    DEI-Informed Pedagogy in Theatre Courses

    This portfolio represents my work from the Critical Dialogic Pedagogy Micro-Credential Program, a 10-week workshop series offered by CU Dialogues at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Through a combination of in-person dialogue practice, asynchronous learning, and applied classroom activities, I engaged with core concepts of critical dialogue pedagogy and explored ways to center intersectional equity in my teaching. The micro-credential supported me in deepening my awareness of positionality and power in instructional spaces, and helped me build skills for designing inclusive, dialogically informed learning environments. The artifacts included in this portfolio&mdash;such as a positionality statement, lesson redesign, dialogic protocols, and a personal growth reflection&mdash;demonstrate my evolving understanding of equity-centered pedagogy and my commitment to fostering dialogue across differences in my role as an educator.</p

    Review of My Name is Barbara by Barbara Streisand

    My Name is Barbra is a brick, a monumental tome clocking in at 966 pages. This work chronicles many things; it is an accounting of an extraordinary life by an extraordinary person. It is also the exemplar of absolutely everything that is wrong with autobiographies. One can presume that Viking gave the author carte blanche to write what she wanted as she wanted, with seemingly no editorial input. The book is first and foremost an extremely long love letter to voice-to-text. The author is clear at the beginning that she never learned to type, and the reader can easily hear her speaking into her phone . . . via all the ellipses. Thousands of ellipses. Such a book only exists because of the fame of its author, and perhaps this is the case with most autobiographies. Their authors are famous not because they are writers, but because of their singular art form. I would argue this is why editors exist&mdash;to spin into gold the raw material produced by the artist. No such luck here. Similar to other autobigraphies by performing artists, Streisand specializes in telling us the what and the who. What happened and who was there. What I sang is also part of this formula, but it&rsquo;s almost second fiddle compared to what I wore, the real surprise and delight of this monograph</p

    Quantifying the influence of snow over sea ice morphology on L-band passive microwave satellite observations in the Southern Ocean

    Antarctic snow on sea ice can contain slush, snow ice, and stratified layers, complicating satellite retrieval processes for snow depth, ice thickness, and sea ice concentration. The presence of moist and brine-wetted snow alters microwave snow emissions and modifies the energy and mass balance of sea ice. This study assesses the impact of brine-wetted snow and slush layers on L-band surface brightness temperatures (TBs) by synergizing a snow stratigraphy model (SNOWPACK) driven by atmospheric reanalysis data and the RAdiative transfer model Developed for Ice and Snow in the L-band (RADIS-L) v1.0 The updated RADIS-L v1.1 further introduces parameterizations for brine-wetted snow and slush layers over Antarctic sea ice. Our findings highlight the importance of including both brine-wetted snow and slush layers in order to accurately simulate L-band brightness temperatures, laying the groundwork for improved satellite retrievals of snow depth and ice thickness using satellite sensors such as Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) and Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP). However, biases in modelled and observed L-band brightness temperatures persist, which we attribute to small-scale sea ice heterogeneity and snow stratigraphy. Given the scarcity of comprehensive in situ snow and ice data in the Southern Ocean, ramping up observational initiatives is imperative to not only provide satellite validation datasets but also improve process-level understanding that can scale up to improving the precision of satellite snow and ice thickness retrievals. &nbsp;</p

    Development and Evaluation of Technologies and Social Science Methods Supporting Collective Action Toward Climate Resilient Water Resource Management

    This work explores innovative approaches toward sustainable water management in the Western United States, focusing on the integration of behavioral economics, nature-based solutions, and sensor technology to address challenges posed by climate change and shifting hydrology in rural and agricultural communities. Developing and evaluating a digital behavioral economics game simulating groundwater conservation in Colorado's San Luis Valley, the initial study introduces a novel tool enabling policymakers to explore institutional innovations for preventing overexploitation of renewable resources. Results demonstrate that financial incentives significantly influence crop choices and water use patterns, while fostering collaborative behaviors among stakeholders. This game proves effective in informing and empowering communities to engage in collaborative problem-solving, leading to improved water conservation efforts. Barriers and opportunities for implementing nature-based solutions to enhance water quality form the focus of the subsequent investigation. Employing a mixed-methods approach, including key informant interviews, focus groups, and surveys, the research identifies regulatory hurdles, funding challenges, and the need for robust water quality monitoring systems as primary obstacles. Regulatory constraints emerge as a critical barrier, highlighting the necessity for policy reforms to facilitate nature-based solutionimplementation. The study emphasizes the importance of new financing models and incentive-based programs to overcome funding limitations. In the concluding study, a novel approach to predicting Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and nutrients in the Yampa River watershed using high-frequency sensor data and machine learning techniques is presented. A Gradient Boosting Machine model, trained on lab-analyzed TOC and TN samples and in situ sensor measurements, achieves high accuracy in predicting TOC concentrations (RMSE &lt;0.9 mg/L) and binary classification (above/below 0.3 mg/L) of TN with an accuracy of 80%. The study also reveals significant discrepancies between traditional and high-resolution land cover data, highlighting the importance of accurate land use assessment in water quality monitoring. This approach offers a cost-effective method for continuous water quality monitoring, enabling more responsive watershed management strategies. The integration of these diverse studies demonstrates the potential of integrating technological tools, stakeholder engagement, and innovative methodologies to develop locally-tailored solutions for water resource conservation and protection. By addressing both water quantity and quality concerns, this research provides valuable insights for policymakers, water managers, and communities facing water security challenges in the changing climate of the Western United States.</p
