    Get PDF
Climate change and excessive anthropogenic activities have an impact on coral reef damage. Coral reef damage can be seen from several criteria, one of which is the percentage of live coral cover. North Lombok is one of the districts on Lombok Island whose coral cover has been damaged.  This research aims to identify marine biota, coral reef genus, analyze community structure and condition of coral reefs at Mentigi Beach. Coral reef genus data was taken using Coral Finder 2.0 Indo Pacific by Russel Kelley, while coral reef data was obtained using the UPT (Underwater Photo Transect) method at three stations with depths of 1-5 meters and 6-10 meters. The results showed that live coral cover at stations I, II, and III were 12.44%, 17.42%, and 32.46%, respectively. At a depth of 1-5 meters, it was found to be 21.93%, and 19.62% at a depth of 6-10 meters. There are 11 benthic categories, and 30 coral reef genera identified. The Porites genus is cosmopolitan in the research location. The diversity, evenness and dominance indices show that coral reef genera are evenly distributed with no one dominating the coral reef ecosystem at Mentigi Beach, Pamenang, North Lombok Regency

Students’ limited ability to connect theoretical concepts with real-life phenomena, coupled with monotonous lecture-based teaching, has led to low engagement in learning. This study investigates the effect of the Quantum Learning model on students’ metacognitive skills and scientific reasoning. Using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group, the study involved 41 tenth-grade students at SMA 1 Labuapi, divided into an experimental group (n = 20) and a control group (n = 21), selected through saturated sampling. The Metacognitive Skills Scale (MSS), adapted from Mustafa and Nuray, and a scientific reasoning test based on the Classroom Test of Scientific Reasoning (CTSR) developed by Lawson, were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests at a significance level of α = 0.05. Results showed significant improvement in both groups, with the experimental group experiencing greater gains in metacognitive skills (mean diff. = -20.050; SD = 5.624; p = 0.000) and scientific reasoning (mean diff. = -32.200; SD = 5.978; p = 0.000) compared to the control group (metacognitive: -11.905; SD = 5.558; scientific reasoning: -14.619; SD = 5.826; both p = 0.000). These findings indicate that the Quantum Learning model is effective in enhancing metacognitive awareness as well as scientific reasoning and is recommended for use in science education to improve student engagement and thinking skills

Sponge organisms are primitive organisms originating from the phylum porifera. These organisms have pores throughout their bodies and have filter feeder properties. Sponges have habitats around coral reef ecosystems, seagrass habitats and in shallow waters. In Tanjung Senja Waters, there are stone mining activities by the community so that research is needed as initial data to determine the types of major sponges in Tanjung Senja waters. On the other hand, apart from being a component of coral reefs, sponges are also natural materials that have the potential to be bioactive compounds that can be developed in the pharmaceutical field. The research was carried out using the free collection method and the sampling point was selected based on the presence of sponges. Water quality parameters were observed in situ or direct observation including temperature, salinity, pH and brightness data.  This study found 3 types of major sponges, namely Callyspongia aerizusa, Stylotella aurantium and Xestospongia sp. This stone mining activity still does not affect the growth of sponges in the waters, this is marked by the results of checking the environmental parameters that have been carried out, it can be concluded that the existence of this sponge is influenced by environmental parameters such as temperature 30oC, current velocity 4.17cm/s, depth 5m, brightness 100%, salinity 33‰ and pH 8, this condition is still at the threshold of quality standards for marine life based on Kep-MENLH No. 51 of 2004
