    Gender roles in tourism development in East Nusa Tenggara -Timor Leste border

    Purpose: This research explores the challenges and opportunities of integrating a gender perspective into tourism development in the border regions of East Nusa Tenggara (ENT) and Timor Leste. Research Methodology: Using a qualitative approach, this study collected data through literature reviews and stakeholder interviews. Results: The analysis revealed that women face various obstacles to tourism sector development, such as limited access to capital, unequal job opportunities, and societal gender stereotypes. Despite these challenges, there are significant opportunities for women to enhance their participation in the tourism industry, potentially leading to increased wellbeing. Limitations: This study acknowledges limitations, including the scope of qualitative research and the challenges in generalizing findings to broader contexts beyond ENT and Timor Leste. Contributions: Based on these findings, this research proposes tourism development strategies focusing on inclusive gender vocational training programs; enhanced collaboration among government, private sector, and educational institutions; and promoting women's leadership and decision-making roles in tourism management. Novelty: This study highlights the potential for more inclusive tourism development in the ENT-Timor Leste border region, with the aim of providing economic benefits to local communities

    Purpose: The purpose of this systematic literature review is to investigate the evolution of project management worldwide from 2018 to 2023, focusing on the integration of modern project management approaches and the challenges faced in the context of Industry 4.0. The review aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice in project management within the Indonesian landscape. Research methodology: A structured search was conducted through the Scopus platform, with inclusion and exclusion criteria applied to ensure relevance to the topic. The methodology involved evaluating articles for quality and relevance, extracting key information, and systematically organizing data for analysis. The review followed the PRISMA guidelines to ensure a rigorous and transparent approach. Results: The review revealed a growing need for adaptive project management practices in response to technological advancements and cultural nuances. Key findings include the importance of organizational culture, the role of authentic leadership, and the challenges of implementing sustainable community development. The study also highlighted the potential impact of Generation Z on the economic and political landscape. Limitations: The confinement of the literature search to articles from accredited international journals accessed through Google Scholar and categorized from Scopus 1 to Scopus 4, which may have excluded relevant studies. Additionally, the practical application of these insights in real-world settings was not extensively explored.   Contribution:  This review contributes to a deeper understanding of project management in Indonesia, offering insights into the challenges and opportunities within the field. It provides a foundation for future research and improved practices, emphasizing the need for project management professionals and scholars in Indonesia to explore innovative approaches and remain agile in the face of change

    Effect of real earnings management on tax planning of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria

    Purpose: This study examines the effect of real earnings management on corporate tax planning of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Method: The study used secondary data of 41 listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria extracted from the annual reports and accounts of the sampled firms for the period 2012 to 2022. The data collected for the study were statistically analyzed using dynamic panel data from the generalized moment method (GMM). Results: The study found that abnormal production has positive and significant effect on tax planning, the study also revealed that abnormal discretionary expense has positive and significant effect on tax planning. The study also documents a positive and significant influence of abnormal production on tax planning. The study also reveals that real earnings management has a positive and significant impact on tax planning. Limitations: The study is limited to real earnings management and tax planning; it is limited to 41 listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria and covers  12 years,  from 2012 to 2022.   Contribution:  This study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the relationship between real earnings management and tax planning, specifically within the context of Nigerian manufacturing firms. The findings will inform policymakers and regulatory bodies regarding the effectiveness of current tax regulations and practices in Nigeria's manufacturing sector. Novelty: This study's focus on Nigerian manufacturing firms adds a novel dimension to the existing literature, as there may be unique factors and challenges specific to this context. In addition, the study provides a novel approach by employing dynamic panel data of GMM

    Purpose: The aim of this research is to determine the influence of Competency, Independence and Discipline on Job Satisfaction and Performance, the influence of Job Satisfaction on Performance, the influence of Competency, Independence and Discipline on Performance with Job Satisfaction as an intervening variable in the APIP Regional Inspectorate in the Riau Islands Province. Research Methodology: Data collection techniques are through questionnaires, observation and documentation, with data analysis techniques using path analysis and hypothesis testing. Results: The research results show that: Competence (X1) Independence (X2) and Discipline (X3) have a direct and significant influence on Job Satisfaction (Z) and Performance. Job Satisfaction has a direct influence on Performance, and Competence (X1) Independence (X2 and Discipline (X3) ) has an indirect and significant indirect influence on Performance (Y) with Job Satisfaction (Z) as an intervening variable in APIP Regional Inspectorates throughout Riau Islands Province

