    A lack of information on classification and a personal interest in mollusks of the Texas coast has resulted in this study. The late Mr. John Kern Strecker, of Baylor University, Waco, Texas, has compiled the most complete checklist to date. The available data on the mollusks of this region is relatively scarce.     The purpose of this work is to begin a comparison of the chromosomes in reptiles of America with those of Asia and Europe. A study of reptilian chromosomes of Asia has been made by Nakamura (‘35) who reports the number 46 in Japarula swinhonis, a lizard, and 52 in Clemmys japonica, a turtle. Oguma (‘34) found two X-chromosomes in the male Lactera vivipara and one X-chromosome in the female. Latthey (‘31) found 36 chromosomes in two European lizards, Agama stellio and Uromastix hardwicki.     The purpose of this thesis is twofold. In the first place, it is to serve as a reference t those interested in securing data on the Bishop School. In the second place, it is to serve as a basis for further research. The scope of this study includes all public educational work carried on in the Bishop School District from 1910 through 1938. The problem is divided into six chapters, according to the tenure of the Superintendents. Trustees, teachers, janitors, bus drivers, pupils, finance, buildings, curriculum, activities, and graduates are discussed in each chapter. All of the data is arranged in chronological order. Throughout the thesis the author has tried to call the reader’s attention to interesting questions which arise from studying the given data, but has made no attempt to answer them

    Senate Bill 116, enacted by the Fifty-First Legislature of Texas, become effective June 8, 1949. Article 1 declares that the law shall be known as the Foundation School Program Act. The purpose of this Act is best stated in the words of the first article. "It us the purpose of this Act to guarantee to each child of school age in Texas the availability of a minimum Foundation School Program for nine (9) full months of the year, and to establish the eligibility requirements applicable to Texas public school district therewith. With the passage of this Act came the problem of adjusting the entire school program of every school in Texas to conform with the new requirements. Each local school superintendent was faced with the task of applying the new program to his particular school

    For the past two years it has been the writer's privilege to act in the capacity of the principal of the Petronila School. During these two years teachers have a continuous concern for the many pupils of the seventh, eighth, and nineth grades who fail their work. During the school term of 1947-1948, six out of fourteen in the seventh grade, five out of the eleven in the eighth grade, and ten out of nineteen in the nineth grade at the end of the first semester were failing from one half to all of their subjects. There is no wonder that teachers were concerned over the results of their teaching
