    In this poster, we present our effort to create a large quantity of Linked Data from Japan’s largest scholarly search engine. We design OpenSearch RSS and Bibliography RDF using standard vocabularies. As a result over 20 million articles with Linked Data are available on the Web

    For the seriality and dynamicity character of the serials, describing and structuring the bibliographic relationship levels play significant roles in identifying, selecting, and formulating to meet the integration requirements of NSTL systems. In this poster, we define the relationship types of serials and used different level identifiers --Super-Work-ID, Work-ID, Expression-ID, Manifestation-ID- - to describe and link relationship levels and to publish those representations using standard OAI-PMH protocols so that relationships and links can be harvested, stored, searched or browsed anywhere

    Federated Searching System for Humanities Databases Using Automatic Metadata Mapping

    Recently, many collections and resources in libraries and museums or research institutes are digitized and opened to the public. As there are many humanities databases, it is not easy for users to detect demanded information since users must input different information for each databases. This poster aims to construct a federated searching system for humanities databases with only one query input. In order to realize a federated searching system, metadata mapping for attribute-names is needed to absorb difference of input for each database. Therefore, in this poster, we propose a method of automatic metadata mapping using metadata elements that are compressed from Dublin Core Metadata elements

    Multilayered Paper Prototyping for User Concept Modeling: Supporting the Development of Application Profiles

    This paper describes an investigation of user-centered design methodologies intended to apply to metadata or information architecture evaluation and deployment. The primary focus of this work is investigation of user conceptual models and comparison with formally architected models. We describe related work, primarily from the domain of information architecture, such as free-listing, contextual enquiry, card-sorting and evaluation, and then describes the design, initial evaluation and practical use of a multi-stage prototyping method designed for elicitation of user knowledge and concepts of a domain, common conceptual models in that domain and the objects, collections and relations between objects considered relevant by users. A simple approach to the analysis of results is described

    Many audiovisual archives are in the process of digitising their material and are exploring the new possibilities this brings to publish their content online. This project report provides insight into the background and development of the award winning Video Active Portal (thousands of video items are accessible through www.videoactive.eu) and its successor EUscreen; initiatives offering access to television heritage material from archives across Europe. In this report, the authors will firstly outline the work done in Video Active and will elaborate on the architecture of EUscreen that will expand the possibilities for connecting data across cultural heritage organizations in a meaningful way

    A Unified Approach for Representing Metametadata

    Using metametadata like provenance on the statement level has been proposed as a possible solution to some -- if not most -- problems that occur in a metadata aggregation context. Examples for these problems are the information loss that occurs during metadata format conversion or the alignment of disparate metadata quality. Until now, no feasible way to store and manage meta information has been proposed. In this paper, we suggest the use of RDF reification as an elegant way to fill this gap that in addition adheres to all standards and recommendations. We demonstrate this approach by the means of two scenarios: First, an enhancement for metadata crosswalks that supports the maintenance of the converted metadata, and second the use of metametadata for the efficient integration of subject annotations from different sources

    Archiving and Management of Digital Images Based on an Embedded Metadata Framework

    Digital image files and metadata are two critical and functionally-related components in digital archiving and management. However, as metadata and digital image files are independent, such applications have proven to be relatively difficult. This research attempts to develop metadata storage and exchange through extended techniques of embedded metadata in order to combine information in files with files themselves and further extend and control other related information. A structure of Embedded Metadata Framework (EMF) will be planned as a reference platform for development of embedded metadata in the digital archive system. Finally, hurdles remaining in such applications will be addressed for the purpose of future researches

    This project report details work carried out in collaboration between the University of Southampton and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information, focussing on an RDF dataset of academic authors and publications. Activities included the conversion of the dataset to produce Linked Data, the identification of co-references in and between datasets, and the development of an ontology mapping service to facilitate the integration of the dataset with an existing Semantic Web application, RKBExplorer.com
