A corpus-based analysis of Japanese university-level leaners' L2 writing development over a one-year period
Full text linkThis paper describes the development and analysis of a longitudinal learner corpus comprised of Japanese university students’ English writing over the period of one year. Students completed two writing tasks, a narrative and an argumentative essay, in response to the same prompts at two points in time one year apart. The resulting subcorpora are analyzed and compared with respect to fluency, lexical diversity, grammatical accuracy and use of rhetorical/cohesive devices. Gains were observed in these areas, most notably in fluency and lexical diversity. Methodological issues in analyzing grammatical accuracy and use of rhetorical/cohesive devices render interpretation of these results less conclusive. Patterns of observed developments in these four areas are discussed, followed by an acknowledgement of the limitations of the study and considerations for directions in further research
An Attempt at a New Approach to Translation Shift
Full text linkThis paper attempts to develop a new framework of translation shift. One classical model of translation shift is Catford's, which systematically analyses level shift and category shift. However, this model is based on the static analysis of the classical comparative linguistics. This paper, on the other hand, focuses on linguistics structural shift and operational shift, attempting to develop a new analytical procedure and methodology based on cognitive linguistic typology
Expansion of Rogers's model -Apply to analysis of Business Phenomenon-

The other expansion is concept of "selective communications". To analyze a diffusion of innovations especially in industry, we introduce a view of "Business Systems". The Asymmetric Effects of Monetary Policy on Regional Economies in Japan:Evidence from VECM Estimation
Full text linkThis paper examines how monetary policy has variant impacts on regional economies in Japan.Estimating VECM for the endogenous macro and regional variables.I find that(1)the depth and the duration of monetary policy shock's effects on each prefecture's bank lending and real output varies,and(2)the lower the value of mortgage the larger monetary policy effect regional economy experiences.This empirical evidence indicates the "balance sheet channel"of monetary policy functions well in Japan
Overcoming the Problems Inherent in Cap & Trade Programs Proposals for a New Emissions Trading System
Full text linkAlthough Cap & Trade schemes may seem rational, they have one extremely difficult problem; how to determine a fair and acceptable allowance (upper limit) for each participant.For the purpose of overcoming this problem, three proposals are made in this article.The first proposal is that every year the central government allocates a year's worth of emission credits to each participant at a fixed price. The second proposal is to define the accounting procedures to be used by manufacturers or consuming participants in a way thato enables them to tracethat allows the close relationship between the level of greenhouse gas emissions and the costs accrued by their business activities. TVET challenges in APEC economies
Full text linkTechnical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is one of the current controversial issues in the world. Facing globalization and transition to the knowledge economy, the importance of TVET is recognized by every economy. Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has been organizing APEC Forum on Human Resource Development since 1992. As a coordinator and chairperson of this Forum (since 2003), I point out the controversial aspects and the role of APEC in the field of TVET. The focus is on standardization of competencies,effective and efficient division of labor among TVET stakeholders, and TVET political strategies for APEC economies
A Qualitative Study of Mixed Level Student's Attitudes towards Studying English Discursive Communication with the Use of an Instructional Blog Site.
Full text linkThis paper examines English students' attitudes towards a web blog that was employed as an instructional tool in order to facilitate and build on study performed in the classroom. Following a selected overview of previous studies into the pedagogical benefits of web blogging, a description of the instructional aims of the researchers' web blogs is outlined. The effectiveness of the research is then assessed with reference to data taken from student response questionnaire data. Recommendations made in light of this data suggest that future research could focus upon ways to improve the effectiveness and presentation of future course web blogs
