    Embedding Building Information Modelling in the Construction Area: A Case within an Undergraduate Civil Engineering Program

    Undergraduate programs face the challenge of staying up-to-date by responding to globalization, internationalization, and regionalization processes. Civil engineering programs should meet the requirements of the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operation (AECO) industry. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a methodology that involves shared digital representations of built assets to facilitate design, construction, and operation processes within the construction knowledge field. The present research describes a methodology with six mechanisms to develop and consolidate BIM-related competencies within the construction area from an undergraduate civil engineering program. It also explores students’ perceptions about the subjects within this area and their relationship with the training and reinforcement of the competencies. The study follows a descriptive scope with an action research design. The principal result is the methodology, which has six mechanisms: (1) BIM implementation into topics and syllabi; (2) use of collaborative platforms; (3) professor training programs; (4) establishment of student organizations; (5) development of a BIM application project; and (6) area and subject meetings. The validation process, which included professors, enrollment, employability and research rates, and the curricular proposal and students’ perceptions, revealed that the mechanisms could effectively support the development and reinforcement of BIM-related competencies

    Effect of Hybrid Learning on Students’ Academic Performance at the Higher Institute of Nursing Professions and Health Techniques of Oujda

    Following the restrictive security measures imposed by governments during the COVID-19 pandemic, education, like all other social sectors, has been radically disrupted. All educational systems have been urged to adopt distance learning to guarantee the continuation of training. The present study aims to determine the effect of the mode of learning used in training on students’ academic performance at the Higher Institutes of Nursing Professions and Health Techniques (HINPHT) of Oujda in Morocco. Academic results and collected using an exploitation form are compared between two groups of students registered at the institution. The first group includes students who enrolled in September 2019 and were admitted during the COVID-19 containment period. These students initially received face-to-face training in the first semester but were later transitioned to online training during the lockdown period (n = 185). The second comparison group comprises students who received face-to-face training throughout (n = 413). The results of the present study reveal a significant increase in the average number of students who benefited from the hybrid training mode in all semesters. However, failure and dropout rates have increased in the hybrid mode compared to the face-to-face mode. This decrease in the number of students graduating within six semesters is notable in the hybrid mode compared to the control group. Further research can be conducted to examine the effect technological teaching devices may have on learner motivation and sense of control during training

    A Review of Empathy Education with Digital Means among College Students

    The prevalence of the Internet and the development of digital technology have enabled people to communicate with each other easily and instantly. Yet the physical distance in virtual communication may inhibit intimacy and the expression of empathy towards each other. This paper has carried out a review study on the experiments of empathy training for college students, aimed at finding out the effective strategies for intervention activities. The review shows that educators incorporated various digital means into the curriculum design so that students may interact with each other online or with computer programs. In addition, self-reflection through writing and digital stories plays an essential role in the cultivation of empathy. Finally, the paper points out that further research should raise more concerns about the full-view assessment of empathy training results and the sustained development of empathic ability. The paper argues for the inclusion of more diversified subjects in the experiments

    Mobile Learning for Transforming English Writing Skills: A Systematic Review (2013–2023)

    Language learning has been transformed by the use of mobile learning (m-learning) technologies in educational settings, especially with growing interest in improving productive skills. Considering m-learning as a prominent menace, the objective of this paper was to investigate the effects of m-learning tools on English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ English writing proficiency. This study offers a thorough review of modern m-learning tactics and technologies. Three research questions were developed to frame this investigation. The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) technique was used to assess and categorize 21 selected papers published between 2013 and 2023 from the Scopus and Web of Science (WOS) databases. The subject of the study and methodologies were assessed by the content analysis of published articles. Convenience, enhanced engagement, motivation, self-paced learning, learning autonomy, and interactivity were the other six main study findings that were found. Consequently, this review can serve as a starting point for future research projects aimed at managing m-learning as well as new avenues of investigation for the development of English writing abilities. Finally, some recommendations for further research are included in the conclusion section

    Factors Influencing Student Satisfaction with LMS Mobile Application: A TAM-Based SEM Analysis

    Mobile applications for learning management systems (LMS) are becoming extremely common in higher education institutions, with student satisfaction (SS) being crucial for their adoption and effectiveness. This study addresses the gap in understanding factors influencing SS with LMS mobile applications by employing structural equation modeling (SEM) based on the technology acceptance model (TAM). Quantitative study was adopted in this study, involving 475 undergraduate students. The findings of the study revealed that students’ satisfaction with mobile applications for LMS is significantly and positively influenced by external factors (mobile application self-efficacy, content quality, and enjoyment), as well as perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. The results provide practical insights for decision-makers, professionals, and developers in higher educational institutes on how to effectively implement e-learning systems using mobile applications

    Exploring a Mobile Technology-Driven Model for Intercultural Communication Education

