Exploration of Protected Qubit Architectures and Two-Qubit Gate Design

Get PDF
This dissertation explores three types of protected superconducting qubits: the rhombusqubit, the 0-π qubit, and the gyrator qubit. For the rhombus qubit, we analyze both symmetric and asymmetric circuit variants, quantizing the system and comparing their energy spectra. We find that the symmetric rhombus exhibits exponential protection against both depolarization and charge noise-induced dephasing. Importantly, we show that introducing asymmetry yields a firstorder flux noise sweet spot, which can significantly extend qubit coherence and improve gate depth. For the soft 0-π qubit, we study single- and two-qubit gates using microwave drives. We demonstrate that driving nθ achieves higher-fidelity single qubit X gate than driving nφ, with simulated fidelities ∼ 99.9% and gate time ∼ 30 ns for T1 = Tφ = 30µs. We also develop two kinds of two-qubit gates, CZ and CNOT gates. These gates are realized using both direct and Raman-type transitions, with fidelities ∼ 99.9% and gate times around 160 ns for T1 = Tφ = 30µs. We also propose a method to generate GKP states using parametrically induced gyration between coupled oscillators. We describe a circuit implementation using a modulated inductor and derive the corresponding quantum Hamiltonian. Importantly I show that having an imperfect gyration ratio degrades the code space of gyrator qubit. Finally I develop a graph-theoretic approach to enumerate superconducting circuits and identify candidates with favorable coherence properties. Applying this framework, we compare transmon, fluxonium, and rhombus qubits in terms of relaxation time, dephasing, and expected gate count, finding that the asymmetric rhombus offers competitive, and potentially superior, performance.</p

NEPC Review: A State-Level Perspective on School Spending and Educational Outcomes (Brookings Institution, September 2025)

Get PDF
A large and growing body of high-quality research shows that increased school funding improves student outcomes. A new Brookings Institute report examines this relationship but finds much smaller effects than a recent, widely cited meta-analysis. However, because the report relies on statewide averages for spending and outcomes, it masks substantial within-state variation. And unlike the studies in the meta-analysis, its simplistic methods cannot credibly estimate the true funding–outcomes relationship. As a result, the report offers little meaningful guidance for policymakers seeking to reform school funding policies.</p

NEPC Review: Let’s Get Ready! Educating All Americans for Success (National Governors Association, July 2025)

Get PDF
A National Governors Association report urges governors to make schools engines of economic competitiveness through public dashboards that align education with workforce needs. It defines four “readiness” areas—academic skills, job preparation, civic participation, and well-being—yet frames all through an economic lens, proposing funding systems that reward or punish schools based on graduates’ income. Though it calls for moving beyond test scores, the report relies on CEO testimonials rather than rigorous research and overlooks evidence that high-stakes accountability narrows curriculum and harms teaching. By treating students and teachers as causes of economic inequality instead of their victims, it diverts attention from structural reforms and offers little practical guidance for improving schools. </div

The Secretary Problem With Non-Linear Distributions

The Secretary Problem has been around for years. It has been so influential that it spawned it’s own sub-field of mathematics. This paper will cover both the original solution and the more modern square root variation. Then, a solution for the n^2 variation will be computed. After a few iterations of n^x, a small pattern is expected to appear, which prompts the Alpha Gamma Hypothesis. With a bit more work, the hypothesis has potential to become a theorem. </p

A Bibliometric Analysis of Research on Bilinguals with Communication Disorders

Get PDF
This study purposed to provide a bibliometric visualization and analysis of bilinguals with communication disorders based on downloaded publications from the database Web of Science (WoS) from years 1912 to 2025 to identify major trends in the research surrounding bilinguals with communication disorders. Research has shown that the influence of multiple languages have an impact on brain structure, speech and language intervention, and educational outcomes (Kiran & Gray, 2018; Lam & To, 2017; Roseberry-Mckibbin, 2021) which emphasizes the importance of researching bilingualism in tandem with communication disorders. To conduct this study, 6,326 articles were referenced from the WoS database downloaded as full record and RIS files. Types of articles analyzed include article, proceeding paper, early access, abstract, and clinical trial. Using VOSviewer, a bibliometric analysis software, co-word citation and co-authorship citation visualizations and analyses were conducted. In addition, JMP Statistical Discovery was used to evaluate the downloaded full records and analyze publication years, number of published works by country, and journal distribution through figures and visualizations. Results indicated that research on bilinguals with communication disorders is heavily concentrated on bilingual children who are learning English and have a language disorder. Furthermore, there are disparities among coverage of diverse communication disorders across speech, language, and hearing (e.g. AAC, apraxia, and genetic conditions). The findings of this study suggest the need for more inclusive and diversified research to address underrepresented populations and disorders, informing more equitable clinical practices and future policy development in multilingual contexts.</p
