A study on halal procurement maturity model by case study research:For theory construction of supplier management for halal food production
Get PDFThis study investigates supplier management practices for halal food production. Its aims are to compare the practices to the halal procurement maturity model and to explore key factors influencing the practices. In order to achieve the aims, the researcher has adopted multiple case studies. Given that companies in a developed halal industry could be classified into a superior stage in the model and that the company size has an effect on the practices of supplier management, the data have been collected from four food manufacturers of different sizes operating in Malaysia with Malaysian halal certification. The findings show that three of them—including a large manufacturer—were categorized into a first stage in the model and that influential factors of “ reliability of halal certification, ” “ the type of utilized materials,” and “global sourcing” emerged from the collected data, implying that “ available resources for supplier management ” derived from company size is a necessary condition. Based on the findings, it is possible that the model is too simplified to explain the practices of supplier management for halal food production, because the factors led to various differences in the supplier management practices considered in this study. Therefore, the halal procurement maturity model needs to be further developed in future research
