Theory about "ghost in Lexington" -Reading as an entrance to Haruki Murakami work-

    No full text
This thesis tried reading and comprehension. For the purpose of perusing in the classroom about a short story of Haruki Murakami who appears on a textbook for Japanese departments "careful selection B of contemporary writings"(Sanseido 2014)"ghost in Lexington". A textbook and a handbook are often introduced Haruki Murakami's work.As "The form of the people who live in the complicated modern society is being drawn." "Love of a people of today and a solitary are being drawn." Is that true? And if it's true, how are the "the form of the people" and "loneliness" drawn? I make this point a clue first. First I pointed out the state into which Kasey who is a homosexual is falling lonesomely. Kasey thinks of "me" between the similar persons, and asks for caretaking in a home to take closer part. But "I" don't speak to him about the ghost who saw there. Kasey who refused to become a relation close to "me" is losing Jeremy who was the former partner, too.Certainly, "Loneliness" is an important theme of this novel. At the same time, I felt challenge to American society that is based on the male from this novel. The United States keeps taking various national products of civilization in, but doesn't make a foreigner understand the deep inside. The refusal of "me" is identical with challenge to the United States. And the challenge to the United States would also concern a still eye to modern society deeply. "Ghost in Lexington" is talking that the modern society which often loses sight of something important during flooding "thing", through a story of Kasey, "me" who live. "Love of a man of today and solitary" and "the form of the people who live in the modern society". "Ghost in Lexington" is drawing both. So I think that "ghost in Lexington" is a good teaching material to understand Haruki Murakami's literature right

    No full text
This paper reports how English classes were conducted in an intensive ESL training course in the English Language Institute (ELI) at Queens College (QC) in the USA. By attending a six-week ESL course in person, the author was able to look at English teaching from a learner's point of view and obtain various findings and implications to make "Teaching English in English" more meaningful in an EFL context such as in Japan. Based on this experience, the author considers how to improve the present conditions in which English is taught at KOSEN, and makes some suggestions to have the students learn to use English in a larger scale, including homework, extracurricular activities as well as overseas study and internship programs

“AL (=Active learning)” is widely acknowledged as a main feld of education nowadays. “MEXT (=Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)” has been strongly recommending AL as a new and persuasive way of educational method. Roughly speaking, it indicates the importance of interactive way of teaching between teachers and students. However, the notion of AL has not yet been fully defined mainly because it is comparatively a new way of teaching. In this paper, I would like to try to define AL concretely by taking “Interactive Teaching Seminar” at Tokyo University. Moreover, I also try to show a model for AL suitable for NIT through the Teaching of Englis
