Synthesis and antifungal activity of new O-alkylamidoximes
The continuous prospection for molecules that may be useful in the development of new therapeutic agents is a highly relevant issue, mainly because the launch of new drugs on the market does not accompany the emergence of new resistant microorganisms. In this context, this work describes the synthesis of new O-alkylamidoximes and the evaluation of its antifungal activity. The new O-alkylamidoximes were prepared using easy synthetic protocols and tested against three Candida species using the broth microdilution method. The synthesized compounds were obtained in moderate to good yields in high purity and without any observable decomposition. All tested compounds shown moderate antifungal activity against at least one strain of Candida. Despite the moderate activity of the new compounds, this was the first report involving the antifungal activity of O-alkylamidoximes. In view of the low chemotherapy arsenal and the development of fungal strains resistant to traditional antifungal agents, the present study opens new possibilities for the preparation of a new class of more active antifungal agents
Acute effect of different orders of concurrent training on glycemia
The present study verified the effect of a concurrent training (CT) session in different orders, Strength + Endurance (SE) and Endurance + Strength (ES), on the glycemic control. The crossover study included 20 young men, 21.80 ± 2.90 years, IMC ≥ 23 kg/m2, 24.83 ± 3.68% of fat, who performed both CT sessions separated by 72 h. Capillary glycemia was measured at pre, immediately post the end of each exercise session, and during the recovery period at 30, 60, and 90 minutes. The comparisons were performed using Two-way ANOVA (order and time), paired test-t for the area under the curve, as well as Cohen’s d effect size. There was effect of exercise order (F = 5.973; p = 0.03), effect of time (F = 18.345; p = 0.001) and interaction between order and time (F = 2.835; p = 0.03). The area under the curve presented a significant reduction (p = 0.03, effect size = 0.51, moderate). The area under the curve was smaller in SE, as well as glucose concentrations at end and post 30 min of exercise, suggesting better efficiency in glycemic control compared to ES
Molecular identification of microbial contaminations in the fitness center in Makkah region
As the condition increases and seeks to remain healthy, the number of people who plan to join a fitness center or "gym" has increased markedly. From where this individual does understand, the study of the variety of bacteria showing the stolen has led him to care for people, with a popular fitness center located in the province of Makka, Saudi Arabia. Different bacteria must be eliminated from other gyms in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, in a total of three areas 46 two sports equipment. Both types and characteristics of bacteria, while some have been tested in hemolytic surgery for antibiotic resistance. Corynebacterium antibiotics in different forms did not react the same; however, isolates tested for M17 and N12 showed the greatest resistance to antibiotics. Furthermore, sixteen bacterial strains of human blood β-agar displayed high hemolytic activity. In the gym isolates 2 (9 strains) followed in gym 1 (7 modes), B row hemolytic activity was highest. It is important to note that gram-positive bacteria were positive in all kinds of ways, and catalase was positive. Six strains belonging to the genus Bacillus, Brachybacterium, Geobacillus, Microbacterium, Micrococcus, and Staphylococcus and other pathogenic bacteria were known as possible individuals to use the morphological, biochemical, and rRNA gene of the 16S series. In general, this research illustrates the health and fitness centers in the individual being studied and the risks that are considered necessary to periodically study possible microbial contamination in the mixture in the gym to ensure people\u27s protection
Effectiveness of Echinacea purpurea extract on immune deficiency induced by azathioprine in male albino rats
This study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of Echinacea purpurea (E.P.) on azathioprine (AZA)-induced immune deficiency in albino rats. Thirty six male albino rats were divided into six equal groups. The first group served as normal control, the second and third groups were treated with two doses of AZA (3 and 5mg/kg/b.w/day IP), respectively for six weeks. The fourth group was treated with 50 mg kg/b.wt/day of Echinacea. The fifth and sixth groups were treated with3 and 5 mg AZAm respectively followed by50 mg E.P. administration. At the end of the experimental period, both doses of AZA revealed a significant reduction in total body and spleen weights, increase in tissue total protein with a significant increase in serum total protein and albumin, a marked decrease in the number of WBCS associated with a decrease in the number of lymphocytes, a significant decrease in serum total anti-oxidant capacity. Also,concentration of immunoglobulins (IgG and IgM) and interleukins (IL4 &IL6) showed a significant increase, while the level of IL10 decreased significantly in splenic tissue. The dose of AZA (5 mg /kg b.wt.) only resulted in a highly significant increase in serum level of T3 and T4. However, treatment with Echinacea purpurea extract had a significant influence on immune deficiency induced by azathioprine. These findings demonstrated that E.P. extract is a promising immunomodulatory agent with a potent therapeutic value in stimulating the immune response. 
