    Evaluation method of interface state of insulating materials

    In a composite of PMMA (polymethyl-methacrylate) and PS (polystyrene), electrons transported from the PMMA layer can pass through the interface more easily than holes from the PMMA layer. Holes from the PS layer can pass through the interface more easily than electrons from the PS layer. As exemplified electrons from the PS layer. As exemplified above, the charge-exchange rate at the interface in insulating composites is affected by the direction of the carrier transport. Such asymmetric characteristics are widely seen in insulating composites e.g. PE-EVA and epoxy alumina and seem very important to understand the insulation performance of composites1. 2) . In order to clarify the asymmetric properties on the basis of electronic levels, it is necessary to establish the methods for estimating electronic levels in polymers. In this paper, electronic levels in insulating polymers were estimated by contact potential difference, XPS, UPS in air and photoinjection current and the correlation among the estimated levels was investigated

    This study reports a new experiment, “Experiments on Antenna Design and Electromagnetic Wave Propagation.” Electromagnetism is an academic field that clarifies various phenomena associated with electrical charges, electric fields, and electromagnetic waves. These phenomena are invisible, which makes it difficult for students to learn this field of study only in a didactic manner. Based on such background, the new experiment has been set up. This study reports details of the proposed experiment, followed by the results of a survey conducted to figure out students' understanding of the experiment

    Kinetics of Emulsion Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate Using Poly(Methyl Methacrylate-co-Methacrylic Acid)as Polymeric Emulsifier

    Emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate was carried out at 50°C using poly(methyl methacrylate-co-methacrylic acid) as emulsifier and potassium persulfate as initiator. It was found that the number of polymer particles formed is proportional to the 0.43 power of the initial emulsifier concentration, proportional to the 0.57 power of the initial initiator  concentration, and independent of the initial monomer concentration, respectively. The rate of polymerization was proportional to the 0.27 power of the initial emulsifier concentration, proportional to the 0.47 power of the initial initiator concentration, and independent of the initial monomer concentration,respectively. These relationships are very different from those observed in MMA emulsion polymerization using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) emulsifier

    The Transition of the Political Leadership of the Japanese Navy in the 1930s: Fushiminomiya Hiroyasu and Yonai Mitsumasa

    It is evident that the political leadership of the Japanese Navy moved from the Naval General Staff composed of the 'Fleet Faction' to the Naval Ministry led by Yonai Mitsumasa in the 1930s, but the process of this transition and the factors behind it are not clear. This article takes up these issues, focusing on the differences between the Chief of the Naval General Staff, Fushiminomiya Hiroyasu, and the leader of the 'Fleet Faction', Kato Hiroharu. In the Imperial Navy of the early 1930s, the Naval General Staff led by Kato Hiroharu pursued the goals of strengthening the independence of the Supreme Command and unifying the Navy. Fushiminomiya was put forward as the chief of the Naval General Staff by the head of the 'Fleet Faction' in order to unify the Navy, and his infl uence in this position was extremely strong. Although Fushiminomiya sympathized with policies of the 'Fleet Faction', he had a different opinion concerning staff ransfers. As the same time, the 'Fleet Faction' was criticized in the Navy for politically utilizing the imperial family and politicizing the Naval General Staff. As a result, the 'Fleet Faction' lost its unifying position in the Navy. Fushiminomiya nominated Yonai Mitsumasa as the Navy Minister of the Hayashi Senjyuro cabinet, and later persuaded Yonai to continue in the post under the Konoe Fumimaro cabinet. These events demonstrate that Fushiminomiya's personality and attitude were the main factors behind the transition of the political leadership of the Navy in the 1930s