    In the context of accelerating globalization, intercultural communication competence has become a crucial element for the success of individuals and organizations. The frequent international interactions have underscored the importance of enhancing methods for improving intercultural communication skills within the educational sector. The rapid advancement of mobile technology offers unprecedented opportunities for educational innovation. Its convenience and widespread use have made mobile device-based learning models highly attractive. Particularly, advancements in real-time speech processing technologies have provided new tools and methods for intercultural communication education. By leveraging mobile real-time speech detection and synthesis technologies, a more interactive and personalized learning experience can be achieved, thereby enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of language learning. This study aims to explore a mobile technology-based model for intercultural communication education and is divided into three main parts: firstly, the investigation of mobile real-time speech detection technologies aimed at intercultural communication education to provide instant feedback and improvement suggestions; secondly, the exploration of mobile real-time speech synthesis technologies to generate high-quality speech samples for learners to practice against; and thirdly, the integration of the aforementioned technologies to develop a flexible, efficient, and highly interactive learning system based on mobile technology. This study is expected to not only improve the effectiveness of intercultural communication education but also provide significant references for the innovative application of educational technologies

    Enhanced Learning Outcomes with Audio in E-learning: An Analysis

    Audio in any form whether as narration, sound effects, background music, or commentary can make e-learning more interesting for a learner. It completes the sensory engagement in a learner where the visual meets the auditory to comprehend a learning component. As an instructional designer and trainer, over the years, I have created several e-learning courses for adult learners with and without audio. The learning outcomes of the two when compared using several surveys and other evaluation mechanisms showed that learners not only prefer learning instruction that has audio but were also able to retain the learning and apply it to their jobs. This paper analyses how the level of learning outcomes is better in e-learning courses with audio than without audio. It shares some of the science and research that supports this. In addition, it describes the learner surveys and evaluation mechanisms that I have used to prove this and discusses the national and international compliances that make audio a mandate in e-learning to support of my analysis

    The Impact of a Blended Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training Program on CPR Knowledge and Attitude to Perform It: The Case of Non-Medical Undergraduate

    Blended learning (BL) has recently been extensively utilized as an effective instructional method in the educational field. Despite its benefits, few studies investigate its impact on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training programs for non-medical students and staff. The importance of CPR training lies in its contribution to achieving the third sustainable development goal (SDG) by enhancing survival rates. Nevertheless, some obstacles have hindered university students from participating in these courses. This study aims to identify the impact of blended learning, which integrates asynchronous online learning with face-toface instruction, on CPR knowledge and attitudes among non-medical undergraduates. Using a true experimental design, the experimental group (n = 41) received the BL CPR training program while the control group (n = 40) received the convolutional CPR training program. Data were collected using a developed CPR knowledge test and an attitude measure toward performing CPR before and after the program. The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) analysis at the 5% significance level (p < 0.05) revealed a significant positive influence of the BL method on enhancing students’ CPR knowledge and their attitudes toward performing it. These results recommend that decision-makers employ BL programs to enhance students’ CPR knowledge and attitudes toward performing it

    The Tendency to Accept Entrepreneurial Endeavors among Future Generations

    The study aims to investigate whether students, after finishing their university education and receiving an entrepreneurship education, have a significant tendency to pursue entrepreneurship as a lifelong pursuit rather than choosing traditional career paths in the public or private sectors. In addition, the study aims to clarify the significance of encouraging economic growth among college students at a National university in Sri Lanka. The research employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive study design to provide a detailed analysis of entrepreneurship education for future research. This study employed a structured questionnaire as an instrument for polling to assess students’ views on the efficacy of entrepreneurship education. The study sample consisted of 76 students who had successfully finished the entrepreneurship course during their first year from the Applied Sciences Faculty and were studying different combinations of science streams together with management modules. Six hypotheses are formulated to address the specific objectives of the research. The study’s findings revealed that most students do not believe that the education system in Sri Lanka effectively delivers the needed entrepreneurial education, which is crucial for the country’s economic development. Students strongly believe that the government fails to emphasize the right requirements for improving the entrepreneurial education system in Sri Lanka. Moreover, students acknowledge that they do not intend to pursue future entrepreneurial endeavors. Most students do not believe that the university curriculum adequately and necessarily prepares them with the necessary vocational training to enhance their preparedness and desire for entrepreneurship. Additionally, the research findings indicate that undergraduates who are pursuing a scientific major at Sri Lankan National University have a restricted sense of locus of control. The exploration of these results takes into account the existing knowledge and the unresolved aspects of the current national education systems to identify the hidden innovation in the prospects for the future of the younger generation in the country as they relate to national economic growth

    Analyzing Facebook Mobile Usage: Efficacy and ESL Learners’ Writing Proficiency

    Facebook has leveraged rapid technological and societal changes over the past decade and has emerged as the largest social networking platform. However, research on Facebook has been limited, particularly when examining its potential to improve English as a second language (ESL) writing in comparison to a control group. The study aims to explore the morphological, syntactic, and orthographical aspects of ESL writing through an experimental group [N = 30] using Facebook on mobile and a control group [N = 30] with a traditional teaching approach. The experimental and control groups undergo observation through twice-weekly, in-class-focused free writing sessions for 10 weeks. The progress of the learners’ writing was tracked using pre- and post-tests to assess its impact. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) test revealed that the experimental group made more significant advancements in writing by reducing morphological, syntactic, and orthographical errors compared to the control group. These results validate previous studies that support the use of Facebook on mobile devices in ESL courses and emphasize the need for further research comparing Facebook with other writing platforms
