    No full text
The purpose of this article is to characterize the meanings constructed by a group of university students who are being trained as future L1 teachers with respect to the teaching of linguistics at this level of training. The research corresponds to a single case study based on the interview of 10 students in their third, fourth and fifth year of the Pedagogy in Spanish degree at a Chilean public university. The results allow us to conclude that the interviewees construct their discourse assuming the future teaching role for which they are being trained and that, from there, they articulate a critical view of a training that they consider academicist, theoretical and abstract.

This study examines the impact of reclaiming literary classics on the development of global competence among future Early Childhood Education teachers at the University of Antioquia (Medellín, Colombia). A literary pathway was designed based on selected excerpts from Cien años de soledad, using the picturebook Expedición Macondo (Vasco, 2019). The themes explored included cultural and geographical heritage, freedom and education, multiculturalism, and domestic feminism. A qualitative approach was employed, based on participatory action research, with two classroom sessions and a final meeting with a focus group composed of four students from different regions of Colombia. Data collection techniques included direct observation, analysis of student productions, and participatory assemblies. The results show an increase in the global competence of pre-service teachers through the critical appreciation of cultural heritage and the understanding of diversity, as well as an attitude change toward literary classics.

From researcher to founder: What really sparks an academic spin-off?

    No full text
Across Europe, academics are increasingly launching spin-off companies based on research once confined to journals. Yet despite the wealth of ideas, few reach the market. Why? The challenge goes beyond funding or business skills. Drawing on data from over 2,000 European academics from 33 countries, this research explores how different University-Business Collaboration dimensions, combined with psychological and sociological factors shape spin-off creation. Findings show that personal confidence and institutional culture are critical drivers. Fostering academic entrepreneurship, therefore, requires supportive environments, positive attitudes toward collaboration, and human-centered strategies to translate knowledge into innovation.Across Europe, academics are increasingly launching spin-off companies based on research once confined to journals. The rising popularity of English Medium Instruction (EMI) in higher education has become a notable global trend. However, there is limited information on what students expect from these programmes. Therefore, this study aims to explore students’ expectations of EMI within a Physical Activity and Sport Sciences degree at a (removed for anonymous issues) public university, the first such programme in (removed for anonymous issues). It also examines the relationship between EMI expectations and students’ profile variables such as gender, accredited and perceived English proficiency, and prior experience in bilingual education. Data was collected from a sample of 109 students using the English Medium Instruction Expectations Scale, which has been validated for reliability and validity. Results showed high expectations for improved job opportunities and linguistic competence, particularly in technical vocabulary and comprehension skills, with lower expectations for written expression. However, students anticipated their academic achievement to be less effective compared to instruction in Spanish. Additionally, female students and those with higher accredited English levels had significantly higher expectations regarding job prospects. In conclusion, this study underscores the importance of understanding students’ expectations of EMI programmes to identify gaps between anticipated and actual experiences, as these mismatches can impact satisfaction and perceptions of the programme effectiveness. The rising popularity of English Medium Instruction (EMI) in higher education has become a notable global trend.

Global Competence, Community Engagement and Housing Insecurity in Los Angeles Latinx Communities: https://doi.org/10.20420/ElGuiniguada.2025.798

This paper examines the development of global competence among university students studying Spanish as a second language through a community-engaged learning (CEL) project that explores the impact of housing insecurity in various communities. The analysis of this progression is realized through activities that structure the educational proposal at three levels: from theory to practice; from individual reflection to dialectical exchange; and from a local approach focused on Latinx communities in Los Angeles to a global one.

This article proposes the existence of an itinerant subject in the construction of identity in Mistral\u27s autobiographical discourse and explores its configuration in Gabriela Mistral, rebelde magnífica (1989), by Matilde Ladrón de Guevara, a foundational work for the processes of demystification of her public and private image. To contribute to the current re-reading of Mistral\u27s work, the term “reconstructed literature”, the notion of traveling identities and some contributions of the theories of the subject and the new Mistralian criticism are used to conclude that the itinerant subject constitutes a discursive resource used by the Chilean Nobel as a resistance to a social order that excludes and stigmatizes gender diversity.
