Legami in diaspora: madri, figli e genere nelle famiglie transnazionali.

    No full text
After briefly examining the pronatalist policy of Ceausescu's regimen and its consequences on women's reproductive health, some results of female emigration from Romania to Italy are taken into consideration, as the phenomenon of children left behind. What is called Sindrom Italia is also examined: this interpretation of distress presented as consequence of migration is becoming increasingly common among Romanian psychiatrists and in public and media arena. Both children left behind and SindromItalia contribute to blaming migrant women, and to spreading a moral panic, hiding both the women’s efforts of to maintain ties in the diaspora, and the economic and structural reasons behind the migration. Public and media discourses are also meant in order to create a regimen of truth about the proper women position in Rumanian society

L'inventario di un universo. Antropologia e letteratura in Corrado Alvaro

    No full text
Some of Corrado Alvaro's works, especially those regarding Calabria, are often evaluated not only for their literary value, but also for their documentary value. The article summarizes some points of the post-modern debate on ethnographic writing and moves in that area of compatibility which anthropologists and literary critics converse. The different contrasts that seem to constantly characterize Alvaro's works - country/world, metahistory/history, magical realism/realism - once composed and read in their entirety, reveal a specific structure which is implied in most of his literature. The landscape, in particular, is the element that makes everything coherent, and allows us to understand some specific dynamics  of Alvaro's memory

Violenza ostetrica. Le potenzialità politico-formative di un concetto innovativo

    No full text
In Latin America, over the past decade, the term “obstetric violence” has become part of the legal framework. Specific laws against obstetric violence–gender-based violence and the violation of human rights – exist in Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Uruguay. In the European countries a political, social and medical debate on the matter is still weak. In this article, I focus on the political and formative potential of this novel concept, according to the results of the anthropological research project “Obstetric Violence”. The new goal for research, policies and human rights on childbirth”

    No full text

Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART/ PMA) are changing the very concept of filiation and kinship, including the role of mother. If contraception has freed women from unwanted pregnancies, separating sexuality from procreation, ART separate reproduction from sexuality, creating more roles related to motherhood and paternity. A technocratic model of birth comes along, starting from a mechanistic view of the body, in which places, times and procedures are standardized and the woman is seen more as a patient. Even "surrogacy" raises important ethical, legal and cultural issues, which also involves the LGTB movement. The essay investigates these problems starting from the critical observations of anthropologists, jurists and gender theorists. The contrast to medicalization does not arise as an opposition to scientific development, but from the experience of working and reading scientific data of many operators in the maternal and child area. Women can passively live the socially constructed conception of the body, or question it, and elaborate forms of critical subjectivity with respect to the medical approach
