Level of cultural sensitivity and its influence on teachers’ performance
Purpose: The primary goal of this study was to analyze the level of cultural sensitivity and its impact on the performance of secondary school teachers in Buayan District, Division of General Santos City. This study attempted to identify correlations between cultural sensitivity and secondary teacher performance.
Research methodology: The research design of this study was descriptive-correlative. Since the design is descriptive, it provides a full discussion and explanation of teachers' cultural sensitivity and its impact on their performance. Furthermore, the study's methodology aimed to identify significant correlations between the variables under investigation. The mean and Pearson product-moment correlations were the statistical measures employed to evaluate the hypotheses.
Results: The findings revealed a significant, moderate, and direct relationship between cultural sensitivity and teacher performance. Consequently, strengthening teachers' cultural sensitivity may improve their performance.
Limitations: This study was limited to three (3) Buayan District Public Secondary Schools. The variables under consideration were narrowed down because cultural sensitivity is only concerned with the value system, belief system, decision making, and cross-cultural communication. On the other hand, teachers’ performance variables focused only on the teaching and learning processes, student outcomes, and community involvement.
Contribution: The findings of this study provide information on teachers' levels of cultural sensitivity as a foundation for improving their performance and developing a curriculum for teaching in various cultures.
Novelty: This study's originality focuses on its factors, which integrate cultural sensitivity and teachers’ performance. This research aids in determining the impact of teachers' cultural sensitivity on their performance
Assessment of profitability and efficiency analysis of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) value chain in Yobe State, Nigeria
Purpose: An imperative step in enhancing investment returns for watermelon producers and marketers is to comprehensively analyze the watermelon value chain. This evaluation was recently conducted in Yobe State, Nigeria, during the period spanning from July to August 2023.
Research methodology: The data acquisition process involved the administration of a questionnaire that facilitated the gathering of information from 540 participants across various roles within the value chain, encompassing producers, wholesalers, and retailers operating within the study's geographic scope.
Results: The findings of this investigation illuminate the prevalent utilization of urban marketing channels by watermelon marketers, and it is noteworthy that approximately half of these marketers engage in their marketing endeavors within urban markets such as Kano, Kaduna, and Abuja. Notably, the study underscores the substantial impact of transportation costs on both the pricing and net marketing returns associated with watermelons. A significant proportion of these marketers were motivated primarily by the pursuit of sustainable livelihoods, while the allure of profitability drove others. However, a critical challenge encountered in the watermelon marketing domain pertains to the accessibility of credit facilities, which affects nearly 90% of the stakeholders involved in the value chain. Additionally, other constraints exerted relatively minor effects on marketers' activities and outcomes.
Limitations: This study was limited to data from 460 participants involved in various stages of the watermelon value chain in the study area from July to August 2023.
Contribution: This study can aid different actors in the watermelon value chain when making investment decisions
Sustainable tourism from the perspective of tourists in Nganjuk Indonesia
Purpose: This study aims to analyze tourists' perspectives regarding the sustainability of four tourism destinations, namely Sedudo Waterfall, Roro Kuning, TRAL, and Margo Tresno Cave in Nganjuk East Java, Indonesia. Moreover, this study attempts to reveal tourists' sustainability awareness based on the triplebottom-line concept and which dimensions are considered the most important for tourists.
Research Methodology: Data were obtained from a survey of visitors (16 years old and over) to the four tourist objects in Nganjuk. Furthermore, this study utilized Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and ANOVA tests to evaluate the differences between types of tourists and their views on sustainability.
Results: The number of types of tourists found in the Nganjuk tourist destination was change, amusement, rupture, interest, and dedication. The ANOVA test results show a different tourist perception of sustainability issues from the five types of tourists in Nganjuk.
Limitations: This study involved only young respondents who did not consider tourists beyond a young age. In addition, this study focused only on one regency in Indonesia.
Contributions: To create a tourism industry that can last and protect the environment, the vital role of tourists cannot be ignored. This research makes a theoretical contribution by expanding the theory to explain aspects that have never been studied before regarding tourists' understanding of the sustainability issue in the tourism sector.
