Publicado en : Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy, 29(1), 82–96. https://doi.org/10.1080/17408989.2022.2028757Background: Consistent with self-determination theory (SDT), teachers may differ in the motivating style used to motivate students in physical education (PE). When relying on need-supportive behaviors, teachers attempt to provide students with opportunities for choices and initiative (autonomy support), valuable information and feedback (competence support), and an emotional and affective environment (relatedness support). Alternatively, teachers relying on need-thwarting behaviors tend to adopt a controlling language (autonomy thwarting), unclear goals toward the task (competence thwarting), and cold links with students (relatedness thwarting). While competence, autonomy, and relatedness supportive and thwarting behaviors are theoretically distinct in the instructional practice, every teaching behavior may co-occur to different degrees. Grounded in SDT, the only existing person-centered study in PE showed that PE teachers’ autonomy-supportive and controlling teaching behaviors can be combined through the students’ eyes, being associated with different motivational outcomes. Purpose: Adopting a person-centered approach, this research aimed to extend previous knowledge by examining how different combinations of students’ perceptions of autonomy, competence, and relatedness supportive and thwarting teaching behaviors are associated with students’ need satisfaction, need frustration, and motivation in PE. Method: A sample of 478 middle school students (53.97% girls) participated in the study. First, a two-step cluster analysis using autonomy, competence, and relatedness supportive and thwarting behaviors was run to identify different motivating teaching profiles. Subsequently, a multivariate analysis of covariance was conducted to examine differences between the retained clusters and students’ need-based experiences and motivational regulations. Results: Two of these profiles were characterized by the dominant presence either of need-supportive (i.e. ‘high need-support – low need-thwarting’) or need-thwarting behaviors (i.e. ‘low need-support – high need-thwarting’), while they were found to be similarly present in the two remaining profiles (i.e. ‘moderate need-support – need-thwarting’, and ‘moderate need-support – high need-thwarting’). The ‘high need-support – low need-thwarting’ profile obtained the highest scores on need satisfaction and autonomous forms of motivation, accompanied by the lowest levels of need frustration and amotivation. The ‘moderate need-support – need-thwarting’ profile reflected low scores on need frustration, introjected and external regulation, and amotivation. The ‘moderate need-support – need-thwarting’ and the ‘low need-support – high need-thwarting’ profiles showed the highest scores on need frustration, introjected and external regulation, and amotivation. Conclusions: This research underscores that teachers may combine need-supportive and need-thwarting behaviors in their instructional practice. Results revealed that the ‘high need-support – low need-thwarting’ profile showed the most optimal outcomes, while the ‘low need-support – high need thwarting’ profile yielded the least optimal outcomes. Given that the ‘high need-support – low need-thwarting’ profile showed a more optimal pattern of outcomes than the ‘moderate need-support – high need-thwarting’ profile and the ‘moderate need-support – need-thwarting’, results suggest that students’ perception of need-thwarting teaching behaviors is detrimental even when the instructor is additionally perceived to be need-supportive. PE teachers are recommended not only to develop a motivating teaching style characterized by high levels of need-supportive behaviors, but also to avoid need-thwarting behaviors in their instructional practice, in order to enhance students’ motivational experiences.Rafael Burgueño is supported by a ‘Margarita Salas’ Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Universities (grant number: RR_A_2021_02)peerReviewe

Versión aceptada del artículo publicado en Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Volume 199, 2024, 123014, ISSN 0040-1625, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.techfore.2023.123014.This document performs a systematic review of the literature and bibliometrics on the orientation of digital transformation (DT) in the organizational and management processes of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the 2015–2022 period. For this analysis, the bibliometrix and biblioshiny software packages have been used to perform the data extraction and quantitative analysis of the research articles, obtained from the Web of Science (WOS) and Scopus databases. 311 articles related to DT in SMEs were identified as the most representative publications of the subject to be analyzed. The results show that there is a clear orientation of DT to modify organizational processes in SMEs so that they are more agile and are thus able to respond to the sudden changes that originate in the markets. The elements that delimit DT in this study are the digital technologies to implement, the strategies to follow and the digital capabilities. Finally, the main limitations, problems and gaps in the research are presented.peerReviewe

