No full textPreimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a technique used for genetic testing of in-vitro-fertilized embryos to determine whether they are normal or not. This technique is spreading gradually to various countries. However, it is often criticized for its concept of “choice of life.” In Switzerland, the Reproductive Medicine Act, which came into force on January 1, 2001, clearly prohibited PGD. The situation began changing in 2005, when the Swiss Parliament passed a motion to remove the ban on PGD. Finally, on December 12, 2014, the parliament approved amendments to the Reproductive Medicine Act and Article 119 of the Federal Constitution, regarding reproductive medicine and gene technology involving human beings. According to the revised Reproductive Medicine Act, PGD is permissible under appropriate conditions. Effects of different types of ropes on jump cycle while skipping
No full textThis study aimed to determine the effects of different types of jump ropes on jump cycles while skipping. Thirteen youth volunteers performed the basic jump and the alternate-foot jump using two ropes differing in diameter and weight. Two-way ANOVA revealed that the main effects of skipping patterns and type of rope were significant in cycle time, contact time, and takeoff time, respectively (P < 0.05 for all variables). In the coefficient of variations (CVs) for each measured variable, the main effect was significant in skipping patterns (P < 0.05 for all variables) but not in the type of rope (P > 0.05 for all variables). However, a clear difference was found between the two ropes for
correlation coefficient of CV in cycle times between skipping patterns. These results suggested that different types of ropes affect jump cycles while skipping

No full textIn this paper we examine how the 1840 Vaccination Extension Act was passed in the Parliament and implemented by the Poor Law Commissioners and Boards of Guardians, ainly through the analysis of the Commissioners' Annual Reports . In our examination it will be clarifi ed that the promotion of vaccination under 1840 Act was steadily progressed, in spite of many impediments to it, such as the people's hate against Poor Law authorities and the absence of ompulsion under the act.
We conclude that the vaccination, which went side by side Poor Law medical relief, was the first step to the national reventive medicine
Validation of Extraction Methods of Marine Debris in the Ocean Using Satellite Remote Sensing
No full textMulti-home environment, where a terminal is connected to a number of networks through multiple interfaces, is prevailing. For such a situation, IETF has standardized Multipath TCP (MPTCP), which has been introduced into commercially available operating systems. While conventional TCP can utilize only a single path, MPTCP can utilize multiple paths simultaneously and improve throughput as well as reliability. Since MPTCP segments application data into a number of blocks and distributes them over multiple paths, the receiving side of MPTCP has to perform resequencing function which reassembles received blocks to recover original data. This resequencing requires a large number of buffers to attain high throughput. This paper investigates the performance of MPTCP from the view point of the resequencing function and associated volume of buffers by using network simulator ns-2
