Edward Francis Chisholm. Third Class Petty Officer, U.S. Navy U.S.S. Cony.
12 October 1899 - 16 May 1943
A good shipmate, he served on the battleships Arizona, Kentucky, Missouri, and Utah, and made nineteen crossings on the transport Agamemnon, 1917 - 1918. Re-enlisted, 1942. Fought on the Bath-built destroyer Cony with Task Force 68, Kula Bay, New Georgia, 6 March 1943. Died in the Pacific Theatre of accident aboard ship.

10 May 1923 - 25 November 1944.
Following life-long Bangor residence, graduation from Bangor High School, 1941, and two years engineering study at the University of Maine, he enlisted June 1943, and trained for war at Camp Clairborne, Louisiana. His home recreation was carpentry. He was killed in action in Germany and posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.

3 November 1901 - 24 October 1944.
On his eighteenth birthday enlisted to begin four years in the Navy following World War I. Reenlisted August 1942 for World War II. Killed in action in the Pacific theatre after eighteen months of overseas duty. For thirty-five years a resident of Bangor where he was in business between wars.

Getchell, Howard William
Howard William Getchell. Sergeant, U.S. Army Infantry 9th Infantry Regiment.
28 March 1924 - 6 August 1944.
Landed in Normandy on D- Day. Wounded but returned to duty. Killed near St. Lo two months after the landing. Lies at Marigny, Manche, France. Fought also in Tunisia and Sicily. A native of Glenburn, he later became a Bangor resident. His civil occupation was transporting the U.S. mail. Purple Heart.

James Stewart MacKaye. Corporal, U.S. Army Infantry. Antitank Company 423rd Infantry Regiment.
23 October 1918 - 11 February 1945.
Combat Infantryman, fighting in the outnumbered Golden Lion Division at St.Vith he was captured, dying later in enemy prison, Stargard, Germany. Previously with Antiaircraft Artillery and Air Corps. Studied at Cornell and Columbia Little Theatre enthusiast In the lumbering tool and electrical equipment industries. His son bears his name.

Born at Ripogenus Dam. Came to Bangor, 1922. Bangor High School, 1937. An enthusiast with motorcycles, model airplanes, and baseball. In the express business. Enlisted, National Guard, 1940. Left with Bangor\u27s own outfit 24 February 1941. Killed in a motorcycle crash while driving from Camp Shelby, Mississippi, during training period.

Born in Kankakee, Illinois. Resided, Bangor, 1923 to 1942. Engineer First Class, U.S.S. Mayflower, 1919 to 1923. In peace an auto mechanic whose recreations were hunting and fishing. In war he put his skill at his country\u27s service, entering the Navy, 1942. Served until his death from illness at Recife, Brazil.

Advanced air training, Dow Field, Bangor, 1941 - 1942. Killed in action piloting his B-17 Flying Fortress over Hamburg, Germany. His son, Peter Anthony, is a native of Bangor. Purple Heart.

Seven years in the National Guard preceded his Federal induction and training at Fort McClellan and his going overseas with the Thunderbolt Division. Killed in action in Northern France. Studied at Hampden Academy. Employed in the electric power industry and in shipbuilding. Father of a daughter, Lois Ann. Purple Heart.
