Robot-mediated Exercise Promotion Program for Elderly People

    No full text
In areas where it snows a lot in winter, the elderly people cannot go out for exercise, so that they have a loss of motor ability and high risk of falling. The falling is one of the causes of bedridden state. In order to solve this issue, we develop a system which can facilitate indoor exercises for the elderly people. In this system, we use compact-size robots and pedaling electrical generator for the exercise motivation. In this research, we have performed a verification test in a care facility in order to determine whether this exercise system is practical or not

Trial Creating of the Environmental Input-Output Table and the Analysis -Estimation of CO2 Emissions and Emission Structures in the Liaoning Province, China-

    No full text
This article aims to estimate environmental load in the Liaoning Province, China using Input-Output analysis. Now it is required to measure CO2emissions in China, and it is also necessary to measure CO2emissions at the provinces stage. Specifically, we estimate Liaoning’s CO2emissions as a traditional heavy industry base. Results are as follows: In the Liaoning Province, the total CO2emissions are 813.8 million tons. And the industries with many CO2emissions are electric power industry and supplying heat industry. Heavy Industry such as iron, coal, metal products accounts for more than 80% of the province total emissions. From the viewpoint of sustainable environmental policy, it is important to change the energy input structure and improve efficiency of the input energy for coal industry and so on. About electrical products and construction, we think that importing of the materials should be increased

Effects in Programming Education with Actual Robots Control Using Scratch

    No full text
Recently, the ICT(Information and Communication Technology) engineers’ workforce shortage has been occurred with the development of ICT progress. And in the new educational guideline of Japan, the learning contents about ICT have been extended. Along with this, effective teaching materials for learning programming are demanded. In this study, we constructed a programming learning environment which can control the actual robots using Scratch developed at MIT. And we verified the effects of the experience learning using the environment by the analysis of the questionnaire results. And by the results, it was confirmed that this environment is possible to improve the learning effect for any students regardless whether who likes originally computer operation or not

Examination of the Factors of a Sense of Shame in Bodily Expression Activity

    No full text
Many people are ashamed of bodily expression activity. This study aimed to examine the items that effectively contributed as factors to a sense of shame in bodily expression activity. Eleven items were classified, and 212 healthy students [mean age, 21.0 years; standard deviation (SD), 4.9 years; male, N= 101; female, N= 111]responded to these items through “Yes” or “No.” In addition, when there was a newly effective item, a free description of the item was demanded. Consequently, the effectiveness of the selected items, the changing expression of the items, and the need to examine new items were observed

Effects in “Introduction to Psychology” ClassⅡ: Could Students Maintain Metacognitive Skills?

    No full text
This study examined the effect of implementation to enhance and maintain metacognitive skills for students who had taken “Introduction to Psychology” class for freshmen. In the follow-up study had about one year after the class had finished, the results of the implementing group demonstrated significantly higher level of stress management self-efficacy scales than the control group. Also, the metacognitive skills scales of the implementing group indicated marginally significant results higher at follow-up test than at pre-test. From the results, it suggested that it is necessary to design and implement the teaching materials and method for enhancing students’ metacognitive skills and efforts to maintain the effects of the implementation

    Bilingualism’s Influence on Cognitive Ability

    No full text
The present research into bilingualism focuses on the aspect of executive control (EC) and how it can relate to cognitive ability. Specifically, bilingual individuals face EC challenges such as mental-set shifting tasks, conflicting-response suppression, and information or task monitoring processes continually while producing or interpreting language. Current research seems to indicate that this constant stimulus gives bilingual individuals a slight advantage in EC processes compared to their monolinguals peers; developing earlier and performing at a higher rate as the subject advance in later life

Formularization of Angular Distortion Induced by Multiple Heat Sources on the Same Surface

    No full text
A preceding heat welding is proposed for reducing weld distortion. In this welding process, MAG welding is followed by a preceding heating with TIG on the same surface side of welding. The influence of a distance between heat sources of TIG and MAG on the angular distortion is investigated by numerical simulation for a bead-on-plate welding performed using simulation software (SYSWELD). From the calculated results, it is found that the angular distortion is reduced and has a minimum value in the case where the distance between heat sources is shorter than a certain one according to a welding condition. The reduction in angular distortion is Discussed in accordance with the heat input parameter and the distribution of mechanical melting temperature region in the plate thickness section. In addition, the angular distortion induced by preceding heat welding can be formalized by using the maximum depth of mechanical melting temperature region in the plate thickness section as an explanatory variable
