DIVIDEND POLICY ATTRIBUTES AND ITS IMPACT ON FIRM PROFITABILITY
The objective of the study was to analyze the impact of dividend policy on firm profitability. Dividend paying firms from three industrial sectors namely cement, automobile and sugar were selected for the period 2010-2020. Out of the total 74 dividend paying firms in these three industrial sectors only 33 were selected for which data was available for the entire study period. Fixed effects model is used to measure the impact of dividend policy from firm profitability. Findings of the study revealed that both attributes of dividend policy namely DPR and DY has a significant positive impact on all three proxies of firm profitability (ROA, ROE, EPS) except for DPR impact on EPS in Model III where the impact is also positive but insignificant
EVOLUTION OF ACCOUNTABILITY FRAMEWORKS IN PAKISTAN: 1947 TO 2022
This paper focuses on the evolution of laws and institutions related to public sector accountability in Pakistan since its independence. It critically outlines a chronological legal history of the regulatory and institutions anti-corruption frameworks since 1860. It overviews the development phases of the promulgation, amendments, and annulment of such laws and points to the intent of the legislature and lawmakers in defining the scope of and promulgating these laws. In this regard, it outlines several different laws and seven evolution categories of accountability institutions. The authors also touch upon the influence of political government changes on such laws, especially through to contemporary political situation of Pakistan. In the later sections, there is a discussion on the international (comparative) context of accountability mechanisms followed up by conclusion. This paper offers a comprehensive review of accountability history vis-à-vis its institutional mechanisms and bodies, and serves as a source document for policy makers, academic researchers, and students of accountability in the context of Pakistan
INTERNAL AUDITING PRACTICES AND INTERNAL CONTROL QUALITY IN STATE-OWNED ENTERPRISES: EVIDENCE FROM PAKISTAN
This study examines the role of internal auditing practices compliance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (ISPPIA) in enhancing internal control quality in Pakistani State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). Data was collected through an online survey of Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) of SOEs from various sectors. An ordinal logistic regression model was used to test the influence of compliance with international best practice guidelines of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) related to independence of the internal audit function, competence of the internal audit function, quality assurance and improvement programmes, and audit committee characteristics over seventeen principles of the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) of the Treadway Commission Internal Control Framework. The results indicate that the independence of the internal audit function (IAF) and the characteristics of the audit committee have a statistically significant positive impact on the internal control system. However, findings related to quality assurance and improvement programs, and competence of the IAF, were deemed insignificant. The study is expected to contributes to accountability theory by highlighting that how quality internal audit practices can enhance internal control and thereby strengthen the accountability mechanism in public sector. The results are also expected to have important practical implication, both locally and globally
THE MEDIATING ROLE OF INNOVATIVE WORK BEHAVIOR BETWEEN PROACTIVE PERSONALITY AND EMPLOYEE’S CREATIVITY
Studies suggest that employees need to be proactive and creative, since these behaviors are important for performing the job. Research studies of proactivity, creativity and their antecedents contrasted each other in developed and in developing countries. This study has explored the mediating role of innovative work behavior among proactive personality and creativity in public sector hospitals of Peshawar city. To test the hypotheses, grounded study was conducted with the sample of 190 doctors. The data confirmed a positive relationship between proactive personality and creativity and indicated a significant relationship with innovative work behavior. In addition, the results show that innovative work behavior does not mediate the relationship. The study has discussed suggestions based on findings for improving innovative work behavior for better performance and recommended that organizations should create working environment for innovative work behavior
ASSESSING THE EFFECT OF WORKPLACE SPIRITUALITY AND SPIRITUAL INTELLIGENCE ON PSYCHOLOGICAL WELLBEING OF HEALTHCARE EMPLOYEES IN THE PERIOD OF COVID-19: A CASE FROM KARACHI, PAKISTAN
This study examines the impact of workplace spirituality, and spiritual intelligence on the psychological well-being of employees in Karachi, Pakistan. In this study, the explanatory research type was executed by adopting the deductive approach to test the framed hypothesis of the study. Moreover, 350 respondents were taken as a sample particularly employees employed in the hospital were selected for data collection and gave responses based on their availability. For the investigation of the data, SPSS was used. The study outcomes specified that there was a noteworthy association among workplace spirituality, spiritual intelligence, and the psychological well-being of employees. Furthermore, there was a statistically substantial effect of workplace spirituality and spiritual intelligence on the psychological well-being of employees. Organizations should focus on improving spiritual intelligence and spirituality at work to manage the psychological well-being of their employees because it ultimately affects the organization\u27s performance. Therefore, to enhance the psychological well-being of healthcare professionals’ managers must focus on providing training to improve the workplace spirituality and spiritual intelligence to deal with the current confronted challenge that is COVID-19 and to prepare them for the forthcoming challenges
THE ROLE OF NGOS IN THE EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT SECTOR: A CASE STUDY IN THE MERGED DISTRICTS OF KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA, PAKISTAN
