    Argentina’s last dictatorship in the school curriculum: Changes and challenges of forty years of democracy

    Between 1976 and 1983, Argentina lived under a dictatorial regime known officially as the “National Reorganization Process.” Its objective was to restructure the whole of society and step up the “fight against subversion” in the country. In order to achieve its goal, the state became a terrorist state (Duhalde 1983 [1999]) carrying out a systematic and clandestine plan of kidnapping, torture, and murder in addition to using other legal or semi-legal mechanisms of persecution, censorship, prison and exile in order to, ultimately, eliminate all political dissidence.Following the return to democracy, human rights organizations campaigns and a set of political and legal decisions, this past became part of a national curriculum associated with the construction of memory and the strengthening of democratic values. So, what the inclusion of the Argentine dictatorial past in the national curriculum looked like? How has it changed over time?The chapter aims at discussing how recent Argentine history was introduced and how it mutated throughout secondary education in the last forty years, the first four decades of uninterrupted democratic ruling in our country. This article assumes that its characteristics and scope can be understood if considered together with a series of political, legal, memorial, historiographic and pedagogical elements, as well as their variations over time.     Starch/PCL blend-based food packaging materials mechanochemically obtained via organocatalytic esterification of salicylic acid: Effect of l(+)-tartaric acid as an organocatalyst

    The objective of this work was to analyze films based on poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)/thermoplastic starch (TPS) blends obtained mechanochemically via organocatalytic esterification of salicylic acid (SalAc – esterifying agent) using tartaric acid (TAc) as an organocatalyst for their potential application as an active and sustainable food packaging material. For this purpose, six formulations were fabricated and labeled as follows: 1) TPS, 2) PCL, 3) a 50:50 (w/w) blend of TPS and PCL (PCL/TPS), 4) PCL/TPS containing SalAc at 2% w/w with respect to the weight of the polymeric matrix/plasticizer mixture (maximum allowable limit) (PCL/TPS +SalAc), 5) PCL/TPS containing TAc (same molar ratio as SalAc) (PCL/TPS+TAc), and 6) PCL/TPS containing a 1:1 molar blend of SalAc and TAc (PCL/TPS+SalAc+TAc). These materials were then analyzed in structural, thermal, crystalline, physicochemical, morphological, mechanical, rheological and functional terms. The results obtained demonstrated that the presence of SalAc produced the esterification of TPS, thereby improving its compatibility with PCL, while TAc, in the absence of an esterifying agent, showed a hydrolyzing effect on TPS and caused decarboxylation of PCL. SalAc acted as an antioxidant compound, thus partially inhibiting PCL decarboxylation. Nonetheless, this reaction was not decisive in the overall physicochemical and mechanical performance of the developed materials. The addition of SalAc and TAc, separately and mixed, in the PCL/TPS-based materials also led to a decrease in viscosity compared to the PCL/TPS material. Regarding antioxidant activity, values were low in all formulations, without reaching significant levels. However, the antimicrobial properties of the materials containing mainly SalAc were outstanding, mainly against Pseudomona aeruginosa (Gram-negative bacteria). Nevertheless, an ecotoxic effect on lettuce (Lactuca sativa) seedlings was mainly observed due to the use of SalAc, which could be related to its dose-dependent effect, thus limiting the potential compostability of the materials. With regard to the scaling up of such materials, none achieved to improve the mechanical properties and reduce the hydrophilic nature of TPS.Fil: Mendiolar, Julián.     Fantasies of the baroque: the scenic procedures of drag practices in Buenos Aires

    Las prácticas transformistas contemporáneas en la ciudad de Buenos Aires desarrollaron nociones centrales para su comprensión, como las de truque y fantasía, las cuales son abordadas en este artículo desde los estudios teatrales y de género. A su vez, se sugieren tres grandes conjuntos de procedimientos escénicos que eran involucrados en sus manifestaciones: la puesta en escena de materiales identitarios que complejizaban la concepción cerrada de la identidad de les artistas; la acumulación y lo camp de los cuales daba cuenta la utilización de la máscara móvil a partir del maquillaje; y el uso de relaciones intertextuales. Estos procedimientos, que componían una estética del desborde y la multiplicación, acercaban las prácticas transformistas a lo barroco. Así, gestaban estrategias para volverse difusas y escapar de las lógicas heterocisnormadas y de la matriz artística tradicional.Contemporary drag practices in the city of Buenos Aires developed central notions for their understanding, such as truque and fantasy, which are approached in this article from theatrical and gender studies. At the same time, this paper suggests three main sets of scenic procedures that were involved in their manifestations: the staging of identity materials that complexified the closed conception of the artists' identity; the accumulation and camp aesthetic of which the use of the mobile mask based on make-up; and the use of intertextual relations. These procedures update the Baroque through the artists' aesthetic fluidity, the constant reworking of appearance, and the unexpected combination of elements. In this way, they generate strategies that render them diffuse and allow them to escape heterocisnormative logics and the traditional artistic framework.Fil: Trupia, Agustina.     ICF-based functioning profiles in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy: Evidence from a population-based study in Argentina

