Gastronomia tradizionale uguale sviluppo locale?
Traditional food is a resource for local development. This is a common thesis in public, international debate. In a context of overall impoverishment of the rural communities, it suggests a bright future for those communities that embrace the mantra. This paper tackles the thesis, presenting a vivid ethnography of Southern Piedmont (Italy) foodscape. Focusing on the ethnographic research concerning the gastronomy of agnolotti, a traditional kind of ravioli, it points out the limits of the actual economic contribution that the revival of traditional gastronomy. However, it highlights the positive impact in matter of social and cultural cohesion that the revival and promotion of food traditions can have on the local level
Diritti negoziati. Trasformazioni sociali e pratiche giuridiche
This introduction discusses the rhetoric of the 'rule of law'. Based on various ethnographies, it reflect on negotiating order to which legal and illegal definitions are subject in the practice of social agents. The aim is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the legal anthropological perspective in eradicating the legal monism and in discussing the hegemony of rule of law, shifting attention to the plurality of normative available to rights holders. The paper focuses on the interstices between law and politics and on the new issues that have arisen in the contemporary. These require an openness to an idea of law less dogmatic and hegemonic and therefore flexible, dialogic and negotiated
The aim of this article is to reinterpret Tylor’s reflection on myth, avoiding what Stocking defines as a presentist approach. I will try to contextualize the vision of the Victorian Author firstly by saying that he was neither a direct descendent of Darwin nor even an evolutionist. Secondly, I will try to demonstrate that the continuist perspective of the relationship between myth and science, reproposed by the neo-intellectualists, can be accepted even today, provided we also emphasize the differences between the two phenomena: differences which, in substance, amount to the absence of a self-critical attitude in the builder of myths. Were such attitude present, after all, myths would not exist
The arrival of the poet W.H. Auden and his partner C. Kallman at Forio, in Ischia island, at the end of 1940s, is considered as the beginning of the cultured, homophilic and unprejudiced period that persisted through the 1960s, the era when the largest island of the Campanian Archipelago became the site of a massive and pervasive mass tourism. Foreign artists and intellectuals established on the island, who were protagonists of erotic practices considered reprehensible, gave birth to a complex social phenomenon in which the locals, by elaborating an appropriate cultural background, played an ambiguous role in the relationship with the guests and the transformation of the local society
This paper focuses on lgbt catholics and the ways in which theytry to manage the presumed discontinuity of homosexuality and Christianity[O'Brien 2004, 179]. It is drawn from my MA and PhD fieldwork among lgbtCatholics groups in Italy and the ways in which they negotiate their presenceand formulates their tactics [De Certeau 1980] of mobilization within theVatican Church. These tactics involve, among others, the importance ofsetting up an informal dialogue with people in flesh and bone by re-castingthe concept of Christian witnessing, the importance of being in a lovingrelationship, the use of an inclusive theology by challenging the applicabilityand relevance of some so-called «homophobic» biblical passages in today'ssocio-historical context and the importance of reconciliation within theChurch by avoiding to struggle against it. By questioning the concept of"agency" as an attitude to subvert and rebel against the dominant situation[Mahmood 2005], I take into account the experiences of the lgbt Catholisgroups in Italy and the ways in which they give sense of what it means to beCatholics
The essay seeks to portray the role played by the Shevchenko Scientific Society in the development of the Ukrainian ethnography with a special focus on scholarly research and the extensive publishing activity carried out by its members. Furthermore, it will examine the task of the Ethnographic Commission, an institution created to outline the steps of scientific advances and chart the way forward for the then emerging practice of ethnographic studies. The interplay between specialised publishing and the role of a supervising commission allowed for the Ukrainian culture to cross national borders and distinguish itself internationally for its exclusive and unique elements
«Movimenti religiosi di libertà e di salvezza dei popoli oppressi» di Vittorio Lanternari. Problemi di metodo e fortuna del testo
The method followed by Lanternari in the research, published in 1960, is based on the historic method as understood by Benedetto Croce, the philosopher who dominated the Italian cultural scene in the first half of the twentieth century and is opposed to the revival of religious studies, initiated by Raffaele Pettazzoni, which is often associated with the work of Lanternari. The Lanternari approach and the themes of his book Movimenti religiosi libertà e di salvezza were at the center of the national and international debate in the post-war era, and more specifically exchanges on popular cultures and religions (through confrontation with the works of Antonio Gramsci and Ernesto De Martino), but also on religion in colonial situation (through the works of Georges Balandier). The article relates the binary interpretive models that characterize this book (oppressor and oppressed, dominant and dominated, colonial and colonized peoples) with the expectations of the political and cultural time of macro-alliances. It concludes with the question of his legacy today in terms of challenges to the history and anthropology of religion
Cosa significa abitare in periferia?
Over the last fifteen years, if we focus on the northern outskirts of Bologna and study the settlement patterns of the foreign citizens in order to read the territory, the dialectic South / North seems to take on more importance than the duality center / periphery. In recent years, however, there’s a new trend not readable through merely quantitative data and that is the formation of areas - blocks, housing estates – strongly affected by the presence of “second generation” immigrants. I began to wonder: how did the municipal area change in recent years and how should we call these suburbs
Scene da un "matrimonio". Performance, genere e identità a Napoli
In this paper, after having synthetically reconstructed the traditional role of the femminielli in Neapolitan society, intertwining linguistic analysis with historical, anthropological, literary and mythographic sources, and highlighting complex processes of molding and reshaping, I will focus on the singular ritual of “marriage”, by using visual material collected in the field during an ethnographic research carried out in Naples in 2010. Combining a perspective of diachronic analysis with a synchronic one, the deep cultural nature of the practices of construction of gender and of the social identity of such gender variant subjectivities is shown through the analysis of a still persistent traditional ritual device in a contemporary metropolitan context. Concepts as performance and gynomimetics are used for this analysis and the strong participation of the neighborhood community in their social life is highlighted
