    No full text
Purpose: The main objective of this work is to evaluate the natural capital and ecosystem services of the Aquidauana River and the role of Lontra longicaudis and Pteronura brasiliensis as environmental assets for the development of conservation tourism. Research Methodology: First, a system diagram was built to organize ideas and relationships between components and resource flows. Second, it was to construct tables of emergy flows directly from the diagrams. Quantities of stored emergy of environmental resources are calculated from the sum of the emergy of all inputs and then multiplied by the time it takes to accumulate the storage. Results: The main services with market values ??provided by the Aquidauana River are water supply, tourism, and fishing. The neotropical otter exhibited the largest asset in the system, followed by the giant otter and the indigenous culture. Limitations: Application of the emergy method to define public policies that lead to the real valuation of environmental assets and promote the social mobilization needed to change adverse realities. Contribution: The giant otter and neotropical otter values represent more than 90% of all values listed as environmental assets in the Aquidauana River System. The results can be important for the definition of public policies aimed at conservation tourism. With an appropriate social mobilization program, associated with economic and environmental education, the local economy could be strengthened, along with the protection of biodiversity

    No full text
Purpose: This study aims to estimate households' willingness to pay (WTP) in the Mekong River Delta for the improvement of solid waste (SW) management and identify factors influencing willingness to pay for the improvement program. Then, based on the results, this research proposed some policy implications for better SW management. Research methodology: The research employed both Contingent Valuation Methodology - CVM employed parametric and non-parametric approaches to estimate WTP and Logit model to identify the determinants of WTP. Results: The results from a random survey of 400 observations from 3 main cities in the Mekong River Delta (MRD)   indicate that households’ willingness to pay level is from 86,000 Vietnamese Dong (VND) to 110,000 VND/month/household for the non-parametric and parametric approach, respectively (US$1 was equal to 22,890 VND on June 30th, 2021). The results also determine the factors influencing the decision to pay for the program, including bid level, households who have already classified waste, households who intend to support the program, and households’ income. Limitations: In future research, survey areas should be expanded to other developing countries in order to compare and provide a base for proposing better waste management programs in developing countries. Contribution: Future studies should apply both approaches to check the consistency of willingness to pay value elicited. Besides, in order to encourage households to participate in the waste classification program, the authorities need to raise awareness and encourage higher-income households to participate in advance

    No full text
Purpose: This study aims to ascertain the impact of political, administrative and financial factors on local participants in Hoima district, Uganda. Research methodology: To ascertain the factors that impact participants in Uganda, a descriptive study was used in which primary data was analysed using descriptive statistics. Results: The factors were identified and clustered into thematic areas; they indicate a cluster of three factors appeared as themes. The results suggest that financial and political challenges are key impediments to effective participation and a good number of the technical personnel were not appointed on the basis of technical know-how. Hoima district needed to intensify its advocacy regarding increased central government transfers as well as the disbursements of more unconditional grants coupled with regular monitoring of its technical personnel. Limitations: The key limitation is the geographical scope since this study covered only one district, implying that the results cannot be generalized for the whole country. Contribution: The results of this are essential to academics in both Public Administration and Policy studies interested in enhancing local democracy and citizen-based governance

Purpose: This paper identifies the impacts of port characteristics and port-logistics integration on port performance in the case of Ethiopian dry ports. Research Methodology: To complete the study, we used structural equation modeling to test the relationship between port characteristics and port-logistics integration with port performance. Moreover, Statistical Package for Social Science is also used to filter indicators. Apart from this, the study was conducted in three dry ports of Ethiopia having a sample of 279 employees. Results: The finding shows that port characteristics such as port infrastructure, port connectivity, and port privatization have significantly impacted port performance. Also, port-logistics integration has an impact on both port operational performance and port efficiency. Limitations: The main limitation is that the study focused only on three dry ports of Ethiopia which do not include other dry ports in the country. Contribution: Ethiopia suffered forced dependency on transit countries after a blooded war with Eritrea which resulted in customs delays at port. To reduce this, the study suggests that Ethiopia should coordinate in developing joint infrastructures, and formulating unfettered rules and regulations with its transit countries

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the reproductive traits of rabbit fed varying levels of Ipomea asarifolia leaf meal in the semi-arid zone of Nigeria. Research methodology: Fourty (40) nulliparous composite grower rabbits of 10 - 12 weeks with an average body weight of 1,320 g + 20 g were used for the study. The rabbits were allocated to five dietary treatments. The research used a Completely Randomized Design in allocating the experimental animals with eight rabbits in each treatment. Results: The results obtained in this study indicated that inclusion Ipomoea asarifolia leaf meal at 10% in rabbits' diet had a negative effect as it increased the gestation length. Rabbits fed a 7.5% IALM based diet yielded the best results on litter size (LS) and conception rate (CR). The post-partum performance revealed that kittens on treatment three (5% IALM) performed better in weight at day 7 (61.47 g) and day 21 (235.33 g), respectively. Whereas kittens in treatment five (10% IALM) were reported with the highest daily weight gain (10.09 g) and pre-weaning mortality (38.84%). Does fed 10% IALM based diet performed better (720.10 g) in milk yield. The results of the morphometric traits were mostly not affected by an increased level of MGLM except for tail length (TL), length of the front leg (LFL), and shoulder to tail drop (STT) that have the highest value in rabbits fed 5% MGLM based diet, and nose to shoulder (NTS) and length of the back leg (LBL) that had highest figures in rabbits fed 10% MGLM. Limitations: This research only focused on the effect of the test material on reproductive traits and body Morphometry, yet there might be an effect on blood parameters and serum hormones concentration. Contribution: This research will help the farmers involved in Animal production
