Empowering Teachers in E-Learning: A Case-Based Recommender System for Effective Learning Design

    Get PDF
In the rapidly evolving field of e-learning over the past decade, the learning design (LD) sector has emerged as a crucial determinant of success. It plays a vital role in ensuring effective instructional design, preserving best practices, enhancing educational quality, promoting personalization, and embracing technological innovation. However, the creation of effective LDs can be challenging due to the diverse range of learning methods, strategies, resources, learner profiles, evolving technologies, and communication platforms. This paper aims to address the research question of how to efficiently leverage recommender systems (RSs) and repurpose existing LD solutions to provide valuable support for teachers in the LD process. Specifically, this paper focuses on the implementation of case-based recommender system (CBRS) and presents the initial evaluation results. CBRS, which is a RS, assists teachers in locating and reusing pre-existing LDs. The initial evaluation results validate the system’s effectiveness in supporting teachers throughout the LD process by offering reliable and useful LDs. Furthermore, additional findings pertaining to the overall user perception and the perceived value of CBRS are discussed

The Contextual Environment as a Catalyst for Change in the Learning Process and Learning Styles of Students

    Get PDF
This study aims to assess whether students’ learning styles have changed due to the environmental context changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. This analysis is important because learning styles, in addition to predicting vocational outcomes, must inform the design of pedagogical practices and supports used in the teaching environment. To achieve this objective, a cross-sectional analysis was conducted on three cohorts of students who enrolled in an engineering course. Students in group 2 have been under confinement conditions during the previous year, while students in group 3 have been under confinement conditions for the previous two years. Group 1 consists of students who did not experience any confinement. The obtained results lead to the following conclusions: (i) The pandemic outbreak has led to environmental changes, pedagogical practices, and changes in the personality profiles of students, which can significantly impact the learning styles of students entering an engineering degree. (ii) While some learning styles are more susceptible to change, others remain resilient. (iii) The duration of exposure to the environmental changes caused by the pandemic outbreak has a greater impact on the changes in these learning styles

Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation of Students’ Classroom Experience in Online Teaching

    Get PDF
Under the COVID-19 outbreak, the traditional teaching mode in universities is limited, and online teaching is in full swing. However, various factors that affect students’ online classroom experience in teaching have characteristics of fuzziness and uncertainty. Therefore, using the course of human resource management as an example, this paper employs the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation (FCE) method to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the classroom experience of online teaching students. This paper aims to minimize the impact of human or subjective factors by developing a scientific, rational, and practical multilevel fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model for assessing students’ classroom experience in online teaching courses

Evaluation of Information Skills and Innovative Literacy Cultivation of Digital Talent in Universities

    Get PDF
In the context of globalization and informatization, cultivating the information ability and innovative literacy of university digital talents is of great significance for cultivating talents in supply chain majors. However, some shortcomings remain in the information ability evaluation and innovative literacy cultivation of university talents in the current education system. In this context, this study conducted in-depth research on the information ability evaluation of digital talents in universities and its impact on the cultivation of innovative literacy. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was first adopted to make a quantitative evaluation of the information ability of university digital talents, which aimed to compensate for the shortcomings of existing qualitative evaluation methods. Then, regression models, as well as mediating and moderating effect models, were constructed to deeply analyze the impact of information ability on innovative literacy cultivation, aiming to reveal the complexity of the impact mechanism. This study aimed to provide new perspectives and methods for theory and practice, thereby improving the information ability evaluation system and the innovative literacy cultivation mechanism of digital talents in universities. This study is not only theoretically significant, but it also provides a practical reference for universities in cultivating talents in supply chain major

Value Assessment of Online Educational Resources in the Context of Blended Learning

    Get PDF
In the context of promoting informatization education and reforming blended learning, how to accurately assess the value of online educational resources has become an important research topic. However, most existing assessment methods rely on direct data statistics and experience-based judgment, lacking scientific prediction models and comprehensive consideration of learning cycles. To solve this problem, this study constructed a hit prediction model of online educational resources based on the fusion of extreme learning machine and grey Verhulst model, and a hit-based value assessment model of the resources considering the learning cycles of students. The research results showed that the proposed model not only predicted and assessed the value of online educational resources more accurately, but also provided theoretical support and decision-making reference for the implementation of blended learning reform, thereby promoting the effective utilization of online educational resources

Enhancing Tourist Experiences in Crowded Destinations through Mobile Augmented Reality: A Comparative Field Study

    Get PDF
Mobile augmented reality (MAR) has gained significant attention in the tourism sector as a way to enhance the visitor experience. The rapid advancements in mobile computing and sensor technologies have facilitated the widespread use of geospatial augmented reality (AR) applications by tourists when exploring popular destinations. To analyze the impact of AR technology on the tourism experience, we developed the FEZAR mobile application. This application serves as the focal point of our study, allowing us to evaluate user performance using a comparative experimental approach. To ensure the usability of the FEZAR application, professionals with expertise in mobile technologies, including AR, performed rigorous testing and evaluation of the application. Through their evaluations, significant usability issues were identified and resolved, resulting in the application being well-received by the experts. Subsequently, a comparative field study was conducted in Fez’s old medina, a crowded UNESCO heritage site, involving users (N = 40) who were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups in equal distribution. The results of the study revealed that the proposed AR model had a significant positive impact on user visits. Compared to other forms of media, AR offers more informative and enjoyable experiences. Additionally, it effectively helps locate monuments in crowded tourism settings. The findings of this research make a valuable contribution to the ongoing discussion regarding the impact of evaluating MAR user interfaces on increasing visitor engagement with tourist destinations

MOOCMaven: Bridging M-Learning and Open Data for Enhanced Unified MOOC Exploration

    Get PDF
We live in a modern environment where learning does not have any barriers. Our work aims to become the main gateway for people of any interest to take advantage of the full opportunities of e-learning. We also built a dataset of e-learning courses from various sources and developed a platform that can understand search queries. We introduce a unified massive open online courses (MOOCs) searching platform using semantic methodology called MOOCMaven. Our platform can be accessed both via web and mobile. This paper demonstrates the platform’s efficiency in generating a list of courses relevant to search queries. Additionally, MOOCMaven offers an application programming interface (API) collection to ensure access to the data. Our approach could find the gaps in e-learning course discovery and highlight the solution to the public. This paper provides a detailed description of the algorithms, methodologies, and technologies utilized to augment the usefulness and efficacy of the platform