    Purpose: Knowing the influence of work motivation and the work environment simultaneously on the performance of employees of the National Unity and Political Agency of Bandar Lampung City, (2) Knowing the influence of work motivation partially on the performance of employees of the National Unity and Politics Agency of Bandar Lampung City and (3) Knowing the influence of the work environment partially on the performance of employees of the National Unity and Political Agency of Bandar Lampung City. Research Methodology: The technique used in this research was a saturated sampling method and data collection techniques by distributing questionnaires in the form of a Google Form link to 31 narasumberts. The variables in this research are 2 (two) independent variables and 1 (one) dependent variable where Motivation (X1), Work Environment (X2) are the independent variables and employee performance (Y) is the dependent variable. Results: Based on data analysis, a hypothesis answer was found which states that Motivation and Work Environment simultaneously and partially have a significant effect on the performance of employees at the National Unity and Political Agency of Bandar Lampung City. Limitations: There were several limitations during the preparation of this research, namely the independent variables used were only motivation and work environment. This research was only carried out at the Bandar Lampung City National and Political Unity Agency. Contribution: Optimizing employee performance can be done through the participation of the Bandar Lampung City National and Political Unity Agency to continue to provide work motivation to existing employees who need to maintain and improve the working environment to make it more conducive and comfortable.  In the future, other researchers are expected to be able to develop the variables and samples to be studied so that the research will be broader and deeper

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the satisfaction of retired participants in Taspen in the Tanjungpinang city area. Methodology: This study uses the variables of service quality, use of management information systems, and communication on participant satisfaction through trust. The study population included retired participants in the Taspen, Tanjungpinang city area. Meanwhile, the sample used in this study included as many as 150 people from the population. Data were collected using the questionnaire method by providing a list of questions or questionnaires directly to respondents. In this study, the researcher used SPSS ver.23 and SEM-PLS version 4 data processing. Results: This study shows that Service Quality (X1) directly has a positive and significant effect on trust (Z) with P-Value by 0.001 < 0.05, the Utilization of Management Information System (X2) directly has a positive and insignificant effect on trust (Z) with P-Value by 0.108 > 0.05, Communication (X3) directly has a positive and significant effect on trust (Z) with P-Value by 0.000 < 0.05, Service Quality (X1) directly has a positive and insignificant effect on satisfaction (Y) with P-Value by 0.063 > 0.05, the Utilization of Management Information System (X2) directly has a positive and significant effect on satisfaction (Y) with P-Value by 0.000 < 0.05, Communication (X3) directly has a positive and insignificant effect on satisfaction (Y) with P-Value by 0.327 > 0.05, trust (Z) directly has a positive and significant effect on satisfaction (Y) with P-Value by 0.031 < 0.05, the service quality variable (X1) mediates trust (Z) on participant satisfaction (Y) with P-Value by 1.978 > 1.540, the variable Utilization of Management Information System (X2) does not mediate trust (Z) on participant satisfaction (Y) with P-Value by 0.887 < 17.324, the Communication variable (X3) does not mediate the trust (Z) on participant satisfaction (Y) with P-Value by 0.1.501 > 0.450. The R-squared value for the confidence variable (Z) was 0.528 (52.8%), while the remaining 47.2% was explained by other variables outside the model. The R-squared value of the satisfaction variable (Y) was 0.489 (48.9%), while the remaining 51.1% indicated that Z had a mediating effect between X1, X2, and X3 on participant satisfaction (Y)

    Leadership, proactive behavior and innovative work behaviors of teachers in Barkin-Ladi

    Purpose: This study examines the effects of leadership styles and proactive behavior on the innovative work behaviors of private school teachers in Barkin, Ladi, and Plateau states. Research Methodology: The study drew a sample of private schoolteachers in Barkin-ladi using a quota sampling technique. The sample numbered 201, being male (82) and female (119), between the ages of 15 and 64 years, with different levels of educational qualification. The scales deployed in measuring innovative work behaviour, proactive behavior, and leadership styles were already standardized scales that were designed to measure the constructs in school settings. Results: The study found that the sampled teachers exhibited all leadership styles: transformational, transactional, and laissez. Leadership styles and proactive work behavior had a significant effect on teachers’ innovative work behaviors. There was no significant interaction effect between leadership style and proactive work behavior on innovative work behavior. Limitations: The sample size of this study was limited because the actual population was uncertain. Contribution: This study shows that transformational and transactional leadership styles, as well as proactive work behaviors, are important to provoke teachers’ innovative work behaviors in private schools in Barkin-ladi. Novelty: The study has been able to show the teacher plays the role of the leader in the class and his innovative teaching behaviour is provoked by proactive behaviours and transformational/transactional leadership styles

