This study investigates the association between earnings management and corporate governance characteristics in the Chinese context. Chinese corporate governance system is improved in past two decades after deciding to move away from planned economy to market-oriented one. The data is collected from the Chinese A-listed firms for the period of 2008 to 2016 to investigate the impact of Board characteristics on Earnings management. Additionally, this study demonstrates if earnings management is still an issue in the Non-SOE or not?. This study finds that board size mitigates the earnings management, and board independence is not playing there due role in monitoring the top management. The board meetings are not so effective and therefore not contributing to mitigating the earnings management. CEO duality is not a big issue just like in developed countries. Furthermore, When segrgating the sample on the basis of ownership type, we find that, a board meeting is affective in SOE as compare to Non-SOE.Furthermore, board size substitutes the weak external governance mechanism and constrains Earnings management. Board meeting plays a complementary effect when external governance mechanism is strong. The findings of this study are significant for all stakeholders to analyze and to improve the board effectiveness and the financial reporting quality before making any decision

This study investigates the effectiveness of external debt in determining socio-economic economic development in Pakistan during the period from 1973 to 2013 using time series data. For analysis, Ordinary Least Square (OLS) and Augmented EngelGranger (AEG) test is used. The results from AEG test show that there is co-integration and long run bond between external debt and poverty. The results provide strong evidences that poor economic performance have signiï¬cantly aggravated economic downturn and augmented poverty level. Growing external debt services have unfavorable impacts on poverty level and income inequality as less has been left to ï¬nance expenditures on social services and poverty reduction. Poverty level and income inequality can be useful indicators of the Pakistan\u27s initiatives on debt reduction goals and debt relief

Higher scores were reported for Idealized Influence, Inspirational motivation, and Contingent reward respectively. Laissez-faire leadership style is the least exercised style. Overall, male was found more transformational than female, but on individual (dimensions) styles they differed. The result showed an interesting relationship of age with styles that in early and late ages, school leaders preferred to exercise charismatic (idealized influence) but in the mid ages, they were inclined to use contingent reward. It is suggested that for the school leader’s degree or a diploma in Education Planning and Management (EPM) shall be included in their eligibility criteria, their department shall have successive planning, their appraisal shall take in to consideration their leadership behaviors, they shall be involved in incentivized research activities, and shall be given autonomy in school management. At the end limitations and future directions are also discussed. AN APPROPRIATE INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO FOR STOCK MARKET INVESTORS: EVIDENCE FROM PAKISTAN
The study is based on two main objectives. First, it aims to identify a portfolio of stocks as the most appropriate investment portfolio (AIP) for investors, specifically in the context of Pakistan. Second, this research intends to identify the characteristics of the portfolio which forms AIP. For this purpose, the researcher has formed sixteen time series portfolios, using Fama and French five factor model (2015). Beside marker factor, four risk factors have been constructed which include SMB, HML, RMW, and CMA. The results show that five portfolios which are BHRA, BLRA, BLRC, BHRC, and SHRA are appropriate investment portfolios for investors in Pakistan. Amongst these portfolios, BHRA earns highest monthly average returns of 1.17% having standard deviation of 9.13%, followed by BLRA with average monthly returns of 1.05% with standard deviation of 7.59%. The average return of BHRA is 11.4% higher than BLRA, whereas standard deviation of BHRA is almost 20% larger than the standard deviation of BLRA. Both, the average per month return and risk of BHRA are highest amongst all higher returns portfolios. Contrarily, the excess return of BLRA is not considerably low from BHRA but the incremental risk per unit return of BHRA is almost double of BLRA. Therefore, amongst all five appropriate portfolios, BLRA is justifiably the most appropriate investment portfolio which has the highest adjusted R-square of 77.106 %, the highest average returns of 1.053 % per month, and minimum risk of 7.5%. The results, therefore, suggests all investors to include big, low book/market, robust profitable, and aggressive investment stocks in their portfolios to earn above average returns with minimum risk