Novelty: This study is one of the first to discuss tourists' perceptions of sustainability issues in the Indonesian context
Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on survival of MSMEs in Zimbabwe
Purpose: This study aimed to assess the impact of COVID-19 and its associated lockdowns on the survival of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Zimbabwe, where more than 60 percent of economic activity is conducted through MSMEs.
Research methodology: This study was conducted through an online survey of 447 individuals representing MSMEs operating in Zimbabwe. Data were analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), guided by a binary logistic regression model, to assess the impact of COVID-19 on the survival of MSMEs in Zimbabwe.
Results: The model showed that the independent variables had a significant impact on the survival of MSMEs, with an overall accuracy of 87.9% in predicting the effects of COVID-19 on the survival of MSMEs. The study concluded that many MSMEs in Zimbabwe were negatively affected by the COVID-19 lockdown, except for those in strategic economic sectors that were not required to close their operations during the lockdowns.
Limitations: The major limitation of the study was the low response rate of MSMEs operators from remote areas who could not respond to the online survey because of the nature of their business operations, which is survivalistic in nature and would not afford them time to respond to the survey.
Contribution: The study recommends the provision of financial rescue packages by the government, development partners, civic organizations, and government policy realignment to ensure that MSMEs are resuscitated after lockdowns have been lifted.
Novelty: This study contributes to the post-COVID-19 discourse, as global economies are rebuilding after the relaxation of COVID-19 related business operation restrictions. This is more important for developing countries that are most negatively affected and require their economies to recover from COVID-19 related economic depression
Assessing Media and Security Agencies Relationship in Governance of Niger Delta, Nigeria
Purpose: This work is an assessment of the relationship between media and security agencies in the Niger Delta region, Nigeria. The objectives were to assess reasons for frequent clashes between media and security agencies against press freedom while also suggesting measures of reducing face-offs.
Research methodology: The research was a thorough opinion survey of 19,215,351 persons through a sample size of 400 persons in four states of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The states taken were Akwa Ibom, Delta, Cross River, and Rivers states. 400 questionnaires were distributed to residents for answers on the variables of the research. The social responsibility and media authoritarian theories were adopted in a theoretical framework.
Results: The collated data from 375 persons representing 94 % against 25 persons or 6%, shows that the clash between media and the security agencies was very regular as security agencies noticeably enforce fear and intimidation at events.
Limitations: The study was limited to only four states of Akwa Ibom, Delta, Cross River, and Rivers states out of nine states that make up the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Contribution: The media and the security agencies should maintain practitioners’ regular training to keep abreast of democratic human rights and ethics in the discharge of duties. The present study will also theoretically contribute to the academic and theoretical richness as well as promote the culture and literature of social responsibility in the field of communication, governance, social civic service, and especially in the field of media literacy. It has effective significance and requisites
Determinants of Saving Decisions at Indonesian Islamic Banks During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Purpose: This study aims to determine the characteristics and factors influencing the decision to save at Islamic banks, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Research methodology: The sample used in this study amounted to 400 participants, which were collected by online questionnaire. A logistic regression was also employed to estimate the influence of independent variables on the saving decisions of customers. This was accompanied by the implementation of descriptive analysis, to determine the characteristics of Islamic bank customers during the pandemic.
Results: The characteristics of the participants were dominated by people aged 17-25, with the majority of them residing in West Java and working as a student. Besides this, data were also analyzed by using logistic regression analysis. Based on the results, several factors influenced the saving decisions of Islamic bank customers. In this case, evaluation and strategy were carried out to increase customer interest through knowledge of the types and benefits of Islamic savings.
Limitations: This study was limited to the analysis of the factors influencing the saving decisions of Islamic bank customers during COVID-19. The contribution derived was also related to the saving demands of customers in Islamic banking.
Contribution: The results highlighted the characteristics of Islamic bank customers during the pandemic, as reference material for banking managers to increase interest in their financial products.