    Purpose: In Argentina, there is no consensus on the functional assessment of children with cerebral palsy (CP). The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) Core Sets for children with CP are tools that standardize clinical functional assessments. The aim was to build functioning profiles of children with CP aged 2 to 18 years in eight Argentine cities, to identify their functional needs and contribute to improving assessment processes. Methods: Cross-sectional study, developed in stages. This article describes the last stage, the creation of the functional profile of a sample surveyed in eight cities. Twenty-five categories established in the common abbreviated core set of CP were evaluated through the application of a protocol called PC-CIFuncional (previously created). This protocol consists of scales or culturally sensitive instruments, assessed through clinical evaluations and questionnaires for children and families. Results: One hundred thirty-three functioning profiles were built using the previously developed PC-CIFuncional protocol. Of the participants, 52.7% had severe motor compromise with Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) levels IV and V. In children at GMFCS level IV-V, most categories in activities and participation—including recreation, communication and physical activity—showed severe limitations and restrictions, compared with their peers. The use of technology for daily living and mobility in children with less motor compromise (GMFCS level I-III) was neither a facilitator nor a barrier, but in children with greater compromise it was a complete facilitator. Conclusions: Differences in functional needs were identified in children with CP according to motor involvement.     Reading and writing in Social Science subjects: a systematic review

    Este artículo presenta una revisión sistemática de estudios empíricos orientados a indagar prácticas de lectura y escritura en asignaturas escolares de Ciencias Sociales en América Latina en el periodo 2014-2023. Siguiendo los lineamientos de la declaración PRISMA, se realizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos Web of Science, Scopus ERIC, SciELO y La Referencia. Se identificaron 17 estudios que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión. Los resultados se organizan en tres agrupaciones según el tipo de estudio y análisis propuesto. La multiplicidad de marcos teóricos y abordajes metodológicos da cuenta del interés interdisciplinar en la investigación educativa sobre alfabetización. Mayoritariamente, los estudios se desarrollan en la educación secundaria y lo más usual es que la asignatura estudiada sea Historia, por lo que resulta necesario continuar indagando aspectos vinculados a la alfabetización desde otras asignaturas de Ciencias Sociales.This paper presents a systematic review of empirical studies aimed at investigating reading and writing practices in Social Science school subjects in Latin America during the period 2014-2023. Following the PRISMA guidelines, a search was conducted in the Web of Science, Scopus, ERIC, SciELO, and La Referencia databases. 17 studies that met the inclusion criteria were identified. The results are organized into three groups based on the type of study and analytical approach. The multiplicity of theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches demonstrates the interdisciplinary interest in educational research on literacy. Most of the studies were conducted in secondary schools, and the most commonly studied subject was History, suggesting the need to further investigate literacy aspects in other social science subjects.Fil: Tonani, Juliana.     k-Domination ivariants on Kneser graphs

    In this follow-up to work of M.G. Cornet and P. Torres from 2023, where the k-tuple domination number and the 2-packing number in Kneser graphs K(n, r) were studied, we are concerned with two variations, the k-domination number, γk(K(n, r)), and the k-tuple total domination number, γt × k(K(n, r)), of K(n, r). For both invariants we prove monotonicity results by showing that γk(K(n, r)) ≥ γk(K(n + 1, r)) holds for any n ≥ 2(k + r), and γt × k(K(n, r)) ≥ γt × k(K(n + 1, r)) holds for any n ≥ 2r + 1. We prove that γk(K(n, r)) = γt × k(K(n, r)) = k + r when n ≥ r(k + r), and that in this case every γ_(k)-set and γ_(t × k)-set is a clique, while γk(r(k + r) − 1, r) = γt × k(r(k + r) − 1, r) = k + r + 1, for any k ≥ 2. Concerning the 2-packing number, ρ₂(K(n, r)), of K(n, r), we prove the exact values of ρ₂(K(3r − 3, r)) when r ≥ 10, and give sufficient conditions for ρ₂(K(n, r)) to be equal to some small values by imposing bounds on r with respect to n.     Biomass production in whey permeate and spray drying of a potential probiotic strain from human breast milk, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis INL1