    First and second-generation commercial banks in Bangladesh: A comparative financial analysis

    Purpose: This study assesses the overall performance of commercial banks in Bangladesh by classifying them into first- and second-generation groups. Research Methodology: The investigation encompassed secondary data from 2016 to 2020, along with a meticulous examination of the ratios of ten banks during that timeframe. Standard software such as the Microsoft Office package was utilized for conducting horizontal, vertical, and rational analyses. Return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), and net profit margins are the primary metrics used to assess overall performance. Results: Research indicates that the first generation excels in certain instances, while the second generation performs at its peak capacity in other cases. Therefore, a comprehensive outcome exists. Implications: These indicators offer a concise and influential message to all stakeholders that may shape their decision-making process. Limitations: It may be beneficial to consider a longer timeframe and gather insights from interviews with industry professionals for subsequent studies. Other factors to consider include customer insights, industry conditions, the nation's economy, monetary policy, and the global trade situation. Novelty: This study focuses on the influence of employee retention on organizational performance in a service-oriented government institution

    Purpose: This study explores the symbiotic relationship between entrepreneurship and digitalization in Society 5.0, emphasizing the pivotal role of entrepreneurs in navigating and leveraging digital technologies to foster innovation and propel economic development. Research Methodology:  This study uses quantitative methods to explore entrepreneurship in the era of Society 5.0, focusing on digitalization for innovation and growth. The population comprises entrepreneurs in Indonesia who use digital technology in their business. The sample comprised of 200 purposively selected entrepreneurs. Data were collected using an online questionnaire on the use of digital technology, innovation, and business growth. Data analysis, including validation, descriptive analysis, and SEM-PLS, was conducted using Smart PLS. The results are expected to provide insights into digital strategies for business innovation and growth. Results: The results highlight how entrepreneurs can leverage digital technologies, such as AI, IoT, and big data, to develop innovative products, improve operational efficiency, expand markets, and make better decisions. The benefits include global market access, improved customer experience, and better business sustainability. This makes entrepreneurs more competitive and responsive to market change. Limitations: Today's entrepreneurship faces limitations, such as technology dependence, adaptation difficulties, data security risks, and the digital divide. Entrepreneurs also encounter global competition, changing regulations, a lack of digital skills, poor technology infrastructure, and funding difficulties. Overcoming these challenges requires support from the government, the private sector, and educational institutions. Contributions: This research helps institutions develop digital policies and training programs, adds to the global literature on entrepreneurship in the Society 5.0, provides digital strategies for management, and improves entrepreneurs' competencies in utilizing digital technologies. It provides practical guidance to support business innovation and growth in the digital age

    The effect of e-assessment on performance, competency, worklife balance, and motivation on civil servant performance

    Purpose: Lousy work by employees often leads to undesirable situations in bureaucracy. This study aims to assess the performance of civil servants employed by the Serdang Bedagai district administration regarding competency, work-life balance, motivation at work, and e-performance evaluation. Research methodology: The data gathering process involves the application of quantitative approaches. Results: The research findings show that the implementation of e-performance evaluation has a positive and significant impact on the performance of civil servants in the Serdang Bedagai Regency Government, with a significance level of 0.002 < 0.05. Additionally, competency had a positive and significant effect on the performance of civil servant employees in the Serdang Bedagai Regency Government, with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. Work-life balance positively and significantly affects civil servant performance in the Serdang Bedagai Regency Government, with a significance threshold of 0.020 < 0.05. Similarly, work motivation positively and significantly affects government officials' performance in the Serdang Bedagai Regency Government, at a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. The concurrent implementation of e-performance evaluation, competency, work-life balance, and work motivation has been found to significantly impact the performance of civil servant personnel in the Serdang Bedagai Regency Government, with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. Limitations: The research problem only focuses on four variables; therefore, expanding the research to other variables is necessary.   Contribution:  This research will provide evidence that several sectors must be considered in government bureaucracy.
