Riannodare le fila del tempo: l’attesa, la perdita e il lutto

    No full text
This article explores the relationship between the loss of a pregnancy and temporality. Based on an ethnography of support groups in Milan, it examines how time is experienced during pregnancy, loss and mourning. Focusing on pregnancy loss, the article aims to contribute to a more general understanding of the beginnings and ends of life and of the experience of time at these thresholds. Grief following pregnancy loss is not experienced as a linear and temporally-bound process but as an enduring affective state which is socially shared within support groups, and is integrated in bereaved parent’s life course

Concetti globali per categorie socialmente impreviste: le politiche di «salute sessuale e riproduttiva» rivolte alle madri non sposate in Marocco

This contribution discusses the deployment of the global category of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) in Morocco by focusing on the case of the pregnancies occurring outside marriage, that do not conform to local social, legal, religious norms. Attention will be drawn particularly to the initiatives promoted by NGOs which, while providing social and medical care to young unmarried mothers upon specific eligibility criteria, also target them with “sexual education”. I argue that such activities – dealing mostly with risk prevention – re-moralize and normalize female non-normative sexuality by striving to enhance the subjects’ individual responsibility, without explicitly addressing health and sexual rights

La ricomposizione del tessuto territoriale. Fra tradizione e dispersione

    No full text
The article aims to examine how following a natural disaster, in this case the 2009 earthquake in Abruzzo (Central Italy), the reconstruction can be directed towards different projects that may have as a result the reconstitution of the affected communities, or their dispersion. In the first case we will examine the importance of tradition in the reconstruction project implemented by the Goriano community in the province of L’Aquila to give meaning to the affected areas, also through witness’ interviews. In the case of L’Aquila, on the other hand, we opted for the construction of a polycentric new town, which in fact dispersed people and disrupted the social structure

Salute sessuale e riproduttiva: un concetto da rivedere?

This article intends to re-examine the concept of sexual and reproductive health twenty-five years after its introduction, in relation to the development of anthropological theories and anthropological research. This paper aims to be an introduction to the essays on this topic presented at II SIAM Conference in Perugia, dedicated to Tullio Seppilli

Saggio sulla fortuna. Le casualità fortuite nelle traiettorie biografiche delle giovani milanesi

The topic of luck has recently attracted new interest in anthropological literature, focusing on its role in understanding economic cosmologies. Lucky chances stand out in comparative perspective as a crucial cultural theme in contemporary western society, where the notion that unpredictability is a key feature of the social world is emphasized. I explore this topic in a research based on in-depth interviews with young women having finished education during the post-crisis years in Milan. A comparison is drawn between the narratives of university educated women and women who left school early

Pratiche contestate. Controversie legali tra comunità patrimoniali e attivismo animalista

    No full text
The paper starts from critical animal studies and animal rights debate but also focuses on new roles for ethnographers in the field as mediators and engaged researchers. This introduces a case-study of a group of ceremonials involving animals in the South of Italy (Molise), recently accused of abuses by animal rights movements. The aroused legal dispute was solved through a mediation process in which anthropologists and vets were engaged as experts working with local communities and their legal representatives. A new set of rules was, then, established coherently with national codes for animal welfare

Filiazione e genitorialità fra pratiche, rappresentazioni e diritto: il caso dell’omogenitorialità in Italia

The parent-child relationship is a dynamic, socially and legally constructed relationship. The relationship between filiation and parenting calls in play the ties between social construction and ideology of kinship and its normative determination. Through the analysis of two sentences on lesbian and gay parenting, we analyze the way in which the request for the legal recognition of homoparenting produces a circulation of cultural, symbolic and scientific references between society and the courts. These judgments call in play the legal relationships and the actions of the subjects capable of producing new legal regulations and new representations of family, parenting and filiation ties

    Il pungiglione di ferro

We propose here a first circumscribed contribution on a research in which, thanks to a focused case study, we would like to evaluate the relationships between anthropology and art limited to those artists who consciously privileged anthropological themes in sculpture, painting and theater. We intend more in detail to focus on those who base their performative experimentation on an anthropological practice also acquired through university studies and experiences of ethnographic research, having therefore with the ethno-anthropological disciplines a clear contiguity, a sedimented and conscious relationship. We are interested in knowing which formal and conceptual topoi, which models and which values deriving from anthropological theory and practice can be translated into the field and in an artistic key, with which purposes and which results. Here we propose a first case, the metallic sculptures of Rosaria Iazzetta

Costruire la pace tra violenze, illegalità e diseguaglianze: la sfida del municipio indigeno di Cherán, Messico

Actually, Mexico is confronting a generalized violence linked to conflicts among drug cartels, the state and extractive companies for the control of territory and of legal and illegal sectors of the economy. In 2011 the inhabitants of Cherán, an indigenous municipality of Michoacán, Mexico, matched the criminal group responsible for kidnapping, extortion and illegal felling of the wood in the communal territory. Crossing contributions from anthropology and Peace Research, the paper describes the conflict and the community responses to violence through the process of peace formation
