I'm Not Over It
Get PDFWhat initially started as a project to work through the emotional traumas of specific events in my life and my relationships with others, eventually transformed into an ode for grief herself, with each section of this collection representing a different stage of grief. Psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross created the “Five Stages of Grief;” Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and lastly, Acceptance. Every single poem in this collection was either written during or about a specific stage in the grief process.
In terms of my writing process, I looked to other writers for inspiration and used that to better my own writing. The collections that shaped my own the most were “Some Say The Lark” by Jennifer Chang, “There Should Be Flowers" by Jennifer Espinoza, “Frank: Sonnets” by Diane Seuss, and “Ariel” by Sylvia Plath.
It was paramount to me that this collection flowed in a way that mimicked the stages, as well as could have elements of narrative and story telling. In each stage, the order the poems are in are intentional, and are made to feel as if they are deep within the stage they are written about or in. The order was made in such a way that each piece can act as a transitional piece, moving the reader along within that stage and ultimately into the next one.
While this may be true, the poems can be read as part of other stages as well, despite their placement. This, too, was intentional. Just like grief is not linear, these poems can be interpreted by the reader as a different stage and will still make sense to their narrative. Grief is complicated and morphs and changes as time progresses, which is something I wanted to show in this collection. </p
The Algebraic Approach to CSPs: An Introduction with Applications to Bounded Width
Get PDF One of the most important developments during the Dichotomy Theorem era of the study of constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs) was the algebraic approach to CSPs introduced by Bulatov, Jeavons, and Krokhin. In this paper, we define CSPs, and use L-structures and Galois connections to present the algebraic approach to CSPs. Then we use the algebraic approach to explain the proof by Barto and Kozik of the Bounded Width Theorem, which proves a special case of the Dichotomy Theorem. </p
Analyzing the Role of Policy and Governance in Progress Towards Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia
Get PDFThis thesis examines progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. It analyzes the impact of policy and governance on progress through open-ended interviews and a review of literature and third-party data. This thesis identifies interviewees’ experiences, opinions, and goals relating to marine health, barriers, and management in their countries. This thesis explores the factors that drive community goals for marine protection and factors that contribute to and hinder progress towards SDG 14 in each country. In this thesis, I determine how effectively policies address community and SDG 14 targets in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. My findings show that further government action is needed before significant progress can be made towards Sustainable Development Goal 14 targets. Key limitations to national progress include a lack of community engagement and prioritization of development. I identified that national policies in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia, underrepresent communities’ goals for marine conservation. My findings also show that further international action is needed to achieve SDG 14.</p
Exploring Sense of Agency in Digital Media Use Among Non-WEIRD Populations

Digital well-being is becoming increasingly more important as more and more people of all age groups are spending an average of three to five hours a day on various social media platforms, raising the question of how to have control over our digital media consumption habits in a world where social media is designed to draw us in with every like and notification? Limited research is available on effectiveness of different social media interventions in older populations, as much of current research primarily focuses on children and young adults, despite older adults becoming a prevalent demographic. In this study, I am investigating one’s sense of agency in digital media consumption in non-WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) populations with adults aged 35 or older and outside of a traditional classroom setting, building upon the PRISM Program created by Nick Hunkins and Dr. Annie Margaret. I hypothesize that the intervention which focuses on aligning behavior with intention is equally as effective in these demographics as it is in college aged students in a classroom setting. Participants in this study were asked to complete a series of surveys designed to explore their relationship with digital technology, including a combination of self-reflection, behavior tracking, and attitudinal questions over five weeks. Results showed that this intervention was effective in this demographic, enhancing perceived agency and reduced problematic social media use in participants, furthering the notion of behavior alignment through self-directed control. These results can help us to promote digital well-being across all age groups, especially to those who have been neglected within digital environments. </p

No full textThis data repository contains immunostained fluorescent images of porcine valve interstitial cells seeded on soft and stiff hydrogels which promote a quiescent fibroblast and activated myofibroblast phenotype, respectively. In addition, this repository contains immunostained fluorescent images of valve interstitial cells seeded on soft hydrogels and treated with the compound bpV(HOpic) (soft_HOP). Furthermore, immunostained fluorescent images of valve interstitial cells seeded on stiff hydrogels and treated with the compound 5-azacytidine (stiff_AZA) are included. Each subfolder contains three image files: Alexa_488.tiff, Alexa_546.tiff, and DAPI.tff which correspond to alpha-smooth muscle actin, HCS CellMask Orange, and nuclei, respectively. Lastly, we have included cytoplasm and nuclear segmentations as well as manual phenotypic grading of the raw images. Please note that the resolution embedded in the metadata of the .tiff files is incorrect. The resolution of the .tiff images is 0.4928 microns per pixel. </p