Originality: Based on the logistic regression, religiosity, knowledge, promotion, location, and age positively/significantly affected saving decisions at Islamic banks during the COVID-19 pandemic. This indicated that Islamic banking was not stuck in the market segment of the Muslim community, regarding the promotion of their products. In addition, promotion quality should be essentially improved, accompanied by the maintenance of business ethics and image as an Islamic bank
Effect of Board Characteristics on Financial Performance of Listed Healthcare Firms in Nigeria
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between board characteristics and the financial performance of listed healthcare firms in Nigeria.
Research methodology: The study, which covered a seven-year period from 2015-2021, made use of secondary data sourced from published annual reports and accounts of five purposively selected companies on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Data analysis was done by means of descriptive statistics, a correlation matrix, and some diagnostic tests using STATA 13.
Results: The findings show that board characteristics consisting of board size, board independence, board gender diversity, and board meetings have a negative, non-significant relationship with performance. This study concludes that board size should be increased, the number of non-executive members of the board should be increased with members having vast knowledge and competency in governance, the number of women on the board should be increased, and frequent and necessary board meetings should be encouraged and possibly regulated in order not to create room for waste of resources and time.
Limitations: The study’s main limitations are that it did not use other financial-based measurements for financial performance, used incomplete data, and used a small sample size.
Contribution: The results of the study, based on the findings, will assist firms in the recommendation of the board size number and how its effectiveness should be increased and sustained. The study also contributes to other extant literature, as not many studies have been conducted in this area of the healthcare firms listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange
SGI Canada Educators' Perspectives on Creating Value in the Teaching and Learning Environment
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the perspectives and experiences of educators who practice Soka (value-creating) pedagogy in their teaching and learning environment.
Methodology: The participants were educators who were teaching, or had taught, in a formal public or private education system in Canada and were also affiliated with the Soka Gakkai International Association of Canada Educators Group. An online survey was distributed to the educators describing the study and requesting their participation in a semi-structured interview. Fourteen survey respondents were chosen for an interview.
Results: The study’s findings revealed important themes concerning how Soka education positively influenced the educators’ relationships with their students, how teachers structured their teaching and learning environment, how teachers perceived their role as educators, and how the teachers’ Buddhist spiritual practice inspired and guided their application of Soka education.
Limitations: The findings are best interpreted within the study’s limitation of selecting participants from a teacher population that would likely perceive Soka education in a largely favorable light.
Contribution: Our research poses potential inquiries for further study, given the novelty of the finding that identified how teachers used their Buddhist practice to inspire and advance their teaching. This aspect of teaching practice is not widely represented to date in the Soka education discourse and may have implications for future investigation

Limitations: This research is limited to the specific scope of taxes selected and does not cover all other types of taxes and levies.
Contributions: This study's ability to predict the future helps make plans for regional tax revenue, especially when it comes to planning for policies that might change in the near future.
Novelty: This research is new because it has a new update on how to use predictive methods with Minitab and an analysis of how local taxes have changed over time
Implementation of Law Number 14 of 2008 on Public Information Transparency in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI)
Purpose: The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR-RI) is an institution that is mandated and represents the voice of the people who have directly voted through general elections. This representation function can be effective and have a real impact if the DPR is open to providing information to the public. However, in reality, the parliament's commitment to public information disclosure is still questioned by many elements of society. Many incidents have caused the public to doubt the DPR's commitment to public information disclosure, such as information and documents related to the revision of the KPK Law, the Omnibus Law Bill, and the Job Creation Bill, among others. This study aims to analyze the implementation of public information disclosure policies in the DPR-RI.
Methodology: The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, where primary and secondary data are obtained through in-depth interviews with predetermined key informants and literature studies related to the research topic.
Result: The research findings indicate that the implementation of the Public Information Disclosure Law in the DPR-RI is still not optimal, particularly in the utilization of information disclosure media and information resources.
Contribution: This research will contribute to expanding theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the implementation of public information disclosure policies in legislative institutions as part of communication policy studies
