Applying Agile Lean to Global Software Development
Get PDFAlthough challenges of Global Software Development (GSD) are well known in the industry, practitioners and the organizations look for ways to improve results and overcome challenges. Companies have tried to implement many workable solutions possible to solve issues like poor communication, lack of trust, low morale and many other such issues prevalent in the distributed setting. With the success of agile, the methodology gained interest in leveraging its benefits to alleviate some of these challenges. Similarly, lean was also implemented in distributed software development to resolve issues. While each methodology provided some improvement in the results achieved in global software development, many issues persisted and the desired growth/results were not received. Recent years have seen an increased interest of applying a combination of agile and lean software development paradigms to resolve current industry issues in the area and meet the needs of rapid changing environment. This study aims to study the current practices of the combination of agile lean existing in the industry and how it can be utilized in the global software development. The study focuses on challenges faced to implement agile lean and successful sustainable implementation of agile lean in an environment of global software development
‘Tis better to choose and lose than to never choose at all
No full textWhen decisions involve opting in or out of competition many decision makers will opt-in even when doing so leads to losses on average. In the current paper, we examine the generality of this effect in risky choices not involving competition. We found that re-framing a sure (certain) zero option as an option to observe the results of the other options without choosing would lead to increased consequential choice (i.e., increased selection of risky options rather than the zero option). Specifically, in two studies we compared the rate of consequential choice in a novel paradigm where decision makers decide to observe or to choose with consequence from a set of risky options (decisions-to-engage) to a full-feedback decisions-from-feedback paradigm where the choice set included a labeled sure zero option. Compared to decisions-from-feedback, participants were more likely to choose from mixed (risky) gambles with consequence (over a zero outcome) in decisions-to-engage. This occurred irrespective of whether doing so was advantageous (i.e., when choice led to monetary gains on average) or disadvantageous (i.e., when choice led to monetary losses on average), and when descriptions of the options outcomes and probabilities were provided (Study 2). These findings provide an important boundary condition for the positive effects of experience on the quality of choice, and suggest that decision makers’ preference for agency can sometimes induce poorer choices

The training is provided through the electronic learning management system. The learning management system (LMS) will be implemented using the Waterfall Methodology (Foreman, 2013)

As years have passed, there has been a rise in the number of technology companies and such rapid expansion in the software industry has called for frequent changes and swift delivery. To cope up with the increasing expectations, companies started to adopt new development processes and as a result, businesses witnessed several different process and Agile development methodologies like Scrum, Extreme Programming, Test Driven Development, to name a few. Companies were able to effectively work with change requirements while working on successive iterations. This paper would throw light on the existing software development trends and whether agile methodologies are merely a fad or an absolute necessity for the software industry. This paper is a competitive study of three companies analyzing transition of projects before and after Agile measured through customer acceptance and other indicators. The paper would also drill down on the type of resources and involvement of Agile system demands and whether or not there is a possibility of Agile methodologies been overthrown by any potent successor in the near future. The paper would talk about different styles of leadership techniques adopted in Agile and which type would be best suited for any Agile project. Once singled out the core advantages of Agile, a plan will be created to shift from Waterfall to Agile and learn the core Agile concepts and what should be right way to transform a project into Agile

While there is no disputing that education levels in the United States continue to rise, there is also a pervasive notion that this was accomplished by gradually reducing the readability level and general difficulty of textbooks. One tool often employed in the defense of education is the employment of readability indices in the evaluation of textbooks. There are a variety of these readability indices that serve the purpose of indicating a grade level for a particular piece of writing (Kinkaid, et. al., 1975). It’s relatively easy to find dozens of sites where a teacher or interested person can submit text or a URL with the purpose of finding out the reading level expressed as a grade level for a particular piece of text. Most sites report on five different indices: Automated Readability Index, Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kinkaid Score, Gunning-Fogg Index, and SMOG Index (Simplified Measure of Gobbledygook).