Use of computational intelligence in the genetic divergence of colored cotton plants
The objective of this work was to analyze the genetic diversity using conventional methods and artificial neural networks among 12 colored fiber cotton genotypes, using technological characteristics of the fiber and productivity in terms of cottonseed and cotton fiber yield. The experiment was conducted in an experimental area located at Fazenda Capim Branco, belonging to the Federal University of Uberlândia, in the city of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. Twelve genotypes of colored fiber cotton were evaluated, 10 from the Cotton Genetic Improvement Program (PROMALG): UFUJP - 01, UFUJP - 02, UFUJP - 05, UFUJP - 08, UFUJP - 09, UFUJP - 10, UFUJP - 11, UFUJP - 13, UFUJP - 16, UFUJP - 17 and two commercial cultivars: BRS Rubi (RC) and BRS Topázio (TC). The experimental design used was complete randomized block (CRB) with three replications. The following evaluations were carried out at full maturation: yield of cottonseed (kg ha-1) and the technological characteristics, which include, fiber length, micronaire, maturation, length uniformity, short fiber index, elongation and strength, using the HVI (High volume instrument) device. Genetic dissimilarity was measured using the generalized Mahalanobis distance and after obtaining the dissimilarity matrix, the genotypes were grouped using a hierarchical clustering method (UPGMA). A discriminant analysis and the Kohonen Self-Organizing Map (SOM) by Artificial Neural Networks (ANN’s) were performed through computational intelligence. SOM was able to detect differences and organize the similarities between accesses in a more coherent way, forming a larger number of groups, when compared to the method that uses the Mahalanobis matrix. It was also more accurate than the discriminant analysis, since it made it possible to differentiate groups more coherently when comparing their phenotypic behavior. The methods that use computational intelligence proved to be more efficient in detecting similarity, with Kohonen\u27s Self-Organizing Map being the most adequate to classify and group cotton genotypes
Gee-logit model corrected biplots with harvest effects on coffee beans grading
In a granulometric analysis of coffee beans with different categories of defects, the data can be organized in contingency tables, and when considering the discrimination by harvest, they may have a structure that suggest a more complex model, by means of the counting of defective coffee beans compared to different crops interacting with the classification of defects and percentages of sieve grains, which characterizes a block design with multivariate responses. However, due to the techniques based on the analysis of variance, considering the uniform correlation structure for all plots, it becomes feasible to propose a model that allows contemplating different structures between the plots, associating the effects of the crops to the defects in the granulometric procedure applied to the coffee beans. Thus, the hypothesis of incorporating the effects of crops associated with defects arises using the biplot multivariate technique. This work aims to propose the use of corrected biplots by predictions obtained trhough the fit to the Generalized Linear Model in the coffee grain size classification, broken down by components of the effect of the harvests. In conclusion, the use of GEE models with the corrected biplot technique by the predictions is feasible for application to be applied to the granulometric analysis of defective coffee beans, presenting discrimination regarding the effects of harvests
Usability of free software used for visualization and measurement of digital orthodontic models
The aim of this study was to evaluate the usability of the free software available that allow visualization and measurement of orthodontic digital models. 80 graduate students of orthodontics were asked to perform pre-defined tasks in a digital model through 3D Viewer ® and 3D-Tool ® software. The success in accomplishing the tasks and the time spent were recorded. To end, each participant answered a questionnaire to express their satisfaction regarding the software. There were no statistically significant difference between the software when compared to the accomplishment rates of tasks and the time spent by participants on each one. The software were evaluated as "slightly satisfactory" in several criteria. Indirect orthodontic bonding with drop-shaped hot glue tray: a simple and cost-effective technique
