What Dictates the Dividend-Payout Decision of Corporations? A Case Study of Firms Listed at Karachi Stock Excahnge
Dividend decision is one of the very crucial factors that have a bearing on the long-term value of a firm. According to the traditional approach, firms that pay larger dividends happen to have escalated share prices compared to those that pay lower or no dividends. There have been previous studies conducted to explore what factors make a firm pay or ignore paying dividends for a given year. However, no consensus has been achieved so far by the researchers as to what really determines a firm’s dividend payout decision. This study is an attempt to re-examine some of the very major considerations a firm takes into account while deciding about the declaration, or otherwise, of dividends. To serve the purpose, the required financial information was obtained from ‘Financial Statement Analysis’ of Non-financial companies published by the State Bank of Pakistan. Sixty one (61) firms were included in the sample having thorough six year financial data ranging from 2006 to 2011 which led to a total of 366 firm-year observations. Results of the study showed that out of the factors analyzed, Liquidity and Profitability had a significant association with the dividend payout policy of firms in the sample. Hence, it may be concluded that the two mentioned factors are the major determinants of a firm’s dividend policy
DESIGN AND OPERATION OF MICROGRID
The need for new generation systems has motivated the development of microgrids. This new concept may provide significant benefits such as losses compensation, achieving high degree of efficiency and reliability to the transmission and distribution networks. This novel idea provides more advantages about Microgrids like general structure and different topologies. Also an original methodology for facilitating its design is proposed. Finally Simulink model of Microgrid is designed and then analyzed.Â
OPERATIONAL RESEARCH TOOLS IN IRRIGATION - A REVIEW
Operational research optimization is an old method for allocating scarce resources with maximum benefits and efficiency. With increasing global water scarcity, earliness and tiredness in demand base water supply, economical issues, maximizing crop per drop of water, OR is getting popular in irrigation and agriculture sector as well. This paper is intended to review different optimization techniques used so far in the field of irrigation.Key Words: Operation research, optimization, irrigation, water delivery, genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, fuzzy sets, swarm optimization
Going Beyond Uniplex Ties: Aan Analysis of Multiple Network Ties on Job Satisfaction
Multiple networks are overlooked in previous research studies and not much attention is given to the occurrences of such relational ties. By imprinting the concept of social ledger, the paper suggests that multiple networks can exist in combination of both positive and negative ties i.e. potential benefits and liabilities can be derived within a social relation. The study explores to identify how multiple friendship-hindrance network centrality (indgree and outdegree) affect an employee’s job satisfaction level. A sociometric and traditional questionnaire is used to collect data from 131 employees at the Quetta head office of a premier telecommunication company. Data is analyzed using UCINET VI and SPSS software. The finding indicates that indegree centrality of friendship-hindrance network is negatively associated with job satisfaction. The consequence of these ties is due to the interplay of social and instrumental relation which commonly operates in today working environment. Therefore, the study proposed that negative repercussions should be handled in a productive and optimal manner so that the impediments may not impel the positives of a relationship
Co-movement between Exchange Rate Fluctuations and Economic Factors in Pakistan’s Economy (1990-2013)
Prior to 1976, business community of the world followed gold as a stable standard exchange rate for international business. After flexible exchange rate system implemented in the world in 1976, different solutions for stabilizing the exchange rate system were introduced to reduce the effects of exchange rate fluctuations on business. Pakistan and US Economy relies on trade for improving its GDP, lowering inflation rate and enhancing the economy of the Country. However if the trade balance is sufficient but the exchange rate fluctuation is significant then GDP would decrease instead of increasing and the economy might be negatively affected. It is understandable that imports of Pakistan are more than its exports and if exchange rate also fluctuates between Pakistan and the imported country then the country economy would disturb. Due to this imbalance in import/export, Pakistan relies on different institutions like IMF, World Bank, etc. These loans many help in balance of payment, partial stability but on the same time depreciate the economy if Pakistan. These loans are in the form of US dollars and Pakistani rupees are mostly associated with US dollars. Pakistan economy suffers a setback when these loans are returned. This paper looks as to how exchange rate fluctuations between Pakistan and USA and affects Pakistan’s economy and what are the factors which are disturbed due to exchange rate fluctuations between the two countries
THE IMPACT OF PAY SATISFACTION, JOB STRESS, AND ABUSIVE SUPERVISION ON TURNOVER INTENTION AMONG BANKING EMPLOYEES
Pakistan banks cannot survive well without trained and experienced employees. Many researchers have reported the high turnover in banking sector. Therefore it was highly important to address this problem. The purpose of this study was to test the factors (pay satisfaction, job stress, and abusive supervision) influencing turnover intention among bank employees. This study collected the data from a sample of 100 bank employees both public and private banks in Vehari. The results showed that there was a significant negative effect of pay satisfaction on turnover intention and there was significant positive effect both job stress and abusive supervision on turnover intention. This study will be helpful to decision authority in banks to identify factors contributing towards turnover intention.Â
A NOVEL APPROACH FOR ERROR DETECTION AND CORRECTION USING GATED CORRECTION METHOD
Data communication is the process of exchanging information between sender and receiver. The basic objective of a communication system is to transmit data which is free of error. Advancement in technology has made various revolutions in data communication, with which come greater chances that the data to be sent becomes corrupted. The data is transferred from various transmission impairments and during this period various factors affect the signal, the data received at the receiver is different from the data transmitted. As digital signals exist in two states either high or low, the error occurred will change its state. In today\u27s advance world different techniques have been made to detect and remove error in the data. The paper delivers a simple error correction and detection method which can detect and correct single, multiple and burst error simply by using XNOR and COMPLEMENT. In the proposed method key is calculated and is send as a redundant bits at the receiver different operations are made to get the data that was originally sent. This error correction is a step ahead of hamming code. This paper also discusses the shortcomings of hamming code
PLASMONIC PROPERTIES OF METALLIC NANOPARTICLES
In this study, the scattering properties of three different gold nano-particles have been studied. The proposed nano-particles are spherical, conical and cylindrical. The simulation results indicate that as the parameter of these nano-particles are changed so different LSPR peaks and shifts achieved in the scattering spectra. So this shows that the resonance modes are strongly reliant on the parameters of the proposed nano-particles. Moreover we have compared the scattering spectra of all the three nano-particles on the basis of their volume. The spherical nano-particle got wide spectral width, shift and high amplitude in the scattering spectra due to which it can be used for biomedical applications
IMPROVEMENT OF BEARING CAPACITY OF SANDY SOIL BY GROUTING
The structures constructed in the coastal belt requires deep foundation due to the existence of week soil which has poor Engineering properties. The soil profile about 3 to 4 meters deep, in these areas is mostly loose sand which are then underlain by clayey soil. The structures constructed here suffer excessive settlement. In this paper the bearing capacity of soil is improved in order to reduce settlement and this done by grouting. Ordinary Portland cement is used. It was found that shear strength of the grouted sand increases with the increase in cement quantity also it is found from results that 4%cement grout is effective as compared to 2% and 6% of grout.Index Terms—Enter Cement, Grouting, Ground Improvement, Sandy soil
