Government Covid-19 Stimulus Package, Smes' Awareness, Accessibility, and Challenges in Cape Coast
Purpose: This is to analyze the level of knowledge of the government's COVID-19 stimulus package among SMEs in the Cape Coast Metropolitan area.
Research methodology: Quantitative and descriptive approaches were used in the investigation. Purposive sampling was used to sample 234 SMEs; a structured questionnaire was used to gather data; descriptive and inferential statistics were used; and SPSS version 20 was used to enter, transform, and analyze the data.
Results: The result indicates SMEs have a poor level of awareness. The SMEs have a low level of access, and it was also discovered that the SMEs confront numerous problems in obtaining packages, particularly when political affiliation is taken into account.
Limitations: The study was small and focused on a single urban area. Since the pandemic is still with us and has a significant impact on commercial transactions, more research should be undertaken in a large study region.
Contribution: The theory clearly shows why, for SMEs to develop and the sector to perform in support of any country's economy during a pandemic like COVID-19, the government, as the controller of money and other resources, needs to provide the necessary financial package, whether implicit or explicit, to oil a crumbling sector due to the pandemic
E-learning Portal Success in higher education organizations: A multi-group comparison
Purpose: This study provides an analytical framework based on the literature to evaluate the effectiveness of E-learning portals. The study aims to contrast the accessibility of e-learning portals from the perspectives of business and engineering students.
Research methodology: Using convenience and snowball sampling methods with the help of Google polls, the data was acquired from 482 students, including engineering and business students. The study used a seven-point Likert-type questionnaire to gather data. The study employed PLS-SEM to do a multi-group analysis and examine group differences.
Results: The results revealed user satisfaction predicts the system used for both models. Only e-service quality is the significant predictor of user satisfaction and the system used in the business model, but the system and information qualities are also predictors in the engineering model. Finally, the success of an e-learning portal is positively correlated with user satisfaction and system use.
Limitations: This study consists of only a sample of 482 students. Future research may take into account using a bigger sample size. Additionally, this study mostly focused on how students perceived the efficacy of the e-learning portal while ignoring the viewpoints of the instructors and the institution, which may vary.
Contribution: Higher administration in Bangladeshi educational institutions will find the study helpful in building policies and plans for the growth of e-learning portals.
Novelty: This work validates the DeLone and McLean Model in the context of Bangladeshi undergraduate students. The study shows how business and engineering students' access to e-learning portals varies
Beyond assessments: Exploring strategies for Afro-Descendant students’ success in Costa Rica
Purpose: This research aims to critically analyze the potential ramifications of comprehensive assessments on marginalized communities, with a specific focus on Afro-descendant students in the Caribbean/Atlantic region of Costa Rica. It intends to identify the potential effects of these assessments and propose policy and practice adjustments that can enhance their educational outcomes.
Research methodology: This research analyzes the recent assessment requirements and the historical background of educational assessments in Costa Rica and explores alternative teaching methods, including culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) and the impact of the dialect and language continuum. Furthermore, the potential benefits of integrating the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy into the curriculum of all public schools are also investigated.
Results: Based on the analysis conducted, recommendations for policy and practice changes to address the potential impact of assessments on Afro-descendant students include creating a culturally responsive curriculum, recognizing non-standard dialects, using alternative assessment approaches, and emphasizing consideration of marginalized communities' needs and experiences in educational policy and practice decisions.
Limitations: This review does not provide an empirical investigation but rather synthesizes existing literature and provides recommendations for future research.
Contribution: This research significantly contributes to the existing literature on educational policy and practice in marginalized communities, particularly in relation to students of African descent in Costa Rica and suggests ways to improve their educational outcomes. Its insight can be of interest to policymakers, educators, and future researchers in education and social justice
Democracy in Jeopardy: An Analysis of the Prospects of Opposition Political Parties in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic
Purpose: Opposition political parties are generally believed to be weak in Africa and particularly in Nigeria. Despite their centrality to the democratic consolidation, opposition parties are not performing the critical role as watchdogs to the ruling party partly because of their sizes or fragmentations. This study examined the role of the ruling political party in Nigeria and, by extension, the Nigerian government in making opposition parties be perpetually weak to ensure its hold on power.
Research methodology: The study employed qualitative data in carrying out the research.