    FLNA cleaving modulates Orai1 expression

Publicado en American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, Volume 328, Issue 2. February 2025, Pages C657-C669 con DOI https://doi.org/10.1152/ajpcell.00745.2024Filamin A (FLNA) is an actin-binding protein that has been reported to interact with STIM1 modulating the activation of Orai1 channels. Cleaving of FLNA by calpain leads to a C-terminal fragment that is involved in a variety of functional and pathological events, including pro-oncogenic activity in different types of cancer. Here we show that full-length FLNA is downregulated in samples from colon cancer patients as well as in the adenocarcinoma cell line HT-29. This is consistent with an increased calpain-dependent FLNA cleaving with enhanced expression of the C-terminal FLNA fragment accompanied by enhanced expression of Orai1 and STIM1, as well as store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE). To further explore the mechanism underlying the enhancement of SOCE by the C-terminal FLNA fragment we expressed in HEK-293 cells the C-terminal FLNA region encompassing repeats 16-24 (FLNA16-24 fragment), which enhanced both Orai1 and STIM1 as well as SOCE. Transfection of the FLNA16-24 fragment attenuates Orai1 and STIM1 protein degradation, and, specifically, abrogates Orai1α lysosomal degradation and retains this channel in the plasma membrane. However, the C-terminal FLNA fragment did not induce a detectable modification in Orai1β degradation. Due to the relevance of SOCE in cell physiology, our results provide evidence of a novel mechanism for the regulation of Ca2+ influx with relevant pathophysiological implications

Relationship between sustainability disclosure and corporate reputation: Evidence from a meta-analysis

    No full text
Previous studies on the connection between sustainability disclosure (SD) and corporate reputation (CR) yielded varying results. This study presents a quantitative analysis of the impact of SD on CR, based on previous empirical studies, while determining the influence of substantive (SD and CR measures), methodological (unit and type of analysis), and extrinsic (number of countries, country legal system, country development, and continents) moderators. Specifically, by employing a meta-analytical approach grounded in a systematic review of the literature, a total of 92 empirical research articles were analyzed. The results confirmed a significant positive correlation between SD and CR, which was greatly affected by the moderation exercised by the measures of reputation of the entity, contextual country differences, and methodological characteristics. European Regional Development Fund (ERDF); Junta of Extremadura; Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, Grant/Award Number: PID2019-107822RB-I00peerReviewe

El derecho al deporte: perspectiva de género

    No full text
This chapter analyzes gender inequality in sports, highlighting how sports have historically been a space of male domination, where women have faced structural and cultural barriers. To this end, it examines the evolution of female participation in sports from Antiquity to the present, revealing the persistence of gender stereotypes and segregation in competitions. Additionally, it analyzes the legal framework of the right to sports from a constitutional and equality perspective, including national and regional legislation, with a specific applied focus on the case of Extremadura. The chapter concludes by identifying the factors that hinder gender equality in access to sports in rural areas and proposing strategies to overcome these barriers within the framework of gender equality.peerReviewe

Analysis of the temporal structure of vehicle flow in cities and a potential application to noise pollution

    No full text
Versión aceptada publicada en: Applied Acoustics, 2024, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apacoust.2024.110195This paper first proposes a methodological approach for analysing the urban road traffic flow. It hypothesizes that the temporal structure of the flow through the streets of a city is sufficiently uniform to define a single variable to describe the temporal variability of the flow, in one-hour intervals, throughout the city. Data from 54 road traffic flow monitoring stations were collected on an hourly basis during 2019 in Madrid, Spain. Then, the mean hourly flow ratio (MHFR) was defined and considered to test the hypothesis. The analyses carried out allow to conclude that the variable defined is adequate to describe the hourly time structure of the flow of road traffic over the course of a year on the streets of the city studied. This result opens the possibility that the temporal variability of environmental variables related to road traffic flow could be studied by using a single independent variable, with an accuracy of one hour, and valid throughout the whole city. Noise pollution is a serious environmental problem that, in our cities, is closely related to vehicle traffic. Consequently, as an example of applicability of MHFR, a study of the relation between hourly equivalent sound level (LAeq,1h) and MHFR was carried out. To do this, data recorded hourly throughout 2019 by 31 noise level measurement stations in Madrid were considered. As a result of this study, highly statistically significant positive correlations were found between the MHFR variable and the data corresponding to each of the noise monitoring stations. These findings suggest that the MHFR variable can be used for appropriate decision making on urban road traffic management, meaning that it can contribute to reducing the impact on the population of noise pollution and other pollutants associated with the hourly variation of traffic flow. This project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Junta de Extremadura (IB18050 and GR21061

