The promising findings obtained in this large-scale validation study (three years and eight fields) encourage further research (i) to test and develop other vegetation indexes for monitoring pasture nutritive value; (ii) to extend this research to pastures of the other Mediterranean countries, building large and representative datasets and developing more robust and accurate monitoring models based on freely available Sentinel-2 images; (iii) to implement an extension program for agricultural managers to popularize the use of these technological tools as the basis of grazing and pasture management. This work was funded by National Funds through FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology) under the Project UIDB/05183/2020. Padel is one of the most booming sports today, however, more documents are needed to analyze the performance indicators in top-level competitions. The general objective of this research was to analyze the performance indicators in top-level competitions according to sex. The sample consisted of twelve matches (six men's and six women's) from the final rounds of different World Padel Tour tournaments in 2021, with a total of 1451 number of points. Variables related to the achievement of the point (Type of winning shot, Type of shot, Direction of the shot, Player, Area of the field) and to the dynamics of the game (Number of shots, Achievement of the point) were recorded. The results showed differences between the men's and women's matches, making percentage comparisons of the duration of the point and obtaining them, being able to observe how the game is slower in the women's matches and the variety of getting points is much greater than in the men's matches. Although in both modalities being close to the net is decisive, highlighting the shot, especially in the men's competitions, and the volleys, forehand and backhand, as the most used shots to achieve them. The serve will provide a significant advantage over the rest because they will be placed near the net.peerReviewe

    No full text
The environmental conditions reached during the maturation of cured and matured meat products favour the development of ochratoxin A (OTA) producing moulds on their surface such as Penicillium nordicum and Aspergillus westerdijkiae. One strategy to control this hazard is the use of autochthonous microorganisms as biocontrol agents. The aim of the Doctoral Thesis was to design biocontrol methods with combined protective cultures to reduce OTA in dry-cured ham. First, the combined use of P. chrysogenum 20922 and D. hansenii 253H was shown to reduce OTA production by P. nordicum in dry-cured ham but did not completely suppress it. Subsequently, S. xylosus Sx8 was selected for its antifungal activity and its action was found to be due to competition for nutrients and space, leading to changes in the proteome of ochratoxigenic moulds. During the maturation of dry-cured fermented sausages, D. hansenii 253H inoculated singly or in combination with S. xylosus Sx8 was found to be effective in reducing OTA production by P. nordicum. Their combination was also effective in reducing this mycotoxin in dry-cured ham, leading to changes in the metabolome of ochratoxigenic moulds. Finally, it was observed that the combined culture with D. hansenii 253H, S. xylosus Sx8 and P. chrysogenum Pg222 was the most effective, causing a decrease of more than 98 % of the production of this mycotoxin by P. nordicum and reducing its concentration to unquantifiable values in A. westerdijkiae in dry-cured ham, so that they can be proposed as a mixed protective culture for this food.

Thermal and Hydrodynamic Measurements of a Novel Chaotic Micromixer to Enhance Mixing Performance

    No full text
In this study, three-dimensional simulations were conducted on a new passive micromixer to assess the thermal and hydrodynamic behaviors of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids subjected to low generalized Reynolds numbers (0.1 to 50) and shear-thinning properties. To acquire a more profound comprehension of the qualitative and quantitative fluctuations in fluid fraction using the CFD Fluent Code, the mass mixing index, rheological behavior, performance index, mixing energy cost, mass fraction distributions, temperature contours, and pressure drop were compared to illustrate the importance of the mixer geometry in the context of two miscible fluids with varying inlet temperatures. The selected geometry is characterized by a robust chaotic flow that substantially enhances thermal and hydrodynamic performance across all Reynolds numbers. A mass mixing exceeding 72.5% is obtained when Re = 5, reaching 93.5% when Re = 50. Furthermore, the evolution of thermal mixing for all behavior indexes reaches a step of 98% with minimal pressure losses. This work enabled the demonstration of a chaotic geometry in a highly efficient mixing system, leading to enhanced thermal performance for both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. The results of the hydrodynamic and thermal characterization of the mixing of shear-thinning fluids within the micromixers under investigation are conclusive.n este estudio, se realizaron simulaciones tridimensionales en un nuevo micromezclador pasivo para evaluar los comportamientos térmicos e hidrodinámicos de fluidos newtonianos y no newtonianos sometidos a bajos números de Reynolds generalizados (0,1 a 50) y propiedades de adelgazamiento por cizallamiento.