Results: From the contextual analysis of the literature reviewed, the study discovered that weak political institutions and a lack of political will are largely at the heart of the problem in Nigeria.
Recommendations: It posited that transparency and political will on the part of the ruling party and the government will create a level playing field for all political parties to thrive
Implementation of public information disclosure policy in the house of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia
Purpose: This study aims to identify how the implementation of the public information disclosure policy in the House of Representatives (DPR) in 2019-2021 is going and to find the right strategies to be implemented so that the DPR can become an informative public body.
Research methodology: This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach, where primary and secondary data are obtained through in-depth interviews with predetermined key informants, field observations, and literature studies relevant to the research topic.
Results: The findings show that the implementation of public information disclosure policy in Parliament is still not optimal due to various obstacles in the process of documenting, classifying, managing, and serving public information that are technical, administrative, bureaucratic, and political in nature. DPR needs to start building and developing an internal big data system that is connected to real time public information management and service applications. In addition, the active role of Members and factions in the House in providing public information is also important to support the successful implementation of public information disclosure in the House
The growth of SMEs amid the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana
Purpose: This study aimed to determine how Ghana's small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) performed in terms of growth during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Research Methodology: This study adopted a quantitative research method, alongside descriptive and explanatory research designs. Primary data were gathered from 400 SMEs in the general trading and manufacturing industries. Descriptive statistical analyses and Pearson multiple regression analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSvs.26) and XL Stats.
Results: The most critical challenges faced by SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic include a decrease in sales revenue, followed by the inability of SMEs to pay staff, retrenchment of workers, shortages of raw materials, halted operations, difficulty in supplying goods and services, inability to repay loans, insufficient capital, cash flow shortages, accounting deficiencies, and the least critical challenge associated with a lack of advanced technology. The next major finding was that lockdowns, movement restrictions, social distancing, and market closures had significant negative effects on SMEs’ growth.
Limitations: Varied responses from SMEs in other regions and industries in the country were not gathered. Furthermore, the research instrument ignored the direct views of SME owners and managers regarding the challenges they encountered.
Contributions: The findings are important for entrepreneurs and managers of SMEs, financial institutions, government, and other stakeholders for decision-making purposes.
Novelty: The effect of the pandemic has mostly been linked to financial performance. No study in the Ghanaian context has investigated the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the growth of trading and manufacturing SMEs
The effect of debt attitude and peer influence on debt behavior
Purpose: This study examined the effect of debt attitude and peer influence on the debt behavior of paylater users by the millennial generation.
Research methodology: This study used a quantitative approach. The research method used in this study is a survey method. The instrument was a questionnaire made with Google Forms. The analysis method used in this research is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), with Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis technique using SmartPLS 3. The population was working millennials in Indonesia. Samples were chosen using a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling method so that the total sample size was 100 people.
Results: The results of this study proved that debt attitude had a significant effect on the debt behavior of paylater users of the millennial generation. However, peer influence had no significant effect on the debt behavior of paylater users by the millennial generation.
Limitations: This study is limited to a few factors: debt attitude and peer influence. Moreover, this study only collects data from the junior millennial generation in Indonesia, which
results in narrowing this study.
Contribution: The information provided by this study can help authorities identify the determinants of debt behavior and address the rising debt levels
Operating Carbon-Neutral Tourism: Systematic Review & Bibliometric Analysis
Purpose: The primary goal is to identify the existing knowledge on carbon-neutral tourism gained from 2005 to 2023.
Research Methodology: To accomplish the research purpose, a systematic literature review (SLR) approach and preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines were used to address the research objective. Through methodical literature research, bibliometric analysis, and the use of the VOS viewer software, all chosen papers were thoroughly reviewed, summarized, and synthesized.
Results: Combining The Google Scholar, Emerald Insight, and Lens.ORG databases resulted in 43 articles. An increasing variety of tourism destinations are planning to become "carbon neutral" as pressure on the tourism industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions grows. This is because tourism is now widely acknowledged as a significant contributor to global climate change due to the significant greenhouse gas emissions associated with air travel. Overlay visualization shows that there has been a high demand for carbon-neutral tourism since 2021.
Contributions: They want to minimize their impact on global warming while simultaneously expanding their tourism industries by enhancing their reputation as green, environmentally conscious, and sustainable destinations
