Delia radicum (Diptera: Anthomyiidae): BIOLOGY, DAMAGE AND CONTROL STRATEGIES IN SPRING CABBAGE PRODUCTION IN THE STRUMICA REGION

    No full text
The cabbage root fly (Delia radicum L.) is a significant pest of cabbage and other brassicaceous crops. It can produce three to four generations per year, with adult activity spanning from early spring through late autumn. The most severe damage typically occurs on young seedlings, although in cases of heavy infestation, even mature plants and developing heads may be affected. Control measures must be implemented preventively and initiated at the first signs of adult activity. Management is challenging because the larvae feed within plant tissues, making them difficult to reach with conventional treatments. Therefore, efforts should focus on preventing infestations through integrated pest management approaches

ASSESSMENT OF HEAVY METAL ACCUMULATION IN MOSS SPECIES AS BIOMONITORS OF ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION IN THE GOLESH FE–NI MINING AREA, REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO

    No full text
The study aimed to assess the level of air pollution by heavy metals in the area around Golesh, near the iron–nickel (Fe–Ni) mines, using mosses as biomonitors (Homalothecium lutescens (Hedw.) Robins. At 20 selected sampling sites in this area, concentrations of 17 chemical elements were analyzed using the inductively coupled plasma with mass spectrometry (ICP–MS). This study assessed the elemental content, distribution, and level of heavy metal pollution in moss samples, serving as bioindicators in a potentially contaminated area. Statistical analysis revealed wide variations in metal concentrations, with elements such as Al, Fe, and Mg showing the highest average values. The Contamination Factor (CF) revealed extremely high levels of pollution for Cr, Cd, Co, Pb, and Ni, indicating a significant anthropogenic impact. Factor Analysis and Cluster Analyses confirmed the co–occurrence of toxic elements (As, Pb, Ni, Cd) likely originating from industrial and mining activities. The Pollution Load Index (PLI) also highlighted the overall high contamination status of the area. These findings confirm the presence of local pollution sources and reinforce the usefulness of mosses as biomonitors in environmental assessment

From Ethics of Archaeology to Archaeology of Ethics

The archaeology and the practice of archaeology are conceived of, in several fairly common ways, as “the study of human activity through the recovery and analysis of material culture” or as being “about obtaining, managing and manipulating data to inform understanding of the past, in order to make decisions in the present”. But we also read of how archaeology can be instrumental in our understanding of climate change or the migration of people and the response of “host countries”, for example in the context of socio-political unrest in the Middle East and the rise of populist nationalism in Europe. Moreover, we read of how it can be instrumental in our dealing with these concerns. “Any issue”, says a most recent analysis, “that is of multi-generational duration is amenable to archaeological analysis”. But isn’t this saying that archaeology is, really, about the ἀρχή of things, again, in the broad, original sense of the term… so not just their origins or governance, but the intersection of both, that which the Latins call their “principles”

AMBIENT AIR QUALITY NEAR COPPER MINE BOROV DOL

    No full text
This study investigates the ambient air quality in the immediate vicinity of the Borov Dol copper mine near Radovis, where three monitoring sites were selected at different locations surrounding the mine’s concession area. The measurements were conducted over a period of six months, covering both the winter and spring seasons. For measurement of the concentration of suspended particulate matter, fraction (PM10) in ambient air, ES-642 Met One (USA) instruments were used, which are certified for indicative monitoring in accordance with MCERTS (UK) standards. The measurements were performed using an automatic method based on nephelometric light scattering, which allows continuous real-time monitoring and recording of particulate concentrations. The data analysis revealed slightly elevated PM10 concentrations during winter months, attributed to frequent temperature inversions and low dispersion conditions, whereas lower concentrations were recorded during spring under more favorable meteorological conditions. The majority of measured values remained below national and EU limit values, indicating that the mine’s impact on ambient air quality is relatively minor. Overall, the results confirm that effective management and mitigation strategies can minimize air quality impacts associated with copper mining operations

