Developing Classroom Interactional Competence of Pre-service Teachers at University through Online Lesson-Plan Studies and Reflective Practice
Classroom discourse plays a significant role in communicative English classes. Interaction between a teacher and students creates an ʻacquisition richʼ environment in the classroom if it can be managed effectively. However, English classes in Japan have not been interactive, not meeting the latest policies set and mandated by the national guidelines for teaching. This study investigates classroom interactional competence (CIC), focusing especially on its development in pre-service teacher training programmes at the university level. It reports the problems found in lesson-plan studies. It shows that the training through lesson-plan studies and reflective practice (RP) can be effective even in online classes
An Introduction to Readers Theatre
It is common in Japanese university English classrooms to meet students across the spectrum of English levels who lack the confidence and ability to speak fluently. Additionally, many of them have great difficulty in understanding spoken English. Students arenʼt introduced to the rules and conventions of English pronunciation in a way that enables them to assimilate and use this knowledge, and this precludes many learners from speaking smoothly or understanding naturally spoken English. Readers Theatre is a performance-based group activity in which participants read aloud from a script. In English as a foreign language education Readers Theatre may be an effective approach to enable students to achieve greater language fluency and due to its structured nature, build their confidence to speak English. What follows is an introduction to how Readers Theatre can be implemented in the Japanese university classroom with the aim of helping students to develop better English communication skills in relation to pronunciation, fluency, listening skills and confidence

Why the Philosophy of Education?
It is customary for those working in education to refer to research undertaken in other fields to solve the problems they face. Education is not a closed discipline that is untouched and unaffected by the findings made in neighboring fields of inquiry. Rather, studies in psychology and sociology contribute to the advancement of teaching and learning. Given how subjects outside education are aiding the quality of learning, the trend of borrowing and making extensive use of research conducted outside the parameters of education is bound to continue. Interdisciplinary research is not, in other words, a temporary phase that will sooner or later fade away. Though very few involved in education question the value of incorporating the insights offered by such fields as psychology and history, many have serious doubts concerning the importance of philosophy to education. In fact, it is not at all unusual for teachers to conceive philosophy as an impractical, speculative pursuit that has no important bearing on what happens inside the classroom. Philosophy, however, has an important role to play in education. It is not a trivial pursuit that can be discarded as frivolous and pretentious by those seeking to expand the minds of those under their tutelage. As this study hopes to show, it can help unveil some of the deep, inbuilt assumptions teaching practices, curricular aims, and learning activities make about the metaphysical nature of human beings
Educational activities of Chinese hospital school: The situation analysis through questionnaires
