The timing and quality of diphthong components in spontaneous Estonian (data)
Using data from a corpus of spontaneous speech the present study investigates the timing and quality of diphthong components in Estonian, a quantity language that combines a rich vowel system (9 monophthongs, 36 diphthongs) with complex prosodic characteristics (three quantity degrees). In the Estonian quantity system, diphthongs are equivalent to long vowels and can occur in both long and overlong quantity degrees. Previous studies have been inconclusive as to whether the lengthening in the overlong quantity involves just one or both diphthong components. The results of the current study, based on the formant trajectories of 9 monophthongs and 8 diphthongs from 119 speakers, show that both diphthong components are lengthened but that the lengthening is more prominent in the second component. Instead of connecting two stable targets the formant trajectories change during the course of the whole diphthong forming a constant glide

Global peatlands N2O
Locations, dates, measurements of soil chemistry and physics, and N2O fluxes used in the analyses for the paper 'Nitrogen-rich organic soils under warm, well-drained conditions are global nitrous oxide emission hotspots' submitted to Nature Communications . A'air_t_max', air temperature at the nearest weather station in the warmest month of the year (KNMI Climate Explorer http://climexp.knmi.nl). Nitrogen-rich organic soils under warm, well-drained conditions are global nitrous oxide emission hotspots. N2O is a powerful greenhouse gas and the main driver of stratospheric ozone depletion. Since soils are the largest source of N2O, predicting soil response to changes in climate or land use is central to understanding and managing N2O. In a global field survey of N2O emissions and potential driving factors across a wide range of organic soils, we find that N2O flux can be predicted by models incorporating soil nitrate concentration (NO3-), water content and temperature. N2O emissions increases asymptotically with NO3-and follows a bell-shaped distribution with water content. Combining the two functions explains 72% of N2O emission from all organic soils. Above 5 mg NO3--N kg-1, either draining wet soils or irrigating well-drained soils increases N2O emission by orders of magnitude. As soil temperature together with NO3- explains 69% of N2O emission, tropical wetlands should be a priority for N2O management

Uuema eesti ilukirjanduse mitmikute loendid
This dataset consists of different types of n-grams (uni-, bi- and trigrams) generated from the newer fiction texts in Estonian. N-grams are presented in token format, i.e. as they appear in the text. The lemma n-grams of the same data are available as well

of the adolescents’ and young adults’ survey that was carried out in Estonia from November 2017 to
February 2018. It merges results of two polls (15-19 and 20-30 year olds). Survey was conducted by
University of Tartu (UT) within the WP7 research activity which aims at testing processes influencing

Journal of Phonetics. Target words with six different foot structures were used: CVCV, CVCCV, CVC:CV(C), CVVCV(C), CVVCCV(C), CVVC:CVC. In total there were 1463 words included in the analysis of durations, 1043 for fundamental frequency and 597 for intensity measures
