EFFECT OF BENTONITE ON FRESH AND HARDENED PROPERTY OF SELF COMPACTING CONCRETE

    Get PDF
Self compacting concrete can be described as a high performance material which flows under its own weight without requiring vibrators to achieve consolidation by complete filling of formworks even when access is hindered by narrow gaps between reinforcement bars. Self compacting concrete required a large amount of binder (paste) and chemical admixtures. This paper presents the use of bentonite in self compacting concrete as viscosity modifying agent (VMA). Bentonite as VMA and other chemical admixture which are liquid form of VMA are compared to check the fresh and hardened properties of self compacting concrete such as, Slump flow, funnel, L-box , sieve stability tests, further compressive strength of the self compacting concrete at the age of 28 days was determined

    Get PDF
The main focusing of this study is to examine empirically the connection between female secondary school enrollment and economic growth of Pakistan taking the period of 1975-2014. The variables of the series passed the test of stationary by the first difference as evaluated by the ADF and PP test. Therefore, by employing the Johansen test of cointegration, the result shows that female secondary school enrollment and labor employment have insignificantly long run positive influence on economic growth, however, capital formation has significantly positive impact on economic growth of Pakistan. The Granger causality test based on VECM shows that female secondary school enrollment and GDP have long run two-way causality, however, the short run bidirectional causality does not exist but unidirectional causality, which is running from GDP to female secondary school enrollment.Â

    Get PDF
Managing working capital efficiently and effectively is critical for modern organizations as it directly affects firm’s profitability, liquidity and riskiness. A vast majority of empirical studies have focused on developed countries whereas in case of developing countries like Pakistan it is somewhat under researched. The economy of Pakistan is passing through challenging times with rising inflation, energy crisis, poor law and order etc. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to investigate whether working capital policies adopted by listed organizations within the sugar industry of Pakistan (PSX) are efficient or not in these challenging conditions and what kind of effect (positive or negative) they have on the profitability of the firm. Data from 2006 to 2015 was collected for this study and Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) technique was used to analyse the effect of working capital management on firm profitability. Empirical results of the study show that all four components of working capital used in this study have statistically significant and negative relationship with firm’s profitability.Â

    Get PDF
Global contribution of energy consumption of building sector, both residential and commercial, is very high and steadily increased. In buildings, chief energy consumer is heating ventilation &air conditioning (HVAC) system used for thermal comfort and maintaining indoor air quality. Building envelope plays vital role in regulating indoor thermal comfort conditions as it is interface between indoor and outdoor environment. The key component of building envelop are walls, roof, floor and fenestrations. Energy consumption of HVAC system can be reduced up to desired limit by using different methods in construction of building envelop. One of these innovative methods is use of phase change materials (PCM).  PCM are considered as a possible solution for controlling energy demand of buildings. PCM\u27s are substances that can absorb and release thermal energy by changing their phase from solid to liquid at room temperature and stabilize thermal comfort inside the building with reduced carbon dioxide emissions. In this paper recent developments in the field of PCMs, their application in building envelop, incorporation and their influence on energy reduction are reviewed.Key Words: Energy consumption, Building Envelope, Phase Change Material (PCM)
