    The Columbia River Project

    The Columbia River is second in size when compared with other North American rivers, and is second only to the Mississippi. From the standpoint of the power development, it is the greatest of all American rivers. Its basin has an area of about 259,000 square miles. A volume of water averaging annually 199,850,000 acre-feet passes through The Dalles, Oregon. The Columbia River is approximately 1,200 miles in length, of which the upper 465 miles lies wholly in Canada. Of the portion in the United States, 425 miles lie above the mouth of the Snake River. From the mouth of the snake to the Pacific Ocean is 324 miles. The drainage area of the Columbia River above the mouth of the Snake River is 103,00 square miles, of which 39,000 square miles are in Canada and 64,000 square miles are in the United States. This area is divided between the Provine of British Columbia and three states of Montana, Idaho, and Washington

    Short stories written before the depression decade of 1930 to 1940 were optimistic tales influenced by the period of speculation and inflation. The stories catered to the esthetic sense of the public, had obvious tendencies toward idealism and gentility, and comparatively little irony. Many were written with elaborate hauteur. The fact that nearly everyone in America was "sitting on top of the world" with plenty of money, having a gay, happy times, was reflected in these pre-depression stories

Comparatively little has been written of the early history of this section of Texas so rich in things of human interest and historical importance. Cabeza de Vaca passed through it four hundred years ago. La Salle and his Frenchmen visited the country and caused the Spanish to become active in exploring and settling in the Gulf region. Mexico came into possession of it after 1821. Texas and Mexico claimed it after 1836. General Taylor's army marched from Corpus Christi to the Rio Grande at the beginning of the Mexican War

    Path planning algorithm for a two-wheel differential mobile robot in robot operating system

    This thesis focuses on the algorithm used for navigation between two different locations by avoiding obstacles. The algorithm is developed in a way that results in an efficient path planner between two given locations. Algorithms such as the potential field approach and Voronoi diagram are used as references in developing the suggested algorithm by a hybrid approach to developing the performance of the proposed algorithm. Python is used to write a new path planner function for the algorithm developed under this research work. Navigation is achieved by integrating the proposed path planner to the open-source middleware called Robot Operating System (ROS). A custom robot is defined in the ROS ecosystem using the Unified Robot Description Format (URDF). Several launch files are created to launch the robot in the desired environment and launch the path planning algorithm in Gazebo. Localization is achieved using the open-source gmapping plugin in ROS. An occupancy grip map of the domain is obtained using RVIZ software with custom-built parameters of the laser attached to the robot. The proposed algorithm is then integrated into ROS by creating several nodes involving publisher-subscriber and server-client relations to make it available for the robot to receive information from its sensors and send velocity commands to navigate effectively. A prior map is provided for the path planner node in ROS to enable the robot to plan its desired line of the path towards the goal location. The desired line of the track is maintained in conjunction with real-time sensor readings. The frequencies of path planners are determined such that it enables a successful obstacle avoidance solution. The performance of the proposed algorithm concerning path length and execution time is weighed with some of the well-known algorithms. The kinematic and dynamic constraints of the differential mobile robot are not considered in this approach