La efectividad del derecho de separación y la calificación del crédito de reembolso en el concurso de acreedores

    No full text

Transitioning between automated insulin delivery systems: A focus on personalisation

    No full text
Publicado en: Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, Volume 222, April 2025, 112070. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.diabres.2025.112070BACKGROUND: Automated insulin delivery (AID) systems are the most effective treatment for type 1 diabetes (T1D). When targets are not achieved, transitioning between AID systems is an option. The aim was to assess the impact of switching between systems on glucose control and user satisfaction. METHODS: A multicenter, cross-sectional analysis was conducted. T1D subjects who had switched between AID systems were included. Glycaemic control was compared before the switch, after 14 days, and after 3 months of use of the new system. The participants completed a satisfaction survey. RESULTS: 96 subjects were included (age: 40.8 ± 11.5 years, 73 % female, HbA1c: 6.94 ± 0.68 % (52.3 ± 7 mmol/ mol)). The AID systems evaluated included MiniMedTM-780G, Diabeloop-DBLG1, Tandem-t:slim-x2TM-Control- IQTM, and CamAPS-FX. GMI improved from 6.92 ± 0.49 % to 6.71 ± 0.37 % after 14 days and to 6.68 ± 0.36 % after 3 months and Time in Range 70–180 mg/dl increased from 70.53 ± 11.43 % to 75.73 ± 8.33 % after 14 days and to 75.65 ± 7.64 % after 3 months (p < 0.001 to baseline). The majority of the participants reported higher satisfaction. The factors that most affected satisfaction were the size of the system, the performance of the sensor, and the specificities of the control algorithm. CONCLUSION: Transitioning between AID systems can enhance glucose control and user satisfaction without compromising glycaemic stability during the adjustment period.peerReviewe

Increase in dairy production of goats with subclinical nematode infection using injectable eprinomectin

    No full text
The effect of the treatment with an injectable product containing eprinomectin on milk yield, milk composition, and somatic cell count (SCC) was investigated in naturally infected dairy goats with low gastrointestinal nematode faecal egg and pulmonary larval counts. The study involved 394 lactating goats and was conducted on a farm in southern Spain. Before treatment, faeces from all animals were analysed to establish two homogeneous groups according to the gastrointestinal nematode egg counts (185 treated and 209 untreated). On day 0, each goat in the treatment group received a single subcutaneous injection of 12 mg of eprinomectin (0.6 ml of Eprecis®, CEVA, Spain). The control goats were left untreated. Faecal egg counts and coprocultures were performed on days 0, 30, 60, and 90 post-treatment. Milk samples were taken on days 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 and analysed to determine individual production and milk composition parameters, including fat (F), protein (P), lactose (L), total dry extract (TDE), and SCC. Examination of faecal samples indicated that the goats were mainly infected with gastrointestinal strongylids of the genera Teladorsagia and Trichostrongylus and Muellerius lungworms. The percentage reduction of gastrointestinal nematode faecal egg counts on days 30, 60, and 90 was 97.55 % (90 % CI = 95.1 % - 99.9 %), 90.65 % (90 % CI = 83.7 % - 97.6 %) and 87.5 % (90 % CI = 79.5 % - 95.5 %), respectively, and that of lung larval counts in faeces was 98.48 % (90 % CI = 96.3 % - 100 %), 96.91 % (90 % CI = 84.2 % - 98.9 %), and 82.05 % (90 % CI = 66.9 % - 97.2 %), respectively. Milk yield was consistently and significantly higher in the treated group than in the control group (p = 0.004). The treated goats showed a 4 % increase in daily milk yield (60 ml/day) compared with the untreated goats. There was a significant decrease in F and TDE in the treated goats compared with the untreated goats, but eprinomectin did not affect P, L, and SCC. The estimated economic benefit of using injectable eprinomectin was around 6.46€ per goat over the 120-day period. In conclusion, treatment with injectable eprinomectin has an economical positive effect on milk yield in goats, even those infected with a low burden of gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodesThis study was funded by Ceva Salud Animal, S.A.