    Whey permeate (WP), a by-product of cheese whey treatment, constitutes a sustainable and economical alternative to synthetic media for probiotic biomass production. Likewise, spray drying (SD) is a rapid and cost-effective alternative to freeze drying in industrial practice. This study aimed to optimise the production of a spray-dried culture (SDC) of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis INL1. Biomass production on WP was optimised by analyzing the effects of yeast extract and pH on bacterial growth, survival during spray drying, and resistance to simulated gastric digestion. Additionally, pH, inlet temperature, and drying matrix effects were evaluated for their impact on strain resistance during SD and storage. WP proved to be a suitable ingredient for B. lactis INL1 biomass production. Acidic culture conditions yielded superior results, and all tested factors significantly influenced SDC performance. These findings highlight the usefulness of optimization strategies to define effective production conditions for probiotic cultures.Fil: Zacarías, María Florencia.     Decolonizing Natural Sciences, Environmental and Health Education: Reflections from a Continuous Teacher Training Experience

    In this chapter we share a journey through theoretical perspectives, actions, experiences and reflections that have outlined our collective pathways with the intention of decolonizing a field we call Natural Sciences, Environmental and Health Education. In dialogue with a Continuous Teacher Training experience for the primary level, held virtually in 2021 for our entire country (Argentina), we will seek to deepen our collective reflections in order to enrich our pedagogical perspectives. In the course, we proposed a critical and comprehensive analysis of regional eco-territorial and socio-sanitary crises and conflicts, in order to understand close and complex realities, which, in turn, are regarded as a part of the planetary crisis. We sought to put into play the socio-cultural diversity of the territories in order to generate a dialogue of knowledges, feelings and ways of living in which scientific, popular, indigenous knowledge, among others, were to be exchanged.     Evaluación de la calidad del agua para irrigación en ríos y arroyos de la Patagonia Austral Continental

    En este trabajo se analizó y clasificó la aptitud de fuentes de agua para riego en tres regiones hidrográficas de la Patagonia Austral (Argentina): Coyle, Serrano y Gallegos. Estas regiones carecen de antecedentes sobre la aptitud de sus aguas para la irrigación. A fin de proporcionar esta información, se analizaron en laboratorio muestras de aguas superficiales de 74 locaciones en 42 cursos de la provincia de Santa Cruz en Argentina y de la región de Magallanes en Chile, durante las estaciones seca y húmeda del año, entre 2017 y 2019. Se evaluó la concentración de cationes y aniones de interés agrícola. Las aguas mostraron un rango de pH entre 6,1 y 9,5 con poca variabilidad estacional. Los cationes predominantes fueron Ca2+ y Mg2+ y menor en K+ , siendo HCO3- el principal anión. El SAR se encontró entre 0,58 ± 0,21 durante el invierno y 0,46 ± 0,15 en verano. Con excepción de algunas muestras, la mayoría de las aguas tienen valores de conductividad eléctrica inferiores a 250 µS/cm y pueden catalogarse como aguas de baja salinidad. No se detectaron peligros significativos para la producción de cultivos, hortalizas y pastos en términos de los indicadores combinados de salinidad y sodicidad. Sin embargo, existe un potencial impacto negativo en la estabilidad estructural del suelo debido principalmente a la concentración de Na+ que debe tenerse en cuenta para la implementación de proyectos de riego.This work aimed to analyze and classify the suitability of freshwater sources for irrigation in three large hydrographic regions of Southern Continental Patagonia: Coyle, Serrano, and Gallegos. In these regions, there is a lack of information on the irrigation suitability of surface waters. For this, 74 surface water locations were sampled from 42 watercourses in Santa Cruz province and Magallanes region in Argentina and Chile, during dry and wet seasons between 2017 and 2019. The concentration of ions of agricultural interest was evaluated in the laboratory. The pH ranged between 6.1-9.5 with little seasonal variability. The prevailing ions were Ca2+ Mg2+ and HCO3-, while the lower cation concentration was K+. The Sodium Adsorption Ratio was 0.58 ± 0.21 during winter and 0.46 ± 0.15 in summer. Most waters in the region have electrical conductivity values below 250 µS/cm and may be categorized as low-salinity waters. We determined no significant hazards for crops, vegetables, and pasture production in terms of the combined salinity and sodicity indicators. However, a potential negative impact on soil structural stability mainly due to Na+ concentration must be considered for the implementation of suitable irrigation projects.Fil: Diaz, Boris Gastón.     A new species of Leucophora Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (Diptera: Anthomyiidae) with long proboscis from South America

    A new species of Leucophora (Robineau-Desvoidy) is described from Argentina, Leucophora longilingua Ramírez-Mora and Patitucci sp. n. This new species is characterised by a very long proboscis and a plumose arista. Male and female specimens are described, with detailed illustrations, photographs, and scanning electron microscopy images. The ultrastructure of the mouthparts is described for the first time for the genus.
