The art more geometrico: Emotions, measure, and mixed art forms in Plato: L’arte more geometrico: Emozioni, misura e forme d’arte miste in Platone
The aim of this paper is to present some aspects of the correlation between tragedy and comedy from some passages of Platonic dialogues, in order to show that this connection goes back to three reasons: the cultural background from which the dialogues are inspired, where similar contaminations between tragedy and comedy are attested; the mixture of pleasure and pain, typical above all of mixed pleasures and disordered souls; the awareness of the above-mentioned mixtures, proper only to souls subject to the domain of reason. Moreover, there are some hints at the possibility of a philosophical drama, where problems of popular art are absent, thanks to the knowledge of reality.

In Phaedrus, the myth of Thoth explicitly alludes to Egypt and it is possible to find parallels with texts written in Egyptian, showing that Plato had some knowledge of Egyptian philosophy. This article will highlight some of the parallels and comment on this bibliography, since they are articles and chapters written in different languages and that do not converse with each other. It will comment on the Book of Thoth and discuss the thematic similarities with the tale Setne I, in relation to the dual role of writing as φάρμακον. It will then examine the relationship between Egyptian texts and Phaedrus. In doing so, it will be possible not only to show the state of the art of this discussion, but also to explore in greater depth the issues surrounding these two divergent conceptions of the role of writing and the transmission of knowledge.O mito de Thoth no Fedro alude explicitamente ao Egito e é possível encontrar paralelos com textos escritos em egípcio, evidenciando que Platão teria algum conhecimento sobre a Filosofia Egípcia.
The construction of the Hospital Santo António station, part of the pink line of the Porto Metro, involved overcoming significant challenges. This study highlights the obstacles faced during the execution project and the innovative solutions adopted. The presence of a road tunnel, the existence of an underground watercourse, the need to preserve tree species and the minimization of disturbances on residences and traffic were the most relevant challenges. The solution adopted was an underground structure composed of large-section tunnels, large-diameter shafts, and inclined tunnels for access to the station. The methodologies used, such as NATM (New Austrian Tunneling Method) for tunnels and sequential vertical excavation for shafts, consider the terrain properties. The effectiveness of the solution in mitigating environmental impacts is noteworthy, as well as its potential for adoption in future underground structure projects in complex urban environments.

In this text we will discuss the issue of divided property rights in the Early Modern and Modern Era, in particular those embodied in the legal entity of emphyteusis. We have organized this text into four parts: In the first, we trace the evolution of the emphyteusis from a long-term perspective, but focusing more sharply on the Ancien Régime period; In the second entitled "Two domains: direct and useful, we present, in the context of divided property, the rights that emphyteutical contracts conferred on the holders of direct and useful domains; In the third, we address the question of the composition of emphyteutical rent and the methods of collection; Finally, in the fourth we present the problem of the duration of contracts: from perpetual to life terms. From a legal point of view, the emphyteusis was only extinguished by the 1976 Constitution. The time between the liberal revolution (1820) proclaiming private property and its extinction is indicative of its social embeddedness but also of its resistance to change, a phenomenon that can be called "path dependance".
The study of emphyteusis, from a legal history perspective, but above all from an economic and social history perspective, is essential to understanding the norms and practices that regulated access to and enjoyment of natural resources — particularly land and water — by various social groups in the following ways: as a means of subsistence for peasants and artisans, as a source of income for individuals seeking social ascension, as a form of financing for ecclesiastical and aristocratic households, for charitable institutions, hospitals, universities, and other entities, and finally, as a business opportunity for tax farmers.
Approaches to Byzantine Heritage of Istanbul in Early Republican Turkish Newspapers
After the pronunciation of the newly founded Turkish Republic in 1923, the capital was moved from Istanbul to Ankara. Value attributions toward Istanbul, a strong symbol for the Ottoman Empire as its former capital, has changed during this period, along with the redefinition of a Turkish identity and a new Turkish state. Investments were directed to the new capital and to other designated centers of industrial development. Istanbul, on the other hand, was deliberately redefined as “the historic city”, and this became vivid through the promotion of selected Byzantine landmarks and archaeological sites. The meanings held by this architectural heritage were re-narrated and secularized, disregarding attributions to both of the former empires, medieval Christian and early modern Islamic alike. Newspapers covered an abundance of news on the Byzantine architectural and archaeological heritage of the city, hinting the new state policies towards them with the intent of creating a new image for Istanbul. Covered news included archaeological surveys, visits of scientists, opinions of prominent figures on the evaluation of this heritage, and repair works done on Byzantine monuments, including detailed reports of resurfacing Byzantine mosaics. The refunctioning of Hagia Sophia as a museum in 1935, its transformation and preliminary archaeological surveys before and during the rearrangement have capaciously found their reflection in the newspapers, appearing almost daily. This paper aims to portray the coverage of Byzantine heritage related news in the newspapers of early republican Turkey, and explain how this portrayal served to create a public opinion compatible with the state policies of the period
Costume studies as a method of approaching the Middle Ages: the case of Josep Puiggarí i Llobet (1821-1903) and his Estudios de Indumentaria Española
This paper reflects on the recovery of the medieval heritage that took place in Catalonia in the 19th century and its relationship with the emergence of a national consciousness. To do so, we are going to examine the case of Josep Puiggarí i Llobet (1821-1903), a scholar devoted to the study of costume, born and raised in the nineteenth-century bourgeois Barcelona. In Puiggarí’s work, art and costume are two inseparable elements: he used the figurative arts to deepen his knowledge of costume and, at the same time, costume was an essential tool for the study of art, since it allowed him to study its transformation over time and, on occasions, to precisely date artistic pieces. Overshadowed by the scholars of a later generation, who were directly linked to the rise of political Catalanism at the end of the century, we aim to make Josep Puiggarí’s graphic and intellectual work known, through the analysis of one of his most outstanding pieces entitled Estudios de Indumentaria Española concreta y comparada. This work allows us to question how this type of study is the result of the growing concern for heritage and interest in national history in nineteenth-century European industrial societies. It also invites us to reflect on the romantic conception of medieval history in this period
