Eli T. Merriman a biography
The purpose of this study is to relate the story of Mr. Eli T. Merriman's life. The fact that he lived in Corpus Christi for seventy-five years ad in its vicinity for eighty-eight years, makes the story of his life parallel with the beginning and the growth of that city. In another sense also Mr. Merriman's life is of historic importance; for he was a very worthy representative of the pioneers who by their ambition, their untiring zeal, and their ability to overcome difficulties, laid the foundation of this civilization year by year and helped in the development of this country. It was done by hard work and sacrifices. There were many difficulties that would have discouraged some, but to pioneers like Mr. Merriman those difficulties served as stepping stones to greater achievements. It is hoped that this paper will show how these were accomplished
Arithmetic achievement tests for six weeks periods for the first grade of the Stephen F. Austin School in Kingsville
The author has taught arithmetic in the primary grades for several years and has found the testing materials inadequate for the needs of the pupils and the teacher. It is the purpose of this research to construct test that meet the requirements of the scientific measuring instruments. The author has made a study of test making and test results to enable her to construct such test. As a result of her research she has made a series of six achievement of the pupils for each six-weeks period. They are based on the objectives and items listed in the "Subject Matter Outline in Arithmetic for the Kingsville Public Schools.

This study has as its purpose the formulation of methods for determining the maximum errors that are possible in the final results of typical problems of measurements encountered in Physics. Such measurements may be classified into two groups: DIRECT measurements are those made by methods and instruments where indications give directly the quantity sought, and are obtained by reading a scale graduated in terms of the chosen unit; such as, yardsticks, cloaks, voltmeters, chemical balances, etc., from which the value of the measurement may be read directly by the observer
A critical analysis of the independent reading in grades IV, V, and VI of the Beeville elementary school, Beeville, Texas
The Beeville Public School, which is located in Beeville, Bee County, Texas, has a scholastic eensus of approximately 2070 pupils. These 2070 pupils are housed in four different buildings, namely, the Senior High School with grades X, XI, and XII, Junior High with grades VII, VIII, and IX, the Elementary Building with grades I-VI, inclusive, and West Side school for the Spanish culture pupils. The fusion and comparison of image processing algorithms for prediction of leaf disease
Many bacteria, fungi, and viruses damage a plethora of plants in the United States. More than sixty percent of the total U.S. crop losses are due to pathogens and fungi, adding up to an estimated expense of 137 billion dollars a year. Leaf diseases are a significant threat to humans as consumers and breeders of the plants. Plant quality and productivity are affected by the different types of diseases. Many are infectious and can cause a total loss of crop yield
Timely and accurate detection of plant diseases is essential for crop quality and yield. Early detection can reduce plant disease; farmers rely on experts to identify most of the diseases. For a small farm measuring a few acres, the traditional method of a disease detection may be possible, but this method is not feasible and is costly for a large field. In many rural areas, farmers often lack precise knowledge or accessibility to an expert.
Using various image processing techniques such as the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), the Support Vector Machine (SVM), and the k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) algorithm, plant diseases can be identified. A user-friendly and robust user interface is developed using web technologies. The fusion and comparison of different image processing algorithms result in a model that is used to predict leaf diseases. The optimal performance in this research is achieved by implementing the CNN+CNN fusion model.
This work's unique novel contribution is that it performs all of the machine learning with cloud computing on the AWS EC2 (Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud), whereas previous methods have only stored the data on the cloud; and, the proposed method of this work, fusion CNN + CNN has a 95% accuracy, higher than the other previous methods compared
Antibiotic resistant pathogens in the microbiome of procyon lotor
Procyon lotor, the Northern Raccoon, is an asymptomatic carrier of many zoonotic pathogens, such as Salmonella species. Raccoons are highly adaptable, and often found habituating commensal with humans. Because of commensal habits, we sought to determine if raccoons could be a reservoir of pathogens in the environment, and if so, are those pathogens resistant to antibiotics? Prior studies have investigated occurrence of Salmonella in raccoons, but not other clinically relevant pathogens, nor the resistance to antibiotics. Our study focused on three genera of clinically relevant microbes: Enterococcus, Escherichia, and Salmonella. Samples from the gastrointestinal tract were collected and selectively enriched using different media. Preliminary results based on selection were positively identified to the strain using MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry. In addition, since a majority of samples contained all three genera, we then identified antibiotic resistant bacteria that could potentially spread resistance through horizontal transmission to other bacteria. We tested Enterococcus species for Vancomycin resistance, as Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) is a current health concern in clinical settings. Ceftiofur was the antibiotic used for both Salmonella and Escherichia species. The presence of antibiotic resistance in feral raccoons provides a unique insight into the spread of pathogens through wildlife, and how it might pose potential health risks to both humans and domestic animals that live in close proximity
Correlating porosity, water saturation, and hydrocarbon saturation characteristics of miocene formation reservoirs from seismic and well log data in the main pass protraction area, Gulf of Mexico
The industry has tools to investigate subsurface geology, however, no single data source is solely used in determining parameters needed for the petroleum system’s confidence of success. This study focuses on estimating porosity, water saturation, and hydrocarbon saturation for the reservoir prospects found in the Main Pass area, Gulf of Mexico, to determine the most advantageous prospect. 3D seismic data, biostratigraphy, well log and digital curve data were provided by the Society of Exploration Geophysics EVOLVE program from the National Archive of Marine Seismic Surveys of the USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center. These data aided in analyzing and interpreting the prospects to determine the best candidate. Six prospects were identified based on 3D seismic data interpretation, further analyzing the most advantageous prospect. The average ϕ of 758 wells within the Main Pass area was 30%; the average ϕ of 4 wells near the prospect was 20%. Estimated average ϕ for Prospect Elm ranged from 13% - 31%; Prospect Cherry ranged from 14% - 24%. The estimates were used to assess the prospect’s water (Sw) and hydrocarbon (SH) saturation. The average Sw of 758 wells was 31%; the average Sw of 4 wells was 36%. Prospect Elm calculated Sw were ~60 to 100%, the SH were ~0 to 40%. Prospect Cherry had two sections of interest, their Sw values were ~30 – 100% and resulted in ~0 to 70% SH. Considering all observations Prospect Cherry is the most advantageous prospect with an estimated 7 Million Reservoir Barrels

It is not surprising that religious folk drama still exists in the heart of Mexico, a country with a literary ancestry of religious plays, autos sacramentals, and symbolic drama. But it is more incredible and a matter of greater interest to the student of the folklore to find on American sol and in the twentieth century the popular representation of a religious drama which had its beginning in the middle ages. Yet it is true that traditional religious drama as a medium of popular devotion and entertainment has persisted in the region north of Rio Grande. The performances are in the Spanish language with some forms now archaic, but which were in common use in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and the actors are usually Mexican laborers

In writing this paper the desire has been to record how a new industry developed in the gulf of Texas, in the area of Agua Dulce, Nueces County, by processing the gas from gas wells for which there was no market for the residue and extracting the fluid therefrom and returning gas to the sand in the reservoir by mechanical means. Whereby the by-products of the gas are saved without physical wastewhile at the same time conforming to the state laws concerning the conservation of the natural resources of the state of Texas