CONVERBS АND COMPOUND CONVERB FORMATION IN THE TURKISH DIALECTS OF NORTH MACEDONIA

    No full text
Adverbial Verbs, also known as converbs or gerunds, are words derived from verb-based roots and stems, and function to qualify verbs in various ways. In Turkish, adverbial verbs are verbal nouns frequently used and carry significant roles in both syntactic and semantic contexts. These structures are formed by adding suffixes such as -AsI, -A, -Ar...-mAz, -ken, -Ip, -mAdAn, -IncA, -Elİ, -dIkçA, -IncA, etc., to verb roots and stems. In a sentence, their function is to describe verbs in terms of time, quantity, manner, place-direction, and interrogative aspects. They are used only in the role of adverbs; although they carry verbal meaning, they do not take tense or mood inflections. By forming subordinate clauses, they function as explanatory units for the main clause. The formation and usage of adverbial verbs and adverbial verb groups in Turkish may vary across dialects. The aim of this study is to identify the methods of forming adverbial verbs and adverbial verb groups in the Turkish spoken in North Macedonia and to examine these methods comparatively with Turkey Turkish. For this analysis, qualitative research methods such as document analysis and survey technique were employed. As the data source, folk tales compiled from local people in Sevim Piliçkoava’s "The Structure of Turkish Fairy Tales, Book III" were used. Folk tales are among the most productive research materials as they reflect the natural language usage and dialectal features of the people. Within the scope of the study, notable findings were obtained regarding the usage of adverbial verb suffixes identified in the texts. While some adverbial verb-forming suffixes are used in the same form, some have undergone phonetic changes, and some are observed to be entirely unused. These findings reveal both the similarities and the dialect-specific differences between the dialects of North Macedonian Turkish and Turkey Turkish. Thus, the study aims to contribute to further research on these dialectal features

THE HUMANISTIC ASPECTS IN THE NOVEL “KALESH ANGJA” BY STALE POPOV

    No full text
The novel “Kalesh Angja” by Stale Popov is a literary work of profound historical and ethical value, depicting the struggle for freedom of the Macedonian people and the preservation of human dignity. This paper focuses on the humanistic aspects represented in the novel, examining the personal choices, moral strength and values of the main character - the beautiful Mari woman Angja. Through the analysis of her defiance before the Ottoman government, universal human values are highlighted: the right to freedom, the preservation of personal and national identity, love for the homeland and perseverance in the face of injustice. Parallel to her, we also encounter the humanistic characteristics of Mehmet Pasha Sokolović, in whose character the power of the Ottoman statesman and deep human values are intertwined. Although he is part of the Ottoman government, Mehmet Pasha is not presented as a cruel tyrant, but as a man who values dignity, honor and human feelings. He has a broader understanding of different cultures and religions, and his attitude is not filled with hatred but with an attempt to find a human connection between differences. This paper confirms that the novel “Kalesh Angja” is a historical account that sends a strong humanistic message that is valid beyond the time in which it was created

SECURITY CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS IN ROBOTIC AND INTERNET OF ROBOTIC THINGS (IoRT) SYSTEMS: A SCOPING REVIEW

    No full text
Robotic systems and the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) are rapidly expanding into domains such as healthcare, industry, logistics, and smart environments, bringing significant benefits but also exposing new security challenges. Because robots exchange data, interact with cloud and edge platforms, and operate autonomously, cyber incidents can cause  information breaches and physical harm. This scoping review maps current research on IoRT security by analyzing studies published in the last five years. Using PRISMA methodology, the review identifies the main threats affecting IoRT systems-ranging from adversarial manipulation and data leakage to insecure wireless communication and vulnerabilities in learning-based components. The examined literature shows that most solutions focus on protecting data confidentiality, ensuring integrity of robotic behavior, and applying cryptographic or AI-driven defense mechanisms, while protocol-level security remains notably underexplored. Overall, the review reveals a growing yet fragmented field and highlights the need for more systematic evaluation of communication protocols and robust, trustworthy AI methods to secure increasingly autonomous robotic systems

КАРАКТЕРИСТИКИ НА СОЦИЈАЛНИОТ ДИЈАЛОГ ВО РЕПУБЛИКА СЕВЕРНА МАКЕДОНИЈА ВО ПЕРИОДОТ 1990-2024

    No full text