In the developing world, there are a plethora of development issues. All thedevelopment issues are associated with a poor education system, violation ofbasic human rights, poor standards of living, and deprivation of basic needs.Also, some organizations are constantly working to improve the indicators ofdevelopment. These organizations are called non-governmental organizations.The research study has been conducted to explain the role of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in the Merged districts of KhyberPakhtunkhwa. A qualitative research methodology has been used to achievethe research objectives. Data Analysis has been performed through NVIVOsoftware. This research finding has highlighted the role of NGOs and hasshown that militancy, Frontier Crime Regulation (FCR), cultural norms, basicrights were the major factors that influenced the role of NGOs in the tribaldistricts. The research has concluded that the NGOs have played a significantrole in improving political, social, and economic indicators in the mergeddistricts. Overall, there is a positive role of a non-governmental organizationin the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
SOCIO-ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF CONSTRUCTING THE HYDROPOWER PROJECT: A CASE STUDY OF TARBELA 4TH EXTENSION
The dams and water reservoirs are built to achieve an integrated set of benefits, yet they have certain effects on the people living in the vicinity. The Tarbela dam is the largest earth-filled dam in the world. The objective of this study is to find out the socio-economic effects of constructing the Tarbela 4th Extension on residents of the area. For this purpose, this study investigates the socio-economic dynamics of the Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project. The design of the study is quantitative, based on the data collected from Tehsil Ghazi and Tehsil Topi (KPK). A sample of two hundred households residing in the area was randomly selected. A specially designed questionnaire was used for the data collection. The results of the study reveal that the project has positively affected the social status of the inhabitants, education, and overall Quality of life. People’s economic condition improved as they got contractual and daily wage jobs in the project. Thus currently, their income has been raised. The study found a formal occupation trend, which is govt or private jobs are dominant in the area. The project has played a vital role in the socioeconomic development of the area. The study concludes Tarbela 4th extension has undoubtedly affected the incomes, expenditures, infrastructure, quality of life, health, education, relocation of the people, public safety, and communication system
DYNAMICS OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (HRM) STRATEGIES AND PRACTICES: A SILVER LINING FOR ORGANIZATIONS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a number of challenges that influenced economic conditions and social behaviors of individuals, and also organizational operations in an adverse manner. This study is a critical literature review that aims to highlight the pivotal role of Human Resource Management (HRM) in devising strategies and practices that can be used to alleviate the hindrances that resulted from the current global health crisis. For this purpose, relevant articles published between December 2019 and April 2022 were retrieved from different databases, some of which include: Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science. Only 27 articles were chosen for this study due to a higher degree of relevance. The study concluded that HRM was competent enough to devise varied strategies and practices that enabled organizations to continue its routine operations while ensuring health, safety, psychological well-being, motivation and productivity of personnel at the workplace in prevalence of the global pandemic. Furthermore, limitations of the study and recommendations for future research are also included
SEHAT SAHULAT PROGRAM AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA
Sehat Sahulat Program is health initiative initially launched by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Govt for the people of the province. This paper is aimed at looking at the program from the patients and doctors’ point of view. The study is qualitative in nature and is interview-based assessment of the program. For this purpose, five doctors from the top tiers and ten patients have been interviewed. The central point of these to see as to what extent the program is viewed by these two main stakeholders. The findings are expected to benefit both the research community as well as all the stakeholders. It will enable the policy makers to how to improve the program so that its set target can be achieved as postulated in the program. The authors believe that though this is simple approach to an issue that is related to almost all people, it is hoped that these findings would help the future researchers to look at the program from more complicated aspects
SUSTAINABLE HRM PRACTICES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING OF EMPLOYEES: A CASE OF PRIVATE SECTOR BANKS IN PAKISTAN
The paper aims at investigating the relationship between HRM practices on the psychological well-being of employees. This research is explanatory in nature and deductive approach is being employed. This study used a survey questionnaire to gather information from the respondents on a Likert scale. For data analysis, SPSS was used. The target population for the study was the employees currently working in the private sector banks in Pakistan specifically Islamic banks. The outcomes of the studies show that there is a significant impact of all sustainable human resource management practices including sustainable recruitment and selection, sustainable training and development, and sustainable career planning except sustainable performance appraisal on the psychological well-being of employees. The outcomes of this research are specific to Islamic banks, so other organizations can only use them as guidance. Banking sectors need to recognize that sustainable HRM greatly affects the psychological well-being of employees. Human resource management in the organization must understand that having sustainable practices is crucial for promoting higher levels of psychological well-being among employees
