Estudiantes Graduados de Terapia Matrimonial y Familiar en Grupos de Aprendizaje Colaborativo

    No full text

    No full text
The goal of this article is to highlight the perceptions of military personnel surrounding a particularly challenging set of conversations: those that occur at end of life (EOL). The authors conducted exploratory, semi-structured interviews with military students at Marine Corps University and interpreted their responses through the lens of Buzzanell’s (2010) communication theory of resilience. Participants’ use of discursive tensions were explored to understand the potential connection between resilience and difficult dialogue about death. No full text
Following the creation of online information literacy tutorial in response to the shift to online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a team of librarians developed a multi-pronged approach to assessing the module to determine how well it met the stated learning objectives. This article describes the assessment of the Getting Started with Research information literacy module, a learning experience developed using RISE software and accompanied by a Google Forms research log for students to complete. The authors present results from both a rubric-driven and textual analysis study undertaken to assess student responses to the research logs that accompany the module, and discuss how the findings of the study will inform future practice.

    Body and Blood

    No full text
TW: Eating disorders.   Suffering and recovering from an eating disorder during the formative years of my life is an experience inextricable from my relationship with gender. My body has changed intentionally and unintentionally. Contemporary standards for the feminine body are paradoxical; "skinny” is at once an ideal for femininity and boyishness. I starved myself for both ideals. Body dysphoria and dysmorphia are the inverse of committed worship. Everything comes back to the body; you are a prisoner in this inescapable land. My escape, and recovery, are ongoing and they shape the navigation of my gender identity. I now bear a resemblance to icons of femininity. My body has resumed menstruation. I feel further from androgyny. And yet, I am grateful for the progress I have made. Body and Blood is a battle cry, a war against my body, an apology to myself, and a prayer of feral hope. It does not solve any issues of body or gender. It is a step out of the dark. Almost every metaphor and image in this poem is a double entendre to relay the polarization between femininity and androgyny, trauma and recovery, dysmorphia, and euphoria: I hold all within my body

Secondary school learners’ understanding of Namibian boys’ underachievement and under-participation in education

    No full text
To understand the manifestations of gender disparity in academic achievement between boys and girls, we conducted the Namibian boys’ underachievement in education study. In this article we present data from this study on secondary school learners’ understanding of the disparity. Using a pragmatic parallel mixed methods research design, systematic and criterion sampling techniques, we collected data by administering structured questionnaires to 4659 learners. We also conducted focus group discussions with purposefully selected learners. Some boys performed worse than girls and under-participated in education because they withdrew from learning activities, believed they could do without education, they were not interested in education, dropped out of school and did not actively participate in learning activities. Several parents undermined their sons’ educational achievement during socialization by giving them too much freedom to roam while strictly controlling the behaviour of their daughters; allowing their sons to abuse alcohol and drugs; not giving their sons responsibilities at home; not being concerned of their sons’ education, misconduct, and welfare. We have recommended that schools should establish boys’ academic intrinsic achievement motivation programmes by addressing their dysfunctional motivational attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours. Such programmes should also attend to the boys’ adverse external motivational factors such as negative peer pressure and lack of supportive family and community environments.

Single Session Psychotherapy at a Quebec CEGEP: How One College Reduced Wait Times for Students Accessing Mental Health Services

    No full text
Mental health concerns are becoming increasingly prevalent among post-secondary students in Quebec and across the country. As demands for services have increased, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health professionals in educational settings are seeking new ways to ease access to services all while providing the support and care clients need to help them reach their goals both personally and academically. The purpose of the present report is to demonstrate the benefits of a Single Session or One – At – A – Time model for psychotherapy in a local Montreal area CEGEP. Overall, results would suggest that this is an effective strategy to mitigate the long wait lists and also provides students with the opportunity to receive immediate and solution-focused support. The benefits of a stepped care model in CEGEP and other post-secondary institutions improve accessibility to mental health services on campus and reduce the demand of students requiring ongoing long-term care

    No full text
A Case Study of Women in the Middle Ages: Digressing Gendered & Sexed Boundaries

    No full text
A Case Study of Women in the Middle Ages: Digressing Gendered & Sexed Boundaries critically examines the historical marginalisation of women who transgressed gender and sexual boundaries during the Middle Ages, emphasising the interconnected themes of Gender, Sexuality, and Social Change. By unravelling the neglected narratives of women in same-sex relationships, the article underscores the societal fears that suppressed these histories, hindering broader discussions on gender autonomy and challenging traditional norms. The author delves into the phallocentric view of sexuality and the influence of canon law, reflecting the historical context\u27s impact on the perception of women\u27s same-sex relationships. The article further contextualises its narrative within the broader theme of Divinity, Energy, and Bodies by discussing the seclusion of anchoresses as a means of resisting patriarchal intrusion and controlling access to bodies and sexuality. This dual focus on Gender, Sexuality, and Social Change, along with considerations of Divinity, Energy, and Bodies, provides a nuanced understanding of how historical boundaries of sexed and gendered bodies and narratives are shaped and suppressed—ultimately contributing to our knowledge of gendered and sexed transgressions in the Middle Ages
