Creation of an Automatic music composer employing Markov chains
I introduce automatic music composition software using Markov chain. The automatic music
composition generates melody, chord and rhythm known as three elements of the music. In the
software, the melody is decided by 3-gram analysis and double Markov chain , and the chord is decided in original algorithm. This algorithm is called the downbeat-dependence method in this paper.As a result, I succeeded in creating a music composition that has characteristics very similar to the original. Furthermore, the type of chord in automatically-formed musical composition has been found to be greater than the number of the original music
The properties of heavy metal reduction by sulfate-reducing bacteria,Citrobacter murliniae SbR-43
Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), such as Desulfovibrio , produce hydrogen sulfi de by reducing sulfate in an anaerobic environment. Citrobacter murliniae SbR-43 , isolated from the surface soil in Fukui Prefecture as an antimony-resistant bacteria, also has sulfate-reduction ability. In this study,a variety of heavy metals—Fe3+, Co2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Cd2+—containing cultivation medium were
precipitated as sulfi de compounds with the growth of Citrobacter murliniae SbR-43 . The evolution of the amount of H2S gas produced by Citrobacter murliniae SbR-43 is very high, and heavy metals such as Fe3+, Zn2+, and Cd2+ precipitated more than did E. coli . Resting cells of Citrobacter murliniae SbR-43 were coated with gold when incubated in an AuCl4- aqueous solution, and the morphological
observation of bacteria cells by SEM was easily possible without tedious conventional pretreatment,such as osmium staining

A Study for Practical Use of Aerial Handwritten Character Recognition
This paper describes a method to recognize a character handwritten in the air. This recognition method uses the motion direction instead of positions of the device mounted on the hand. It also doesn't use the information of pen-up and pen-down. It selects and orders character candidates with DP (dynamic programming) matching. We prototyped a handwritten character recognition system that detect single character period by hovering in the air instead of adding some behavior for example, hand-open and hand-close. But this system is not enough to put it to practical use because it does not have easy functions to use. We intend to improve usability and work toward practical use of aerial handwritten character recognition by additional input method functions
Green Emotion
At the 5th Kobe Biennale, Kondo and Kasai applied for the Green Art Competition prize and won honorable mention with their interactive art work entitled “Green Emotion” projecting an interactive images on living green wall. The living green wall of plants being raised indoors for the first time, made use of an automatic water supply device and reached the height of 8meters. Images were programmed to react to the movement of the elevator and were projected into the green wall. By winning with “Green Emotion”, the green wall was recognized as having the potential of being an art work with expectations for its future development
