Self-censorship in using social media in Bangladesh: Does regime structure matter?
influences social media users' self-censorship by examining how repression, legal frameworks, surveillance, and media control affect online expression and free speech.
Method: This study on self-censorship in Bangladesh used interviews, content analysis, focus groups, and surveys to understand users' online behavior under a hybrid regime. The results showed that laws such as the Digital Security Act increased self-regulation.
Results: The study revealed that regime structure significantly impacts self-censorship on social media in Bangladesh. Democratic environments reduce self-censorship, whereas restrictive regimes increase it. Higher educational levels are associated with greater self-censorship, likely due to heightened awareness of the consequences. Gender and government actions had a minimal impact. An interaction effect demonstrates that a "climate of fear" combined with critical content intensifies self-censorship, emphasizing the role of regime type and freedom of expression in shaping online behavior.
Limitations: The study on self-censorship in Bangladesh has limitations, including sample bias, potential inaccuracies due to self-reporting, overlooking regional variations, and cultural factors, which affect the generalizability of findings across different contexts.
Contributions: This study provides valuable insights into how the regime structure influences self-censorship on social media in Bangladesh. By highlighting the correlation between authoritarian tendencies and increased self-censorship, this study elucidates the impact of laws such as the Digital Security Act on online behavior. The findings contribute to understanding the broader effects of political regimes on digital expression, offering a framework for examining self-censorship in varying political contexts, and informing future research on digital rights and freedom of expression
Determinants of brain drain in Nigeria: Does financial inclusion matter?
Purpose: Nigeria has witnessed a substantial emigration of educated and skilled workers to other countries in the quest for greener pastures. Developing nations, such as Nigeria, with a recognizable number of highly educated and skilled individuals with an attitude to work to earn a living, are potentially exposed to brain drain syndrome, which is inimical to economic prosperity struggles. Hence, this study investigated whether financial inclusion is a determinant of brain drain in Nigeria.
Method: Quantitative methods were used in this study, employing ARDL-ECM regression to analyze both short- and long-run relationships among the variables. Data were collected from the International Monetary Fund, Nigeria Bureau of Statistics, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (2003–2022).
Results: The study established that Gross Domestic Product per Capita, ATMs per 100,000 Adults, Deposits with Commercial Banks % to GDP and Political Stability have a negative relationship with Brain Drain in Nigeria, whereas unemployment, bank credit to the private sector, and government efficiency have a positive relationship with brain drain.
Limitations: The study was limited to Nigeria, and the findings may not be generalizable to other countries.
Contributions: This study contributes to the field of finance in terms of financial inclusion matters and to the Nigerian government by identifying the determinants of brain drain in Nigeria.
Novelty: This study added financial inclusion as a determinant of brain drain in Nigeria, which other existing studies have not covered

Indonesian Hajj Diplomacy To Increase Hajj Quota During The Joko Widodo Presidency: 2015-2023
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the forms of Hajj diplomacy carried out by the Indonesian government to overcome the long waiting period for Hajj pilgrims.
Research methodology: This study used a qualitative research method that utilizes secondary data as the data source. The secondary data mostly refer to various publications, such as books, journals, news, archives, social media, the official website of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, and other sources that are factual and relevant to the topic.
Results: The Indonesian government uses two tracks of diplomacy in Hajj affairs. The first track of diplomacy is bilateral relations with the Saudi Arabian government, either through meetings between the heads of the state or meetings with other relevant stakeholders. Meanwhile, the second track diplomacy is through the relationship between Indonesian non-governmental actors such as Indonesian Hajj and Umrah travel entrepreneurs with the Saudi Arabian authorities to obtain non-governmental Hajj quotas or commonly referred to as Hajj Furoda from the Saudi Arabian government.
Limitations: This study focused only on the years 2015-2023. It also relies on secondary data that may not provide a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics and processes underlying Indonesia's Hajj diplomacy. Furthermore, this study only explores one non-state actor involved in Hajj diplomacy, namely, Hajj and Umrah travel entrepreneurs.
Contributions: This study provides valuable insights and recommendations to policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders regarding the dynamics of Indonesia's Hajj diplomacy and its impact on international relations
Constitutional Court Decree No 90/Puu-XII/2023 Provisions on Age Requirements for Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates in the Principles of the State of Law and Pancasila Democracy
Purpose: This study aimed to determine whether Constitutional Court Decision Number 90/PUU-XII/2023 concerning the Age Requirements for Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates is in accordance with the principles of the rule of law and Pancasila democracy.
Method: This article was prepared using normative juridical research methods with statutory, case, and conceptual approaches. In this approach, several primary legal materials are used, namely statutory regulations that are relevant to the object of study, especially Constitutional Court Decision Number 90/Puu-XII/2023. In addition, the researcher used a case approach to understand the decidendi ratio, namely the legal reasons used by the judge to arrive at his decision, and a conceptual approach used by the researcher to understand the concept of the rule of law and the democratic principle of Pancasila, which refers to the doctrine that developed in the views of the Ulama or legal doctrine.
Results: The results of this research indicate that the procedures or mechanisms for implementing Constitutional Court Number 90/Puu-XII/2023 concerning Age Requirements for Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates must be in accordance with the procedures regulated in the constitution as a concept of a legal state (rehstsstat) where there is a division of power. From this concept it can be seen that the decision of the Constitutional Court Number 90/Puu-XII/2023 concerning the Age Requirements for Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates violates authority because the decision is an open legal policy entrusted by the drafters of the third amendment to the Constitution 1945 to the legislators to "... be further regulated by law based on Article 6 paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia
