Some Remarks on the Teaching of English through Movies and Songs
Many previous studies show that the use of movies and songs in the English class is the effective way to motivate English-learning students. It is, however, uncertain whether the teaching method contributes to improving the English language abilities of the students. We discuss how to use movies and songs in the classroom for the purpose of enhancing their English language abilities on the basis of the questionnaire results showing the impact of the above method on the students. In addition, we describe an outline of an intramural competition called "Singable" Lyrics Translation Contest, which was launched last year to promote students' motivation and creativity, and propose improvement plans to continue to hold the competition and expand it in the future
