    No full text
Within an anthropological framework, the social process of progressive contextualization of individuals, of acquisition of cultural resources, and of the necessary expertise and knowledge to move culturally and meaningfully into the social space is intended in terms of a progressive reduction of indeterminacy [Geertz 1987; Remotti 2013]. It is a process that produces new members of a society based on more or less rigid patterns. Starting from the evidence that uncertainty of the future unfolds contemporary societies, I propose a reflection on the processes that can cause a social expansion of uncertainty. From a theoretical point of view and on the basis of ethnographic indexes I present an analysis of some conditions that erode the sense of belonging, that kind of "feel at home" which is premise and result of social relationships based on the management of uncertainty of the future, and provoke moral and material conflicts (and even violence)

Growing up in the age of uncertainty. Some anthropological comments on the case of Lombardy

    No full text
This paper will focus on the cultural representations of the present economic crisis in young people living in Lombardy. It is based on the data gathered through 700 questionnaires administered to high-school senior students in that region during school year 2013/2014, as well as on 75 in-depth interviews with young people aged 18-31 living in Milan.Using those data concerning, on the one hand, young people considering whether to continue their study and, on the other hand, young people who completed their formal education and are now facing up to a challenging labour market, this paper puts forward some observations on “growing up in times of uncertainty”, i.e. on how the new generations represent their own future and their responsibility in making change possible

    Etnografia dell’incertezza. Note introduttive

    No full text

    No full text
The second half of the nineteenth century witness an anthropology that from the narrow scientific fields shifts to the forestage of exhibitions and universal expositions. It takes a more essentiallypopular, pedagogical and often absolutely spectacular capacity and role, using archeomedia’s technological know-how, like peepshow, stereoscopy, magic lantern, panorama and moving panorama, diorama, stereorama and cinerama. On closer inspection, it is indeed a reciprocal exchange: these means of entertainment too, in turn willingly draw from ethnography to put on stage an exoticism which is more and more alluring, prurient, feral, and also revolting, but which does pay well at the box office. It is a variegated Otherness which turns up, sometimes near, some other three-dimensional andtangible, in other words “alive”; it follows postures and is in relation with activities, situations and environments which instead hypostasize and strictly control it, thus reasserting the hegemony of a western perspective which depicts intriguing “postcards” of this otherness, and puts a price on it with the complicity of Anthropology; rather with a certain Anthropology which embellishes the world, changing it in a sort of ethno-show

    No full text
The article is based on documentations collected in field research conducted in sanctuaries and places of worship in South and Central Italy, since the early Seventies of last century until the first decade of the present one. The article presents an interpretation of the ex voto like a kind of storytelling of the experience lived by the devotee who claims to have had contact with the powerful Otherness. These votive tales, packed with painted images, photos, installations of various materials, written texts, are compared to the hagiographies of the Saints and exemplary stories which the devotee takes as specimen to present and tell publicly his own story of suffering and salvation

    No full text
This paper describes the major changes that have marked the wedding rituals at the dawn of the Communist regime in Russia. During this transition, the soviet weddings have inevitably drawn from the emerging local traditions reflecting the cultural diversity of the Soviet Union at that time. With specific focus on Ukraine, this paper seeks to show how pictures, thoroughly grouped in a photographic corpus, reveal evidence of that change as well as of those mixed cultural patterns characterising the Western Ukraine families during communism

«Era di pietra la sua bellezza». Capri, mitografia di un luogo

    No full text
In the article I present, according to a cultural studies approach that includes the use of literary sources and images, a mythographical profile, although necessarily brief and not exhaustive, about the island of Capri in the bay of Naples, prodigy of natural beauty out of time, as a result of a singular combination of stone, sky, sea and light. This profile, giving back some features of its historical and cultural identity and the complex relationships that have crossed its land over time, by producing diverse and unique representations and narrations, lets discuss this Mediterranean island as anthropological place in the meaning that Marc Augé gives it. Finally, it is highlighted its recent transformation, coinciding with pervasive processes of globalization of the economy and culture of the past three decades, towards a possible nonplace

    No full text
This article ethnographically explores the form and the content of juridical practices of Guarani people living in the Capitanías of Charagua Norte and Alto Isoso, Bolivia. Starting from the Bolivian legal pluralism main field and through the analysis of some juridical case study, I answer some questions about how the Guarani people act and interpret the legal field in a plural legal context. I argue that such guarani people practice is both rooted in an interlegal field of sense and meaning and product of a legal and political strategy useful to hide and protect the indigenous juridical habitus

    No full text
Bastia is a small town in Umbria; in recent decades it has become a great commercial and industrial development, with the presence of so many immigrants. The Palio di San Michele, from 50 years, is the city festival, which takes place during one week in September, with sports competitions, theater performances, the "lizza" (the relay game).Bastia is not a major city, it is not a destination for cultural tourism, but the Palio represents in an exemplary way as a festival can "create" a community, a place of gathering of young and adolescents. Analyzing some festive models, the essay reflects on new perspectives for the study of the festival, with an emphasis on new categories of festival in relation to the territorial identity