Despite being associated with more accuracy, the indirect bonding procedure is not yet the gold standard, probably because of sensitivity of the numerous variables that must be controlled. The aim of this article was to present a modified, standardized, and low-cost indirect bonding technique that allows this procedure to be performed successfully. The technique covers an initial clinical stage, to obtain the models; a laboratory stage, which involves placement of brackets on the models following the facial axis of the clinical crown and the labial projection of the marginal ridges of the posterior teeth and construction of transfer tray using hot glue; and a second clinical stage, to properly transfer the brackets to patient’s teeth. Hot glue used to build the tray molds the teeth and perfectly adapts to the teeth, having enough stiffness to maintain their anatomy and the position of the brackets, but also presenting adequate flexibility to allow removal of the tray avoiding excessive stress over the brackets. In conclusion, the new simplified indirect bonding technique presented here provides a precise placement of brackets on the models, a cheaper way to transfer them to patient, and an easy removal of transfer tray, being a very simple and cost-effective method
Mycobacterium bovis detection in slaughtered pigs in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
The infection by the Mycobacterium genus is important in pig farming due to the economic losses caused by total or partial carcass condemnation in slaughterhouses. The present study investigated the occurrence of a tuberculosis outbreak in pigs, based on the identification of lesions at the slaughter line of a slaughterhouse. At the inspection line of the slaughterhouse, carcasses were identified with viscera containing macroscopic lesions that indicated tuberculosis (granulomatous lymphadenitis). Tracheobronchial, mesenteric, and submandibular lymph nodes were collected, as well as liver samples and their corresponding lymph nodes. The samples were sent to the Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratory (LFDA/RS) and processed for the diagnosis of tuberculosis and the molecular characterization of Mycobacterium bovis. Based on the results of post-mortem and laboratory inspections, the occurrence was characterized as a tuberculosis outbreak in pigs, which originated from a farm in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Over three months, three batches, adding up to 2884 animals, were sent to slaughter, of which 102 (3.5%) had tuberculosis-like lesions at the inspection line. Based on these results, the productive process was investigated, assessing the feeding, water supply, and milk whey offered in the diet of pigs. It was concluded that the outbreak was caused by feeding unpasteurized or inadequately pasteurized (insufficient time x temperature relation) whey to the pigs. The use of whey from cheese production is a frequent practice in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and one of the risk factors for granulomatous lymphadenitis in pigs
Knowledge and practice related to the pap smear test among cytopathologists
Cervical cancer is the third most common type of cancer amongst women, compared to other neoplasms, with a higher potential for prevention, slow evolution, and has a simple and effective screening test in its detection, cure when diagnosed early. The routine examination in Brazil for the prevention of this type of cancer is the Pap smear test. This study aimed to reveal the knowledge and practice regarding the Pap smear test among cytopathologists. A descriptive and exploratory research, a qualitative approach, performed with 21 cytopathologists, by e-mailing a data collection instrument, from March to April 2018. Data were treated using the Hierarchical Descending Classification in IraMuTeQ software and analyzed by the Discourse of the Collective Subject. The construction of the results was carried out based on aspects of the knowledge of the cytopathologists about the Pap smear, related to the importance of the completion of the post-graduation for its accomplishment, and aspects of cytopathologists practice regarding the relevance of performing the early diagnosis of cervical cancer.
