Occupation and employment problems in the conglomerates of Argentinian Northwestern (2012-2023)

    No full text
Since 2012, the economies of the NOA provinces have experienced low growth rates, stagnation or a fall in economic activity. In this sense, the aim of this article is to analyse the evolution and characteristics of employment and employment problems in the most important urban agglomerates of the NOA between 2012 and 2023, investigating the links they may have with the new economic context. The first section of the article analyses the evolution of the Gross Geographical Product of each province, the employment rate and the number of employed people looking for another job in the most important agglomerates of the region. A second section examines the dynamics of unemployment, underemployment and informal wage earners. Finally, a third section analyses the evolution of registered employment in the private sector and public employment. In a context of slower growth or decline in economic activity, particularly since 2016, unemployment and underemployment affected a significant percentage of the economically active population, the percentage of informal wage earners and those looking for another occupation increased, while registered employment in the private sector expanded at a slower pace.Fil: Osatinsky, Ariel. Identifying changes in the drivers of ecosystem services: Socioeconomic changes underlie reduced provision of pollination service

    No full text
The impact of land use changes on ecosystem services (ES) or Nature´s Contributions to People (NCP) is relatively well-known, but the influence of socioeconomic changes on ES remains less clear, especially at larger spatial scales. Multiple socioeconomic factors influence the demand for a service (i.e. higher economic income and human development can increase demand for ES) and the provision of such service (i.e. environmental policies and cultural relationships with nature may enhance access to ES). Such complex relationships require a multidimensional approach to understand the socioeconomic drivers of change of ES. We investigated how socioeconomic drivers affect demand, diversity and provision of crop pollination service. Our Brazil-wide assessment spans a decade (2006-17) and encompasses a period of rapid land use intensification and concentration of land ownership. Our results revealed that the replacement of small and diverse pollinator-dependent farming systems by large pollinator-dependent monocultures has led to deficits in crop pollination services, with demand increasing by 3.3% while diversity and provision have decreased by 16.1 and 22.5%, respectively. These changes are linked to increased wealth concentration and social inequality, as regions that presented concentrated land ownership and limited access to credit were associated with reduced pollination provision. Our study provided a country-wide quantitative assessment of socioeconomic drivers of change in ES to reveal an association between social inequality and reduced ES provision.Fil: Bergamo, Pedro Joaquim. Information Theoretical Analysis of Quantum Mixedness in a Finite Model of Interacting Fermions

    No full text
In this study, we utilize information theory tools to investigate notable features of the quantum degree of mixedness (C_) in a finite model of N interacting fermions. This model serves as a simplified proxy for an atomic nucleus, capturing its essential features in a more manageable form compared to a realistic nuclear model, which would require the diagonalization of matrices with millions of elements, making the extraction of qualitative features a significant challenge. Specifically, we aim to correlate C_ with particle number fluctuations and temperature, using the paradigmatic Lipkin model. Our analysis reveals intriguing dependencies of _ on the total fermion number, showcasing distinct behaviors at different temperatures. Notably, we find that the degree of quantum mixedness exhibits a strong dependence on the total fermion number, with varying trends across different temperature regimes. Remarkably, this dependence remains unaffected by the strength of the fermion-fermion interaction (as long as it is non-zero), underscoring the robustness of the observed phenomena. Through comprehensive numerical simulations, we provide illustrative graphs depicting these dependencies, offering valuable insights into the fundamental characteristics of quantum many-body fermion systems. Our findings illuminate the intricate dynamics of the degree of mixedness, a crucial quantum property, with potential implications for diverse fields ranging from condensed matter physics to quantum information science.Fil: Monteoliva, Diana. Identification of Trypanosoma cruzi Discrete Typing Units by Multiplex Real-Time PCR

    No full text
Trypanosoma cruzi isolates are classified into six discrete typing units (DTUs), TcI to TcVI, and TcBat. An accurate identification of T. cruzi genotype is critical for understanding its epidemiology, pathogenesis, and response to treatment. Several typing methodologies have been developed with variable levels of complexity, selectivity, and analytical sensitivity. This chapter describes a standardized multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) protocol using TaqMan probes to identify parasite DTUs based on the analysis of T. cruzi SL-IR, 18S rDNA, COII, and 24Sα rDNA targets. This methodology can identify the six main DTUs directly from clinical and biological specimens in a single or two sequential qPCR reactions with high sensitivity and specificity, minimizing contamination risks and reducing the number of steps required. It offers a simplified approach to genotyping that is adaptable for field studies and clinical diagnostics.Fil: Cura, Carolina Inés. Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Pcia.de Bs.as.. The collaborative dream: the life cycle of knowledge co-production projects and the survival dilemma

    No full text
In this paper we present and critically evaluate a participatory mapping project called the Map of Water Conflicts in Andalusia (Spain) led by researchers at the University of Seville from 2017 to 2019. According to the available literature, projects of this nature denote initial enthusiasm, followed by decline and abandonment within a period of approximately five years. At the crossroads of the Map’s disappearance, we critically analyze the project expectations and outcomes while addressing the challenges of sustaining co-production interest and validity over time. Our evaluation uses available information produced throughout the project to contrast the project’s officially defined goals and participant expectations with the project outcomes. The results are then discussed from a process-based perspective in relation to the lifecycle of boundary objects, with particular attention to the role of the researchers as influential actors in contributing to the generation, sustainability, and relevance of co-production projects.Three phases were identified in the project lifecycle, interpretive flexibility, standardization, and infrastructure creation, with critical transitional moments that challenge its sustainability and even pose a “survival dilemma” for the project. We conclude that to awaken from the “collaborative dream,” it is essential to consider the dynamic and conflictive nature of co-production projects and the ongoing self-examination within project teams. Goals and expected outcomes should be designed to align with the project’s transition through different stages, which are, in turn, determined by political-institutional contexts and specific power relations.Fil: Pedregal, Belén. Extraordinary Therapeutic Landscapes: The Case of the Well of Light-Pyramid of Light in San Marcos Sierras (Córdoba, Argentina)

    No full text
Landscape studies have a long history within geographical science, and particularly in cultural geography. This article recovers phenomenological traditions of the landscape through the lens of approaches that emerged after the turns, appealing to the notion of extraordinary therapeutic landscape. The research aims to analyze the therapeutic landscape that emerged around the Pozo de Luz-Pyramid of Light located in the Cordoba town of San Marcos Sierras. This landscape assembly was created in 2003 by the self-proclaimed "prophet Kropp" as an alternative therapeutic complex and would burst into the valley as an exceptionality of the mountain environment. The qualitative methodology with an interpretive approach was carried out through fieldwork in 2022 and 2023, with floating observation, a guided tour by the prophet, material reading of the landscape, taking photographs and qualitative analysis of interviews and files available on the network.Fil: Giop, Marcos Bruno.
