The construct of foreign language aptitude
This project is part of a PhD research project funded by the University of Amsterdam. The aim of this PhD project is to explore the construct of foreign language aptitude from a complex dynamic systems theory (CDST) perspective. More specifically, we aim to test Richard Snow's (1989, 1992) theory of aptitude complexes, conceptualising aptitude as a complex system formed out of interactions between cognitive, affective, and conative components. To empirically model this theory, we plan to use network analysis. By creating a network model of partial correlations, we aim to assess the relative contribution of cognitive, affective, and conative individual differences to language learning gains. We will update this folder throughout the project
